fin
Yea, we are working on it. We have changed the challenge questions to register so going to see if that holds it off. Just keep sending us any other spams you see and we'll kill it. Man, why would they think someone would follow a link on one of these? Weird. Neil Gendzwill
Changed questions is good. Don't switch to Captcha, you will get flooded. It's useful only to annoy real new members.
charliechocolate
Man, why would they think someone would follow a link on one of these? Weird. "They" don't. Some automated script has figured out this site is running vBulletin and will just keep spamming for as long as it can.
lonbordin
BTW- vBulletin® Version 4.2.2 has a really dangerous exploit that I'm sure you've long since knocked out. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum/vbulletin-announcements/vbulletin-announcements_aa/3991423-vbulletin-install-system-exploit-vbulletin-4-1-vbulletin-5 Thanks for the BOL forums! Corey
The new questions seem to have beat the bots for a while. I wonder how they get paid? No one is dumb enough to click the links. Maybe there's another bot that simulates other IPs to click on the links? Or maybe there's a flat-fee per link posted regardless of usefulness. lonbordin
No one is dumb enough to click the links. From my work related reading spammers have an very low response rate (far less than 1%) BUT since they have such a voluminous output it makes it worthwhile in the end. Tugboater
It might be time for an IP ban.
Neil Gendzwill
It might be time for an IP ban.IP bans usually don't work, the bots spoof the IPs.
www.oldsnowboards.com
IP bans usually don't work, the bots spoof the IPs. FYI, Mods have been dealing with this for days. Dozens of deleted posts and all have been IP banned. That tatic doesn't work. I suggest banning entire countries of the offending areas. China would be first on the list. PS. Evidently PMs are slow or not working. Double posts , etc

lowrider
Doesn't look like this is slowing down yet. On a good note it looks like there is still a huge demand for English speaking teachers in China.
bruincounselor
I seem to get kicked out of page 2 of results from a "New Posts" search too. Has happened a couple of times to me today. Not sure if it's related or not, but very annoying nonetheless.
Neil Gendzwill
You're wasting time with the IP bans and potentially banning legit IPs that have been spoofed. Just ban or delete the accounts unless you are actually getting multiple accounts from the same domain.
Corey
This bot makes 30-40 new accounts every day. Most posts are singles, but sometimes they'll make two posts from one account. Please do not even click on the spam threads, I want zero views for each thread. Not to mention whatever viruses or questionable stuff might be behind the links they post! fin
Dang, they made it past the new challenge questions. I have temporarily turned off new registration until we can get a handle on this. Hate to do it but the Mods are loosing their minds trying to keep up. Working on it....
