2015-2016 New Board Porn (new purchases)

I know we are still months away, but I just received my newest edition to my quiver and have to say thanks to Nils and Bryan for helping to sway me towards a SwellPanik as Kafi makes an incredibly beautiful board and I cannot wait to ride it.

The new one is the 193cm Metabaron on the left  in the photo.

It is my shortest board, but it looks and flexes like it is going to be a go to for me in multiple conditions.

The wood veneer topsheet is amazing and the pictures do not do it justice.

Hope the farmers almanac is correct and that we all get a good winter and lots of snow this year.

cheers,

sandy

Couldn't help myself and bought WAY above my level.  I still have the old, glass, Rossi if I fail completely on this baby.  Titanal and ready to carve. (and if I knew how to that would make two of us)  I ordered it on a Tues night and it arrived FedEx, here in Idaho, from Spain, that Friday.  That's faster than if I had ordered one from Salt Lake City!  I figure I have room to grow and will perhaps grow into this one um...say....10 years from now :)   These Burton Race Plates are a bit fat for this deck but I'll make it work somehow.

Two of my boys and I had planned a summer riding trip to Mt Hood and wouldn't you know it turns out to be a year without snow. :(  Headed to Oregon anyway and we did swing by and were even contemplating trying to hike up to snow just to say we had done it, but it was not to be.  Alas we had to settle for surfing on the coast, but just riding that lift up on the Mountain got us ready for snow!!  Can't wait!!  I get this board out about once per week and just smile at it.  I told Mrs Duke that we are going to include it in the next family picture :)

I took my kids to their first orthodontic consult. For the uninitiated, when the orthodontist conducts the initial exam and spews out a bunch of numbers to his assistant that sound like intra-mouthial measurements? Those are actually multipliers to your billing statement. So "cross-bite = 9" means a no fresh vegetables for the next two months. Or another trip to the high roller room at The Bellagio for him. And so on.

Come on snow!

Nice Duke, hope that board works out better for you this year!  I've got a Coiler Nirvana on order that I'll be picking up when I go to Michigan in October, then taking it back to Norway.  Looks like we'll both have two well traveled boards before they even touch the snow.

Well you can't go wrong with a Coiler.  I don't think there is a dissatisfied customer in the history of the company!  I am definitely taking a risk with a startup company, OES,  but am feeling good about it.  I wish I had the skill to give it a good, qualified review.  I'll still post the results though.  I talked to Bigdogdave this weekend and I'll make sure he gives it a real try so he/I can post a real review at some point.  I made the purchase this summer so as to better the chances that I can still have Santa bring me a Dupraz without having Mrs Duke go high and to the right because of the Carve board purchase being still fresh in her memory. :)  Less sting when separated by 1/2 year I hope!

Sandy,

Glad I could help :)

Gosh that Metabaron is awsome...I know many ride them SPanik in hardboots, so no worries if that's what you do ( i do ride mine in HB/TD2).

What does not do justice is the side view of the board that is missing..the nose of kafi's boards are just so thin you will think they will break, but the flex is so well balanced it just bumps and bumps acting like shock absorber while the rest of the board stays stable.. It likes to be ridden on the front foot too ( no more flexed back leg in powder!)

I recommend not doing to much tuning on the base of the board: I just do the edges and wax it, but i rarely grind them ( in order to insure they last longer...one is 1999 and the other in 2002 and they are almost like new.)..will post pics as i get it ( will likely fetch it and test ride it with Seb if I can)

Can't wait to receive my Phénix 4 parts split...just got the news the custom pucks are under work :)

Thanks for the advise Nils, will try to take good care of the Metabaron as Kafi mentioned that the mold was damaged and he is not going to make anymore for now. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Phenix...heard that the guy behind their boards used to work with Boheme...

cheers,

As usual Sandy , you have assembled one of the most eclectic and mind boggling powder board quivers in the universe.  Each board alone is a standout and difficult to acquire.   SMOKIN!!!

Bryan

Thanks Bryan, hope that I get a chance to bring them your way so that we can get some turns in this year.

cheers,

sandy

How did my dream quiver end up in your house?

Sadly, I have had to trim it down quite a bit over the last 5 years....collection is now only my favorite 7 boards. I have two of the blue/white surf board graphic tankers and they are both prototypes with camber/rocker combinations as well as another older cambered tanker.

cheers and pray for snow,

sandy

That's a super-pretty swallowtail, Sandy!

Thanks Neil, I am almost afraid to ride it (almost) because it is such a piece of art. Looking forward to seeing how it performs. Still have my fingers crossed for the next-gen tanker, but not sure when that is going to happen.

cheers,

sandy
