Strategicly i prefer more icier/boiler plate condition over soft groom becouse they will last whole day and scare a lot of people from steeps. I dont like too soft groom (powder day before) becouse my board goes too deep (lost of speed) and it tends to become mogules after 10 am.

here is my list for carving:

Hard groom

chalk

ice/boiler plate

soft groom

slush

Her is my list for freeride

Powder

It is difficult to compare powder to groom it is diffrent state of mind, apples to oranges dillema

I like to do bouth but on different set up, generally i try to have max fun in all condition so i dont waste time (life is short) I like varaiety like morning carve and forest freeride afternoon

As far i dont enjoy is Moguls (i am trying tho)

1. Powder

2. groom (perfect or not)

3. bulletproof ice (boilerplate)

4. slush

5. death

While I love carving in an hardboot setup, I almost certainly wouldn't own such a setup if I could ride good powder everytime (or even most of the time) I went riding.

Yes, well....

I tried to carve on my first man-made in Utah this winter. Never seen it before and I couldn't carve on it. Downright dangerous for me. It actually made me completely rethink my technique because I was so frustrated. So I am now a better rider, but still may not be able to carve on man-made. :ices_ange

Ever heard that saying? It means no waiting around, every man for himself, get to the frickin' freshies as fast as possible. If you get left behind, that's your own damn problem! :D

When I wake up and it's bluebird, about 10-20 degrees F, perfect firm groom, I feel the same way. You do not want to get in my way on a day like that. :AR15firin

are you saying you would wait for people if it was bluebird, 10-20deg, and 3 feet of dusty goodness?
