shawndoggy
Avalanche / Sanders? Pics like these in the back of Thrasher and Transworld Skateboarding blew my mind in the 80s.

queequeg
Definitely Damian on a 175 avalanche kick with kolfach superpipes I think.Check out that setback, one of the reasons I didn't like the Kicks in '88. Are you sure? The kick had a somewhat rounder tail and those look more like flexons than koflachs to me. http://www.flickr.com/photos/longb/4303259446/
xy9ine
i've got a snowboarder magazine from 1988 that's loaded w/ classic hardboot pics. damien on the cover + half a dozen full pages w/ a variety of riders. about 20 hb pics in total. surprising in retrospect. i should do some scanning, there's gold in this thing... heaps of fluorescent of course. sweet safari action:
b0ardski
your right QQ, on a closer look I appear to be full of sch... The bolle ad looks like Chris Karol, he wore those different Kastingers in "Don't Pat the Dog" instruction video.
WavesWithin
I was an Avalanche dealer and rode a 165 Kick. I really disliked that board. The edges of the base were beveled, so it sucked on the steep, icy slopes of Mt Ashland. A buddy of mine had the same board, but he rode Koflachs. I remember hearing stories of guys cutting the shells to gain more flexibility.
Titan
I don't have any heroes, but what Damian did in hardboots was nothing less than amazing....back in the day when nobody cared what you rode,as long as you rode. Run what you brung.....good times;) A friend still has his Avalanche 165 Kick....I don't think it has any sidecut whatsoever.
queequeg
I loved my Avalanche Kick 165 Damian - but probably only because it was the first board I ever owned (prior to that I survived by borrowing other people's rides). I ripped the (crappy wintersurf) bindings out of it more times than I can count ... thing looked like swiss cheeze by the time I was done with it. It had a tiny, tiny, tiny amount of sidecut if I remember correctly, and a huge amount of setback. It was eventually turned into a sit 'n sled at my boarding school, where it remains to this day in the sports closet. Damian was definitely a hero. scrapster
Did someone say Kastingers?! My first hardboots. I remember lacing these up in the early nineties and having a lady skier shout at me from the next table in the lodge, "Those aren't safe!!!" --thinking they were old-style ski boots. In retrospect, she was probably right. Thanks for the blast from the past everyone.

snowboardfast
Thanks for the photos. I used to ride a Burton Safari with those same kind of boots- the Alpina cool kats. also had a Avalanche kick. I got to meet Damian Sanders at Loveland at a demo day. He had switched to Clicker boots and bindings. I remember the pink Koflach boots as I used to ride a pair of those also. I wish I still had the magazine articles about Damian and the avalanche crew. Fun to be a part of this sport for so long.
Corey
http://www.vbs.tv/en-ca/watch/powder-and-rails/damian-sanders-1-of-2a 2 video serie on Damian Sanders... pretty entertaining to watch My wife and daughter don't like you now. ;) :p I watched most of the 'Powder & Rails' series on this site last night. VERY interesting stuff, this era was when I was really getting into the snowboard scene. I think I wore out my VHS copy of Snowboarders In Exile. philw
Did someone say Kastingers?! My first hardboots. Actually those look a lot like soft boots to me, with the laces and all. I don't remember those, mostly I remember Koflaches. I had their pure climbing boots, which were excellent.
