  1. fourth board from the left? counterfeit swing-bo
  2. Your actual mileage may vary. But to call them junk is uninformed. I've logged over 100 days on my 173 and at least 50 on my 162- no issues. And they don't get soft like a glass board can over time. Race plates are fine too thank you very much. Just cause some stainless boards delammed immediately after contact with water doesn't mean that there might not have been different runs. I've been told maybe I just got some "good ones"? As for ancient- my white walled Madd is older. My 162 Volant is a much better board than my 2 year old 163RT which I happen to like very much. I baby the Volant (less than 10 days a year now) because it is probably hard to replace. If you found a good one that hasn't blown up it is certainly worth the $150 that people pay for a shelf factory prime...
  3. and still nothing about shorter stones for SL. Are there stones that flex to the radius? Tognar sells "moonflex" diamonds. But they don't actually flex, do they?
  4. Your response may not be the best one. I tire of newbie ?'s as well but I think Benttech is asking an unusual question? At least I've never thought of polish stone length in terms of sidecut radius. But I don't get out much. I do polish daily and have read a bunch on theory. Before posting this I read Scott's tuning section (that you linked)- it doesn't address this issue. I'll read tognar and reliable racing when I have a chance. Do you have longer stones for longer boards? Cheers, Trench
  5. I'll gladly trade my 170GS tuesday for an original 180 today if that's of interest to anybody...
  6. on friday. our third little base dumpette. Check the cord pics on the Heave's marketing trumpet. Really heavenly white ribbon- I'd say way ahead of normal. It's been very cold so there's already 18"-24" of manmade in the mix.
  7. doesn't say giant slalom though. Just 170 GS. it does have the p-8000 base (ceramic?) BobD- are you sure there were original white-walled 180's? I think maybe not.
  8. Hey Dave, make sure it is your own handwriting this time... ;)
  9. At least 3 or 4 dozen times; almost always back foot. These were the Emery/sno-pro days. I used to carry extra bails on the hill. Never been hurt. Always able to just ride it out. Since switching to modern bindings I have only come out twice in the last 15 years. The last time I broke my leg (Tree;325's, race plates 1999) I didn't even come out!
  10. Are the front range boys still too busy shoveling to brag on this morning?
  11. That you seem to a man on the Edge, Ed2. This kind of intellectual intimation will certainly lead to intimidation or at least imitation And besides Those mustaches on pic one are starting to make me "Little bit jumpy Jenny Haden"
  12. I used to carry two toes and two heels. I've broken three in a day and had to go home. Almost always the back foot (narrow stance?) Then came Cat's and TD's and the fear of ever "bailing out". It wasn't really that big of a deal if you were on it- you just heard/felt that "snap" and rode it out.
  13. only when clipped in to appropriate carving bindings (e.g.emerys, sno-pros) on an appropriately square-tailed board. Not sure how anyone could claim more than 25 years. I bought the first HB bindings I ever saw in 1989. Was anyone really HB carving before 1984? PS Ink, we we're posting at the same time. So you were clipping your ski boots into the old strapped bindings like the Sims?
  14. Although my Sorrels with boot liners and thule sailboard straps tightly wound were pretty firm for the first three years! Didn't get snowboard specific HBs 'til maybe '94
  15. Your enthusiasm is duly noted and appreciated! Thanks for the heads up. Tahoe will shine this year. Big time. Early, often and DEEP. It wasn't long ago that Tahoe was chest-deep in El Nino. Tahoe can and will be the best snow in the U S, maybe the planet. Sorry Colorado. (I lived there for years, it's awesome:biggthump) Thanks again, Phil. Now you got me pumped too.
  16. Boreal always pushes the opening envelope but Don't buy your tickets yet- we're supposed to get pineappled with a couple of inches rain on Tuesday. On the other hand a slight shift aloft and that equates to 2 feet of snow...
  17. You can't plan to be a skibum in fact by planning you take your hat out of the ring. You must follow the path of least resistance to your soul. You must must embrace down when the world tells you it is your duty to embrace up. Like the apple that jumps out of the tree directly and irrevocably committed to the fall line, some have no choice. It's not just good fun, it's the law.
  18. Yeah, Shirley. (And don't call me surely) You may never leave Siberian Bowl. If it is the most beautiful cord you've ever seen then you need to get to Heaven [ very, very early ;-) ] But Squaw's not just about the groom... Cheers.
  19. We'll see your inch and raise you 4" more at Lake level. Mt. "Shellac" is seriously more that dusted! Now if I can only get thru Indian Summer
  20. Sinecure- "Moving to become a ski bum" I came in '85 for a weekend of powder and bluebird skies... Am I at risk?
  21. JM-"there was basically no point in even bringing carving gear." ??? I respectfully submit that there is basically no point in even bringing anything other than a race board to Squallee. :) I'm sure you're skills have advanced since '98. Or maybe you got there on the wrong day. Like August?
  22. This will slow you down in the Super G! I told my son when he was three (2006) that he had to take me on skiis before he got a board. The next year I came across an apocolypse "Child Prodigy" with Wombat plates that fit his ski boots. Now he wakes up and says "Daddy, can we go 'Curvin' today?" He can just about handle the B-4 in the summer! Enjoy the ride. Trench
  23. I can see Luke Skywalker in one of those grooves with my middle eye!
  24. Not directed to you... Softbootsailor said he had "One board" Burton Super 164 and 171 or something I said that's 1 1/2 and scared him into ghosting Sorry Softboot, nothing personal, I'm not hatin' The Jake Colintkemp, Love to ride sometime Cheers
