  1. Just a quick update: we ended up adopting a Nikon D3100 from our in laws who was more than happy to pass it along to us so that they can get a canon rebel for themselves. We were considering the 3200 so this will work great for our current needs for now, and my wife likes the size and weight of the camera. Now I need to learn a but more photography so I can actually use this camera :) Thanks again for the input & information, and have a great summer! (Now, does anyone want to sell me their gently used nirvana??) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Thanks for the recommendations everyone! (& please keep more recommendations coming if you have any input!) We'll definitely start with the DSLR & make our decisions from there.
  3. Thanks for the replies! I'm starting to put together a short list (RX100, NEX5/6, & entry level Canon & Nikon DSLR) but I do think I need to get my wife to handle some of the different options in person to see what feels best for her. Along with the ease of use & quality of pictures, the biggest thing that we're looking for is camera that turns on & shoots quickly, as that's been our biggest frustration with our basic P&S.
  4. I know that this is a snowboarding forum, but I figured there are some photography people out there that might be able to help. We have a budget for an entry level DSLR, interchangeable lens camera system, or a nice compact camera with a better sensor. (we do have 2 Canon point & shoot cameras.) We just don't know what the best option is for us: is a DSLR overkill? We are looking to take pictures of our infant son, but realized that our iPhone & point & shoots have limitations when we print them. Neither of us are photography people, so ability to make manual adjustment is not a big requirement for us, at least for now. The most important thing is that we need a camera that my wife & I can shoot great pictures with ease of use, and we don't need the latest & greatest or 20+MP as we don't foresee blowing pictures up of our son's adorable cheeks to poster size. Anyone have any opinions on overall direction (DSLR vs other options), brands & specific cameras to consider or avoid, anything else we should be considering? Thanks!

Happy new year! Bump for giggles!
  6. I'm very happy with my Malamutes as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Seems like a great start this year with the early cold temps and snow! I'm on a break this year due to a baby due any minute, so I hope to be back on the slopes in 2014-5! (I just sold the last of my 3 boards last week, so I will be lurking on BOL to buy some new toys for next season :o) Have fun out there!

    Nirvana

So I hear (& read) that the new Nirvana kicks butt! (I enjoyed the VSR until this past season.) I did reach out to Bruce & building one is an option, but I just wanted to see if there was one out there that was just not quite right & needing a new home. I always try to find something used before going to a new build, as my seasons are short here in the Mid-Atlantic, and this season is expected to be much shorter with a new baby on the way at the end of this year.

    Nirvana

I know this is a looooong shot, but if anyone has a Coiler Nirvana they would like to part with, please PM me. Thanks!
  14. Welcome to the area! The Alps you will not find near DC... Generally, DC folks tend to head to Whitetail Resort (& Liberty & Roundtop being other local options) for day trips (http://www.skiwhitetail.com/winter), or Wisp Resort (http://www.wispresort.com/) if you're willing to drive a bit further into western Maryland, and I think there are other options in VA, WV & PA that I am not familiar with. Keep in mind, our seasons here are short, and weekends get very crowded by mid morning. Be sure to check out the VA/MD ride board closer to the season. We tend to bump into each other at Whitetail on midweek days or first thing on weekend mornings. (http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/forumdisplay.php?23-WV-VA-KY-TN-NC-MD-DE)

    Coiler VSR 173M

Bump FYI: Waist width is 20cm.
  17. BOARD SOLD! THANKS FOR LOOKING! Coiler VSR FC 173M (Sidecut Ave @13m), sidewall #s 6.7+6, built for @175lbs. I am the second owner, purchased March of 2010. (http://www.bomberonline.com/VBulletin/showthread.php?29927-Metal-AM-FC-Board-170cm) Original owner rode it less than 5 days, arrived to me near new, (& paid near new price for it), & I probaby took it out an additional 15 times, 3-4 hours/day between 2011-2013, being one of two boards that I had in my rotation. It has some additional bumps & liftline marks since coming into my care, (nose, from toe bail, & nick on topsheet, pics included) but overall, low mileage considering that the season here in the Mid Atlantic is short, & the window for decent carving conditions last 4-5 hours on most days, so overall wear is lower than folks who ride in better terrain. Where as it was easy to part with the Prior, this Coiler is flipping awesome. I will be looking for a tighter turning Coiler for next season if this one sells, & if not, I will be happy to hang onto this one. It's a keeper, but wanted to put it up to see if anyone would be interested in trying this board. $525.00 Shipped CONUS, additional shipping to Canada. PM Me if you have any questions.
  18. Dave, I ended up pinch hitting for you yesterday, but we missed you out there! I was scheduled to be in Boston, but cancelled the trip due to the snowstorm up there. Pius & se7en, it was great riding with you yesterday! Looks like yesterday was it in WT, so will see you next year! Goro PS: Pius, PMed my email address.
  19. Pretty flipping awesome today! Clear skies, morning cord was fantastic, Snowpark held up until about noon before the temps made it slushy. Met Joe on his Swoard, & Mick on his Arbor A-Frame, both were putting down nice turns today. Should be really nice Thu/Fri once they get the new snow groomed... Unfortunately scheduled to travel both days...
  20. I'll be there, Tues 3/5, considering 3/6.
  21. So, planning to take a midweek day (Mon, Tues or Wed) off & hit WT the week of 3/4. (Putting in a day of work today in exchange...) Being that Thu/Fri is not an option, which day looks the best next week? http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/mercersburg-pa/17236/daily-weather-forecast/2243067 Still undecided...
  22. Congrats! Hopefully, you'll have a chance to enjoy it before the end of the season. Question to the Nirvana owners: I've not had the chance to demo a Nirvana, but is it significantly different/better than a VSR? I'm very happy with my VSR, and was thinking about trying a different MFG for my next addition, but I'm intrigued....</SPAN>
