  4. Planning a trip to Wengen this winter but to make it simpler I won't be bringing my boards with me. So, I'm looking to rent some alpine board(s) there. I'll be bringing my boots. Any shops around there that rents, say, Kessler, Oxess, SG or other boards? Shipping to my location might be a possibility too. But I rather do local. tx
  5. Best accessory? My girlfriend Really, she loves filming. GoPro8 with helmet mount. She's pretty good at following me around. I also have a 3ft stick and I've recently acquired a 9ft one! Haven't tried it yet. I've got some ideas on how to film using it; lay down a carve under it or follow a layed down carved from the front or rear (with the arm extended, that'd be good for about a 7m radius) I've stopped using board mounts as I've had the camera ejected a few times as the mount didn't stick properly (probably 'cause of the cold temps)
  6. Running: Road and Trail & LDP
  7. That's one reason I wear a bright orange jacket. So that I don't blend in with the 'scenery". I'll never wear dark like he does. He just looks like a very fast moving tree...
  11. Just got a JJSB 150ClearZ (8/9.2/8.5). Installed a plate (JJSB) on it. Note that I'm just a tad shorter than 5'4" and weigh in over 155lbs. I usually ride runs that are 60-80 feet wide at most, I'd say. 3 half days on it. Just love it. I can turn tight or let it go wide (surprisingly). Quick edge to edge when playing around. Feels light event with a plate. If you are agressive on it, it can be a good workout (HIIT) which is one of the reasons I like it. No regrets on Jasey's suggestion to go for a 150 than a 155.
  12. What have learned? - Muscle memory is really a great thing. OTOH, it also means bad habits don't dissapear by themselves. - I should train more in the summer - I can ride more agressively if I try, and I should and I do Which amplifies the above statements What have I been reminded of? - I'm addicted to this. Totally. And I have no cure, nor do I want one.
  14. Spinorama this saturday! But I can't put on the bridge kit (brackets in the center holes) with the plate as the brackets are pushed towards the extremities. I'll have to move them towards the center to be able to install it.
  15. Turny, Turny, Turny. Short board for short people 150cm --- 8.0/9.2/8.5m --- 25.2/19.0/23.5cm --- .4 titanal top/bottom (very stiff!!!) Just need to install the plate. (Bracket? Slider? Bridge kit? Decisions, decisions, decisions) And now with the plate
Moins long à marcher qu'au P1.
  17. Always with a plate unless it's early (rocks) or late (slush) in the season. I may be plateless if there's some good fluff over the groom. Lots of man made snow @ my local hill. So when the morning groom is gone, lots of ice remains. Diamond filing every outing (200/400/800) +1
  18. My local hill (Bromont) changed their hours so the hill closes @ 19.30. Daily pass holders start earlier on Sat/Sun(8.00) and Night passes also have their starting time dropped to mid-afternoon. Side-effect is that most night pass holders leave around 18.30(as they have to be home before curfew) leaving the hill empty 'til 19.30... So I may do some 18.00-19.30 stints weekdays when I work from the cottage. Right now, I'm wishing for snow. As much as our hill have been making snow about only 50% of the terrain is open which makes for more crowded runs.
  20. This is my local hill's measures using the Quebec government guidelines: https://www.bromontmontagne.com/en/mesures-preventives-covid-19/ski/
  21. Replacing a 157ClearZ with the same but shorter radius (something 8.9/8/8.9) and reducing the thickness a tiny bit at the waist. Wanted something even more turny (the previous one was just too close to a 163ClearZ that I have). This one will be more for the icy/narrow/steeps that we have at my local bump. More on it when I get it. I should be one of the first builds this autumn. I believe his current slots are for skis right now. I'm glad Jasey is not a golf nut like Bruce!
  22. BTW, using Jan 1 has pandemic start quite convenient to make your point as most COVID deaths occured past mid-march. And that most Influenza caused death usually occur from Dec to April. Start at the April timeline and you'll see that your line of thought doesn't add up. Flu is seasonal (Dec-Mar mostly). You can't extrapolate those numbers for every week of the year. Using your own quoted https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/07032020/nchs-mortality-report.html chart, you can see that from week 1-11 never reach more than 4500 (give or take a few). And what happens after? the numbers just jump. (some over 300%) What happened? COVID. As much as you don't believe it, that's what caused it. Yes, spikes do occur from influenza. 2018 had one, I believe 2014 also had one. And those spikes are in Jan-Mar. But nothing compared to what happened this year and later than the flu season. Past skipes don't even come close to this year and there was a lockdown to "reduce" the spread. BTW, avg death from Influenza in the US is estimated to be round 35Kyear: https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/past-seasons.html and most have occured in Dec-Mar. So by then, starting april, those deaths aren't as significant in the stats. Now, the charts below are interesting as they show excess deaths from other countries. https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2020/07/15/tracking-covid-19-excess-deaths-across-countries I guess they all had a "flu" issue there too? I also applied the excess deaths logic to my province (Quebec) that was hit hard (AFAIK, we're worst than the US with COVID deaths per capita) and you see a big spike during april and may (a bit less in june) that can only be explained by COVID (and that other flue related spikes are nowhere near this year's numbers (and that's with a complete lockdown). BTW, why would politics be the driving force into this "minor" pandemic? I'd be interested in hearing your theory... Cause as a politician, I sure wouldn't want to bring my govt (local, state/prov/region, country) to a standstill unless I really have to. Otherwise that would be political suicide. I understand that for many people, this is a tough time. And during those times, many are looking for a quick resolution (and that's normal). And we question many of the policies of our governments (local,state/prov,country). I have and it's a good thing. Nothing's perfect. And it's a good thing to bring them up. I question my govts' (Quebec) wall to wall lockdown. Some regions had little or no cases. There could have been more "leeway" than the harder hit regions (Montreal Met) especially that they essentially closed off those regions (no inter-region travel). They did let grade school finish of their year in school locations. But only outside the hard hit areas. So kudos for that. Finally, having access to all types of media screaming conflicting facts/opinion doesn't help. But excess deaths don't lie. It's good you bring them up but I strongly believe you're not reading the numbers right. As a side and happier note, I spent a good hour with Jasey talking about nothing and eveything and my new board!!! Just can't wait to get back on the slopes. And I really believe we'll be back on the slopes this winter.
  23. Quebec resorts should be closing as per request from the province's Prime Minister.
