Batsugun Nomarubain of chemistry between the F2

=Excellent combination with normal (non-intec) F2 binding.

Soruadaputa

=Sole adapter

Middobakkuru

=Middle buckle

(Yeah, I know, Japanese have some weird way of saying things)

So, it sounds like the boots work best with F2 bindings... or maybe it's just Japan.

, CATEK is not allowed.

 Perhaps Frank's got a wind of how Catek has been delaminating his boards....

Actually, the offician reason for this is that Catek bindings are rtoo narrow to receive the new sole adaptor.

There's no mention of compatibility with TD but we have SW!

The above translation is correct. The Japanese language is comprised of chinese characters and two sets of phonetic alphabets, one of which is used specifically for words of foreign origin.

The ironically, the translating software is having problems with those foreign words, like "Middle Buckle", "Sole Adapter", etc.

"86 000 Japanese yen = 951.67600 U.S. dollars (something seems wrong here)"

Actually, very high import taxes along with the cost to transport/import goods to Japan add about 50% to the price of foreign made goods, compared to what you pay here. Couple that with a strong Yen, things seem extremely expensive compared to what you pay for things here.

For example, this years Track 700 boot is selling on Bomber for $599, while I saw a seller on Yahoo Japan selling the same boot for 84000 yen ($930.00)

I can read Japanese, so please let me know if you have any specific questions.

hey, I've seen some stuff about how 3d printers are gonna change manufacturing plastics.

really cut down on prototyping time. AFAIK for mass production you'd still need molds machined of steel or aluminum though?

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2010/01/ff_newrevolution

Isn't it amazing? I'm not sure if you could really ride a 3D printed boot though. I don't think the plastic characteristics would be right. But you can make molds for substantially less money than just a few years ago.

It would be totally crazy if all kinds of garage based companies could ramp up mass production as fast as big companies can. That would be the second industrial revolution!

me too. seems like a elegant way to design a bit of compliance into the intec interface. as long as the shell to heel bolting detail can handle the movement without loosening / breakage issues.

damn, i'd love to see the day when you can go into your local boardshop & fondle / try on hardboots prior to purchase.

UPZ boots do look nice, and they'd give me fore/aft binding position adjustment (shorter sole length). but i can't help feel that i'd rip the toepieces out.

a nice design solution would be a toe bail shelf for plate bindings, that can be extended (for skis) with a ski DIN block, rather than an all-in-one unit.

Wolfgang Aigner from UPZ was at the Carving Masters in Sölden this year and showed us the ned ATB and told us about the new RC8.

We had the chance to give him a lot of feedback concerning his boots and he seemed to be very interested and very willing to make some changes following our suggestions.

He was also surprised that the Eurocarvers among us were quite interested in the ATB which he originally designed as a Freeride Hardboot for off-piste purposes only.

Note that the ATB is a very soft boot, softer than any other hardboot on the market, but at the same time on the same level as the RC10 speaking of design and technical features.

According to him there will be new liners for the upcoming season and the RC8 will be significantly improved compared to its predecessor RX8.

Let's see..

After testing the RC10 and RC8 during the Carving Masters I decided to finally switch from Deeluxe to UPZ!

Wolfgang (UPZ) just puts so much effort into his products and the fact that he is listening to “us” and puts "our" suggestions (if they make sense) actually into production wants me to be even more supportive. When I tried the RC10 vs. my Deeluxe it felt like I was wearing a sneaker, the weight difference is just insane! Perfect flex pattern and super fit.

I will end up with the Virus edition of a RC10 (w/ soft tongue) for the carving machines and the ATB for riding my Virus La Glisse Powder Guns.

On a different note, do you guys realize that buying a Virus board in Germany now and paying with USD puts Virus pretty much “on sale”! I heard of a few guys who already made use of the weak Euro and Frank was knocking off even more $$$ to be in the price neighborhood of North American manufactures. Thought to mention this, because it was said in the past that Franks boards are too/sooo expensive. NOT the case. If in doubt give him a call ;)

Cheers from Switzerland

I'm not into the 4 buckle setup on the new boot, or the rc8. I guess it allows more flex.

love the virus! the quality of the build is fantastic. the ride is like no other. the price was not that bad even last year when they were more $$. My thinking is you get what you pay for. any way you cut it, it's about 1000 bucks for any good custom board.

@ear dragger: esp the second buckle (starting from the toes) was badly placed on the old RX8.. from what wolfgang told me the upcoming RC8 will have this buckle placed nearer to the ankle which will make the heel fit better. but the RC8 will also have the cheaper shell material compared to the RC10 and ATB which is less resistant to temperature change (if I got him right).

The spring system seems to have much less travel compared to a BTS. It seems a much stiffer boot because of that, a bit like unmodified Head Stratos boots, is this true? Did anyone replace the springs with a BTS or something similar?

I also rode the RC10 with the mechanism open and the amount of possible flex seems not less vs. my Deeluxe Track 325 with BTS which I consider a very soft boot with lots of possible forward flex…

I did this last year the weekend after SES when we has a little bit of powder, riding a Rossi Judge with low angles - it was awesome!

Argh, Dan Yoja has the ATB boots too, and the same price as last year. Dammit, just proves the theory - wait five minutes and something better comes along! I love my RC10's, but those ATB's would have been PERFECT for my lighter weight.

"looks at the gear requirements for next season" ...

The latest tongues on the RC10's are softer than last year's. lf you buy the red ones they are down to 100 compared to the 130 standard black tongue of last year.... which are at 120 this year.

Could be a good way to achieve that flex you are looking for, Allee (^_^)
