  1. Ya, this post is late, but we're having a get together in Utah Feb. 1-5 In Park City. For those of you planning on it, and flying in, you can get a free ticket the day of your arrival: (Thanks Skate for all of this info.) You can get a free day at either The Canyons, Park City, or Deer Valley (which does not allow snowboarding) for the first day of your holliday to Utah. There are blackout dates, from February 17, 2006 to March 26, so be warned. What you need to do: 1). Go to the following web site and submit your info to get a voucher. http://www.parkcityinfo.com/skiing/quickstart/ 2). Make sure you fly into SLC early in the morning. 3). Take the voucher, your out-of-state ID, and VERY IMPORTANT - your boarding pass for you flight, to the ticket window. 4). They will give you a lift pass and you are on your way. But be warned, this is not good for red-eye flights that leave the night before and get into SLC real early, like Jet-Blue from NYC... 2. My wife says I have / and or have had too many snowboards. (You can never have too many snowboards.) Seeing others' lists, I'm gonna have to let her know that I'm WAY behind.... Here's my list: Burton Performer 140 Burton Performer 'Elite" 150 Burton "Mystery" air (The year before Craig was allowed to put his signature on them) Burton M6* Hooger Tuned 168* Hauser Freeride 163 Rossi Levitation 166* Rossi WCR 190* Liquid Race 169* Rad-Air LSD Reto Lamm* Rad-Air Tanker 192* * = still in my possession, though not necessarily on "active duty" as Neil put it.
  3. Yeah Andy, I was pissed too! I showed up bright and early, and no Prior. After riding for a couple of hours, I checked the Prior website, and they had changed the demo schedule - They did the 20th and the 21st at Snowbird. Oh Well. Bomber should have some Prior demos at the WTC, we'll just have to wait until then.....
  4. Since we're talking about EC and Swoards, I'll chime in, but change the topic a little. Who's seen / ridden the new Swoards being made in the Virus factory? Any difference in ride characteristics, etc? Nils, Please chime in if you would like, even though you said you wouldn't. Anyone else?
  5. Did you want to see the whole article, or just the sequence that astrokel mentioned?
  6. Here's all the info I have: Prior Demo Schedule I emailed them to find out if they had alpine boards in the demo stock, and as mentioned above, they do........ BTW, after checking the website, and seeing that Fri. the 20th is now at The Canyons, I'm definitely going to try and make it up for a couple of hours in the morning on the 20th. If anyone else is gonna go on the 20th, let me know. I can probably swing some deals on lift tickets if there is a need....... ;)
  7. Anyone planning on going to any of the Prior demos in Utah? Jan 20 Snowbasin Utah, USA - Changed to The Canyons Jan 21 Snowbird Utah, USA Jan 22-23 Brighton Utah, USA I've contacted them, and the do have alpine boards in the demo fleet. Only one pair of binders, so bringing your own is probably a good Idea.... Edit - Just checked the Prior website, and Jan 20th has been changed to The Canyons....
  8. That's good. There is a guy in Utah who has mounted up two Factory Primes as powder skis.... I just look at him and think "Don't you want to sink just a LITTLE when you're skiing powder?" If there's three feet of fresh, personally, I want to sink into it a little and enjoy it, not float on the top three inches of it. Another guy I know also mounted up a couple of alpine boards as skis for a pond skimming contest. Unfortunately, he crashed before he made it to the pond. :(
  9. Currently set for Sunday April 16th. The Canyons ususally tries to mirror the closing dates for Park City. Barring some sort of weather catastrophe both resorts should still be open the 8th and the 9th. Spring conditions in full effect. And as Phil mentioned, Snowbird is usually open into June, and is worth the trip from PC.....
  10. Mark, Thanks for remining me about those Prior Demo days! I totally forgot. I've got to try and make it to one of those. I'll definitely be at the WTC. If you every want to come down and check out The Canyons, let me know. I should be able to swing you a deal on lift tickets. Talk to ya.....
  11. Mark, I just checked out my Tanker today, and can't see any "Binding Suck" on mine, but then again, I only mounted it a week ago, so maye it has something to do with length of time that the binders are mounted. My Rad-Air LSD does have some binding suck though. As I recall, most of my boards have binding suck of some sort, so I'm not too worried.... I finally got to take a few runs on my (new to me) Tanker this morining.... Dang those boards are fun. It was great to spend a couple of hours riding a few different boards, and the shortest one was a 190...
