  1. Fun sunny day!! Rob B, me, West and Johnasmo. John and I tested out a 185 Winterstick 16-17-18SCR. Winterstick is on to something really special with their carving boards! Damp, intuitive and fun!
  2. We like to trickle out footage all year long...
  3. My Mom would say, “then I guess you really do not need new boots.”
  4. Filmed by @Jcar Edit by Anna K https://youtu.be/bIa87Gcm1Aw
  5. Lots of boards. Have them all set up identical with angles and lifts. I like to keep it simple.
  6. Yes I have on all of my Deeluxe boots and old Raichle’s. I believe the way to correctly determine if you need to, is to remove liner, stand in boots (just socks) in bindings on the board and adjust cuff cant to make distance equal around all sides of the cuff. Carpet carving and tinkering with what is comfortable, makes for happier days at the hill.
  7. I do not think they are carried by any retail store in the USA or CAD, much like the rest of the gear we use. If you are wanting more flex, I would start with the blue springs.
  8. The BTS in my opinion are the best performance gain for the buck. I rode red springs but a lot of people mix them for different rates of flex. Blues seem pretty popular also. You might want to get a blue and red set and start experimenting.
  9. Wednesday was awesome carving!!! Just enough pockets of fog to keep the speedsters from crowding you. Really good grooming and did not get pushed into piles till late in the day. fun!!!
  10. Are you running a BTS? https://bomberonline.3dcartstores.com/BTS-Kit_p_106.html You can really adjust the flex then.
  11. Welcome to the Forum! Yes! Boots first. Check on the For Sale part of this forum, or on Alpine Snowboard Trader page on Facebook for used stuff. Lots of great trustworthy folks at both places. This board might work also. Or make a post in the Wanted to Buy section. Lots of really helpful people on the forum! At your size and weight, you may have a hard time finding a good board. www.donek.com has a great “get started carving” package. Give them a call and they will help get you on the right stuff! Talon Board, boots and bindings for right at $1lk. Then you will have a setup ready to go! www.YYZCanuck.com has boots and bindings as does www.upzboots.com Read the documents section in the forum main entry page, watch all of the videos you can. Then find someone to spend some time riding with you to help you get going. Good Luck! Feel free to PM me if I can be any help. Welcome!
  12. The WoGoCoCo is the same sidecut as a Contra but with straight lines. Feels the same, but just a bit better on the icy stuff. I guess I do not notice the skatey nuance on it or on the Contra line, but I do certainly feel the board really engage underfoot on icy or firm snow. The current Contra’s are designed to be ridden dead center with your weight. This makes them very easy to ride and ride well. The Contra’s have with widest range of conditions that they are good-great carvers. The Contra is not a replacement for every board you have, but a great board for when you do not know how conditions will be. The Contra’s are not has lively as K168, Nirvana Energy, VSR or NSR. I love those boards, you can change the turn shape and see by twisting the board, resisting board flex, flexing the board, weighting tip or tail. Those boards are an absolute hoot with good conditions, but when conditions get less than great or if I am out of energy, a Contra is the board I choose to switch to. The Contra is not a quiver killer, there is no such thing. The Contra is just an easy to ride, confidence inspiring, fun board.
  13. Just this picture. I still have the Ace Skwal and will get on it again. Will be sure to get some video. It was a lot of Fun!!!!
  14. Possibly... Enough cubical carving for me. Someone try this and let us know how it really works. I still say no steak sauce on a steak.
  15. The other issue is that the Contras are designed so that the sidecut/flex works in harmony with the weight under your feet. That is why it feels like on firmer snow that the edges really engage under your feet and as you power it up, you feel the edge pressure radiate out in all directions. I suspect a plate might be detrimental to this effect. With that being said, a sidecut and flex pattern could be designed to maximize the effectiveness for a plate/board design and still reap the benefits of a Contra design.
  16. In Montana it is a sin to put steak sauce on a steak. Same thing goes for plates on a Contra.
  17. Just a taste of the event. Carver Bowlby and Chester Fox are the Young Guns of Carving. I am excited to see where they take the sport! Also featured is @johnasmo and myself. Shot by @Jcar and edited by Anna K. 2022 Montucky Clear CUT January 31-February 3! https://youtu.be/-JVr7ADKTQs
  18. One real advantage to a Skwal is that in conditions that are not super fun on a carving board, fun can be had on the Skwal. Ice edge hold was spectacular and it is a blast in the bumpier stuff. It is also fun getting to learn a new carving tool. Learning is HARD and so rewarding! That is why we all carve. Every time we are out, we are constantly learning. An Ace Green Mtn. Proto Skwal will be a great addition to the quiver to maximize FUN!
  19. Of course I was! Would I wear anything else? Ace wears onesies when riding a skwal, so I figured I should.
  20. 10 lbs will not make a big difference. The biggest difference is the LVD = Livvid model is a very energetic lively board and the AMT = All Mountain Titanal is a very friendly easy to ride board. Stay on the AMT until you get super comfortable on it. The Livvid is a very demanding board that will wear you out quickly, and will probably not be much fun after the groomers get cut up. The AMT will be a great ride all day board. Dont be intimidated by the length, it actually gives you more stability forward and aft. You have some great boards! Have fun with them!
  21. Contra = easy, quiet and fun. I had Bruce make me a 185 Contra KK with a relative 14m SCR. If you could cross a modern Ferrari with a 70's Cadillac this is what you would get. FUN!
  22. The crew was there Tuesday - Thursday. They also brought Noah Elliot (Para-Athlete) of Winterstick Snowboards. They worked with many of the group including @monodude! Sounded like they will also be using some of the video shot by Vault Media. Our very own @Jcar shot some amazing GoPro footage for Chris Patterson that will likely be used. @Jcarand Chris know a lot of the same people in the film industry so Jcar got put to work. Working with Jcar was super fun and I think we captured what it is all about. We had 2 young guns at the event, I think they were both 26yo, Chester Fox of Big Sky and Carver Bowley. These two are freaking amazing to watch riding and will breath a breath of fresh air and energy into the sport. Jcar worked with them and that footage was SPECTACULAR!!! Expect to see the results this fall.
  23. The Ace Skwal Green Mountain Proto: My first time on a Skwal.... I was uncomfortable with low speed handling, I would say that is because of a lack of experience on Skwals but the second I tipped it on edge and let it run, I completely understood what this was all about. Stay centered, commit to the turn, and let it do its thing. SUPER FUN! Amazing edge hold on the rather rugged conditions that day. Super friendly on the knees in the bumpy stuff. A very intuitive board to ride once I got a little speed and let it carve. This is most certainly a board I would like to add to the quiver.
