if you mean freeride as in FREERIDE - i.e. alps with uber-mixed conditions: donek axis 182 (yes, OLD axis - softened by years in use with rockered nose (due to usage too)) with razorsharp edges, f2 race ti, head stratos pro (modified, softened). and swallowtails when powder-riding on local mountains. when I need to travel with only one board: i'll take 1 boots (hsp), 1-2 bindings (f2raceti), and 1-2 boards (donek axis182 always, pogo overdose for icy days - if possible) so let's not mix powder & freeride ;) freeride is almost always is MIXED CONDITIONS. sorry, angles: 55-48 on axis, 65-60 on overdose. i'm opposed to idea of low angles -- to much harm for neck vertebrae and head' blood supply in the long run (100+ days of riding)

it's sure fact of life. yes - same heel same DIN same bindings. but different mold, different shell material (way softer than deeluxe - so deluxe heels would break like glass, but head heels would tear like leather), different heel pad surrounding construction... so heel bail support of boot with soft heel pad can stand the forces of riding on deeluxe, but only so much on HSP. i've usually needed only couple of days to destroy them, and all (!) other 190+lbs riders known to me DO tear heel support on boots if erroneously started with soft original heel pads yesterday I took my lady' sb325 with new replacement raichle heel, though - and found that it is rather stiff - so possibly can work on strati... but counting on my extensive experience - I cannot recommend this, maybe for possibly lightweight and-or beginner riders.

haven't seen burton heels, sure they may be rather stiff too, but really if you need to replace heels on modern HSP - real option is intec (maybe with broken mech and without handles)..

very-very correct! you CANNOT safely use soft heels on head boots, so only safe option is stiff original heels, or INTEC heels - as a replacement - for use in non-stepin bidings! too much heel tearage to experiment - using deeluxe standard replacement heels on heads is a BAD idea, for riders of considerable weight (80+kg) and-or agression.

thin bails is cool. many riders stands for 5.5mm over newer 6mm f2 bails: it's all about ride feel. and yes - I too want to find some source for 5.5mm replacement bail sets. anyone?

seems like "end of life" breakage. done that year ago with f2 race titaniums - both bindings broke in a couple of weeks, after 5yrs of use (actually 3 consecutive breaks - both heel bails & one t-nut under heel). seems like it must be replaced & disposed every 200 (or so) riding days.

yes, exactly which came with new intec heels usually you have 2 sets of pads made from different material - some soft rubber-like, and some hard plastic. rubber-like HEEL pads must be discarded and never used. rather soft boot's shell plastic must be supported under rear bails - or soft heel pads cannot provide support needed. so tearing like yours.. it is engineering problem of head boots for years, strange that they sell them with soft pads for all this years - so many problems in otherwise wonderful boots

+1 head's is true mondo - if your feet is wide, and seems like it's no good fit for narrow/low(?) arch/thin calves

;) I decide not to part with my custom coiler 196sg superboard - for those 2-3 days in season (out of usual up to 100) when outside and inside conditions met. this heavy (due to length and rubber dampening, and it's like 15-20mm thick at the waist) beast in THE fall-line cannot be compared to any other board: feels super-stable, damp and dependable. after such speed day I rode other shortboards much faster, it's low speed syndrome healer for sure )) and dual-radius like modern kesslers :) - 17m on the nose and almost classic parallel tail that's I call speed)

you took your boots not new from someone who didn't provide you with both sets of pads? my first strati was used too and with soft heels (only heels) installed on them - so I broke both heels in some couple riding days, good to find out this problem in time. strati (new) sold with both soft and hard heel/toe pads - so if soft toe pads can be used (it's nice to have some drag on ice or concrete) - soft heel pads MUST BE discarded and NEVER used, especially if rider is over 80kg. I saw many broken heels like yours - so it's common problem with this boots. counting all comments here, I disclaim that this works for me, but may kill you) but I'm not worried after looking after many head boot plastic's defects. and you definitely consider to replace original heel inserts with t-nuts when installing INTEC heels, do not forget to grease threads, and ride them hard then! ) and my broken strati of 6 years ago still going strong under one local hardbooter with t-nuts + intecs

it's usual MISUSE of stati soft heels - and rule one: NEVER USE SOFT HEELS ON HEAD STRATOS PRO. you can use this boots with intec heels now - without any problems: head's plastic cannot be crushed - only teared, so I see some pairs with broken heels (all due to using soft heels!!!) like yours still used with intecs for years then I learn this lesson the hard way too - some 7 years ago. hard or intec heels - and no problems since

strati goes exact in size: having 280-285 feet - riding in 28.0 stratos for some years (with custom sole) - cannot stand in new 27.5 for 5 minutes without considerable pain, but if I have some bootfitter around - maybe will go downsize a bit PS was in 27 raichle sb boots before strati

just after 2days on pogo secret spot in soft binders & mountaineering boots (without any calf support): just move you weight projection to needed contact point on the nose - with slight FOOT movement (think ride from snow up) - and all goes well. think about riding WITHOUT boot-binding support: and in some time it all falls in place to ride you must learn to STAND on the board: not relying on boots-binders. on GS stick in indys or swallowtail in almost noboot - all the same PS ideas © inner glide by thias

not at all. as a 2yrs pogo-lover - I definitely love lively boards with laid-back springiness - as my overdose-impact-blitz do. in moguls and on steeps. seems like dampness makes riding more 2D, but I want more like 4D ) I mean no sports here - fun-boarding only PS pogos are very damp though) I mean hi-frequency shatter - but I use f2 sflex now on knee-banging slopes

deep swallow is not only to drive nose up, but to drive tail DOWN when weighted - WITHOUT driving nose completely from the powder body, and little swallow's cut is completely another dynamical beast that huge swallow cut - just weight the tail of that tinkler - i.e. at carve's finish, and nose goes into the air - it's BAD and not swallowtail'ish. riding swallowtail INSIDE pow is imho impossible on that geometry - like it is possible on undertaker198, i mean and - all classic swallowtails (i.e. mine rossi undertaker 198) have decambered (and ponty - on it's own good!) noses from the beginning nils may have correct me on this topic PS I own&drive 2 swallowtails - undertaker198 (over 50cm of fresh & beaten powder, everywhere) & pogo secret spot 183 (tight trees & backcountry)