  12.       That's the best quote I've heard in a LONG time.....
  13. Not a problem at all Mike... I was busy poking around trying to find a photo of them, but you've explained them plenty well enough I believe.....
  14. Fin, Did you ever think about using "insert extensions" like the ones used for the Palmer Power Link risers, allowing you to use the current 5mm head hex screws with the suspension kits?
  15. Yes - I work at The Canyons. (Part Time....) I have a "Real" job so I can afford that one (Unfortunately...)
  16. I'm not exactly sure what the policy is at Park City, but a 1-hr private at The Canyons is only for walk-in's, and they will only book a hardboot lesson in advance. When booking in advance, you cannot book a 1-hr, only half-day or full-day privates are booked in advance, so no guaranteed hardboot instruction when booking a 1-hr at The Canyons.
  17. Andy, The cost of the lessons is because you're a hardbooter! Not that being a hardbooter is bad, just that we're such a minority, to get hardboot-specific instruction, you have to book a private. You could purchase a group lesson, and show up with hardboots, but most of the instructors are going to freak out when they see you in "Ski Boots." If you can get ever get some time on hill with Billy Bordy, take him up on it. Keep in touch when you're gonna be at The Canyons too. If I'm ever not working, I'd be happy to take a few runs with you....
  18. Yep, you got me riled up! (But not in a negative way...) Just wanted to agree with you. You speek the truth. Thanks for your comments!
  19. Sorry to resurect this one, but one thought has been running through my head when I think about this. Nothing to do with definitions of Instructor / Coach / Pro, etc..... Just a comment. It has been my experience in this in the snowboard coaching and instructing business (And probably the whole snowsports business in general) that most of the people who do it, (teach / coach, etc.) do it for pure love of the sport, not for the money.... Whether you are a coach or an instructor, being given the opportunity to share something you are passionate about with others is pretty cool. Whether it's teaching someone to link their first turns on a board, or coaching someone to a podium spot, I personally think being a part of that is great.... My .02 Italian Lira....
  20. Just curious. Did the 2002 winter olympics and Klug / Bronze have anything with any of the north-americans here getting into hardboots? Sorry, this should have been in my other post...
  21. I, like Geof, was probably turned on to hardbooting by Peter Bauer and Jean Nerva. In the late 80's / early 90's. I also hated how bad my feet hurt in softies. My riding style just didn't lend its'self to soft boots, and I needed more support. Hardboots offered the ablity to tranfer more power to the edge. Plus, I wanted to "carve, carve carve," with "no slide." Contrary to your post RJ, during the Bauer / Nerva era, Carving boards and gear WERE more accessible. Mostly because Burton was pushing it at the time. On a demo day, you could usually get boards and boots from Rossi. Checker Pig's were usually easy to get at demo's too. Burton usually would have a few PJ's and "M's" to demo, at least with the three-strap bindings. Alpine boards were pretty readily available in shops in UT during the whole Asym period. I remember seeing Look, Aggression, F2, Burton and Rossi alpine boards in shops back then. In fact - I bought my first M6 on a close out from a Gart Brothers type store in Utah called Pedersens.

    New video

Not a great photo, but it will give you an idea of the shape of the board. On the left-hand side, on the rack of boards, the Dupraz is the one with the red top sheet. About five board in from the left, behind the "Hooger Booger." Dupraz Or... Here's a better one from the Dupraz Website...
  23. OK, I don't have any idea if you'll be able to run the Burting SI boots with the Flows. Best bet would probably be to go to a shop that carries Flow, and see how the interface works. My opinion on Flows: I've been running them for softies for the past three seasons and I love them. In my opinion they give you all of the benefits of both straps and step-ins, without the disadvantages of either. No pressure points from the straps, and next-to no issue with snow on the bottom of the boot that you get with most step-in systems. FWIW, I put my wife in Flows for her first season, and she still didn't like having to bend over to flip the highback up. (Which could be an issue with your wife as you mentioned.) I got her a pair of Device / Oxygen step-ins off of e-bay last year, and she seems happy with them so far (though she doesn't have many days in them.)
