  1. I've been wondering the same thing. The trucks on the Carveboard are definitely different than on the Carvestik, but I'm sure you could use skateboards wheels with sideset bearings, or if you used wheels with offset or centerset bearings, you'll have to make sure the cutout on the inside of the wheel is big enough to clear the outer parts of the truck. The other problem will probably be that there won't be enough clearance for the rails to clear the ground when doing deep carves with high angles of inclination. If I remember correctly, you can almost burry the rails carving hard with the rubber tires on. But if it will work, I'm thinking some 97mm flywheels would be fun on a carveboard though, it would definitely cut down some weight and make it easier to push, probably be quite fun on some mellower hills: I'll check and see if I can swap the "dakone" wheels off of the Carvestick with the Carveboard and let ya know....
  2. If you're looking at the Carveboard, don't forget to look at the stik.... Rides just like a carveboard, without the rubber tires. A little more veratile than the original though. The tierneys are cool, but a little less versatile as far as pushing / transprotation. The only thing I've ridden that comes close to mimicking the carve like the t-board or the Carveboard / Carvestik is a nuclear pickle, but the deck was a little too cheap, but it would do tight carves like the Carve products. If you watch Fee-bay closely, you can get new Carvestiks for under $200 shipped, I've seen t-boards go for less than $100 shipped, and you can get the Nuclear Pickles for under $100 shipped from retail outlets....
  3. Try this guy: Subsonic Scroll down on the homepage to "Drop Boards". I haven't ridden one yet, but I hear nothing but good things about them. Here's a couple of them that make me drool:
  4. Sorry Dave, I didn't even look at your link when he said he couldn't find it..... :o Please accept my most sincere apologives (sarcasm intended here also...)

One word: Politics...... Maybe it's time to start buying a pass and really enjoying the winter :)
  6. Copacabana (At the Copa) Good old Barry Manilow.... I work with a guy who has to play it at least once a day just to piss everyone around him off.....
  7. I also enjoy the comments about how "comfortable" soft boots are to "walk" in. Yup, that's why I wear my snowboard boots, to walk around the lodge..... I usually only wear my snowboard boots when I'm SNOWBOARDING. Who gives a rat's @ss how comfortable they are to walk in. I want to be comfortable when I'm RIDING.

Heh heh..... He bought boots and bindings last week. He'll look for a board over the summer, and borrow my old stuff if he needs to...... Another Carver is born!

I actually saw you a couple of weeks ago... I was indoctrinating a new hardbooter so I was on the "High Meadow Chutes" and you were heading over to saddleback. I yelled at you a couple of times, but I guess you didn't want to associate with a goon riding the beginner chair...... Don't know if I'll be working there next year, time will tell.....
  10. Anyone of you guys got any experience with the Nuclear Pickle trucks?

Get ahold of digger he rides @ Snowbird and would probably be happy to make some turns with ya.
  12. Here's what you need: Ski Utah Passes I know, I know, you're on a budget, but it would be cool to have a pass for EVERY resort in a state......
  13. They are available to those who are resourceful: Bryan's BTS
  14. If you're looking to get away from crowds, then SLC would probably be better than Tahoe. Weekdays at most Utah resorts are dead (except during holiday periods - Christmas, Pres. day, etc.), and some weekends can be that way too, you just gotta know where to go at the resorts to avoid the crowds. As far as avoiding powder frenzies, once again, you just have to know where to go. The only "real" way to avoid a powder frenzy at the neighboring SLC resorts is to stay up one of the cottonwood canyons (Snowbird, Alta, Solitude, Brighton) during a big storm, where the road doesn't get opened up until later in the day due to avalanche control, etc. Then the only people you have to share the pow with are those that stayed at the resorts. Everyone else has to wait until later in the day when the roads open up... But, once again, spend enough time with the locals, and you'll know where to go to avoid the crowds, and you'll be able to find powder stashes days after storms. Oh... And I can't think of anywhere I've ridden that I would call "perfect". Each mountain has it's advantages and disadvantages. Come to think of it, I like it that way though. Variety ain't a bad thing.

    #$&*!#*

Skatha, Where are you having all of these accidents at The Canyons? Must have been early morning? We usually don't get real "ice" out West (according to all the ice-coast folks....)
  16. Whatcha talkin' bout Kirk? Aren't "Swallowtails" supposed to ROCK in powder? :D
  17. Yup still got it... I sold the 3-straps a couple of years back, as I "Upgraded" to some variplate bindings, and some "alpina/aigner/ups" hardboots soon after purchasing the M.
  18. M6 (don't remember the year - blue and white top sheet). 3 - strap bindings, sorrels with ski-boot liners. Day-glow graffiti Quicksilver jacket / matching headband (I still wear that jacket- don't hurt yourself laughing.)
  19. Park City has wider runs, but both mountains have good carving terrain. The King Con lift is one of the favorites for Carvers at Park City. Get ahold of the guys at Hardbooter.com, they should be able to hook up some locals to show you around. What are the dates when you will be in PC? If you want more Info. on The Canyons, e-mail me offline and I can hook you up... Here's some photos to give you some ideas of what the runs are like: Less than Ideal conditions, but this gives you an idea of what a lot of the runs look like off of King Con: (Bob Dodds tearing up a couple inches of fluff at the WTC). Jeff and Kirsten playing tag off of King Con: Adam on the Payday run, off of the Payday lift: In contrast, here's Apex ridge, at The Canyons: And here's Mr. Scott Firestone, also on Apex Ridge: (Thanks for the Photos Scott!) The weather has been holding up great this spring.... If you're lucky you might get some of this: (mmmmmmmm........) Or maybe even some of this: I'm such a dweeb - posting all the photos Curt / Skully
  20. Buy one from Bomber or Hardbooter: Bomber Hardbooter Bomber has them (At least one) on sale, and I'm sure you could talk Harbooter in to the end-of-season discount. Both are rider-owned companies, so they'd get a cut........
  21. And Multiple Pics of a Tandem Here
  22. Man I envy that quiver of yours Kirk........... (Here's Kirk getting face-shots on his Burner 197)
  23. Billy, you need to give everyone the speech on the 2nd gen. Kesslers - everyone is asking about them...... The way I understand it, the nose is longer than other race boards, to help the board ride up, and out of ruts in a PGS course, and it also helps with damping. If you look closely, you can tell that the camber in the board starts quite a ways back from the start of the nose. Also, as Phil has mentioned, the inserts are set up much like other boards relative to the camber and sidecut of the Kessler. This is my best recollection of Billy's explanation of the nose profile on the Kesslers, of course I'm not Billy, so I'm sure I’m not completely correct.
