  1. Sugarbush rocked today - great conditions - no crowds. And on Presidents day weekend - wow.

    Stratton...

anybody with a Friday 2/15 conditions update?
  3. 1. Why sell the proto? There's nothing wrong with that board. 2. Throw out the Burton bindings before you hurt yourself. The site says Bomber. Go to the Bomber store for bindings. 3. Get real boots - this is the single most important component. Go up to the Starting Gate by Stratton and get fitted properly for boots. They carry Head and Deeluxe. 4. Ride. FYI - there are usually alpine riders at Stratton who would be happy to ride with you if you approach them.

    Stratton...

So what's the story. Stratton reports wet/variable, Okemo reports packed powder. Why do I feel Okemo is lying. Looks to me like everything above Rt 4 was snow. Stowe and Jay are reporting over a foot in the past 48 hours. What's the real story down south?

I so hated driving home yesterday knowing what tomorrow would bring after that fresh snow was groomed in....but alas I am just a lowly weekend warrior, such is my lot in life...I'm a bit distracted at work today see you kids soon and Paul K - thanks again for the advice and the 3 degree disk. I have one on order.

    Stratton...

Thanks for torturing me. Today must have been perfect hero snow. I woke up this AM at around 3:30 and was thinking of just getting in the car and driving up. But Noooo. I had to go to work. perhaps Friday before the crowds .....
  11. got one but you can't have it!
  12. so what do the employees that worked in the original factory feel about the move? what are they doing today? do the Chinese take the same pride in their workmanship that they did in Germany? Do they even know what a snowboard is? f globalization and f walmart. It may be as good a board as they built in Germany but personally I would never knowingly choose a Chinese deck over a European or N. American manufactured deck. The whole thing just makes me sick.
  13. Magic is useless. I have a condo at the base. No snowmaking, little grooming, the steeps, when there is snow turn into mogul fields. The blues are short and boring. After a good two foot dump the place is awesome, other then that, forget about it. Bromely is nice but there's not much to it and the steeper runs are short. Of your choices, for carving Stratton is your best bet - they keep the rich happy by blowing snow and grooming the crap out of it. Also - that's the only mountain with any kind of carving presence. I haven’t been to Mt Snow since I switched to alpine but as I remember it – sub par snowmaking, grooming, lifts, and masses of humanity. Okemo has become my mountain of choice this past year. On par with Stratton in snow quality, the crowd has a bit less of that entitled attitude Stratton is famous for, and the runs have more variety IMO. Every mountain sucks on weekends (when I do 90% of my riding).
  14. A Stratton value pass good at okemo and stratton is $549 pre-season. That's a no brainer. Depending on your standards there are sub-10k a season rentals available. If it's a condo you don't have to pay for plowing. Anyone who talks about a security risk in VT must be high. I've been renting in Londonderry for 8 years and it is way cheaper then around $tratton. It also has the advantage of being relatively close to Okemo so we can mix it up. The nice things about a rental is you don't have to drag your stuff back and forth every weekend, being able to shower and relax before the drive home, you can cook in instead of going to restaurants, and basically hang out in a proper living room instead of being trapped in a hotel room. It's a much more relaxing higher quality experience. Try finding a share in a ski house. As Jack said – it is a commitment to a lifestyle. It’s not cheap but done right it’s very rewarding.
  15. This article is describes my experience and struggle to a tee. Great post.
  16. I've only been to Copper but it was incredible. I'd go back in a second (mid-week of course)
  17. Sounds dangerous to me. I'm sure water as soaked into the core thus compromising it. It's a 7 year old de-laminated board. Put it in the dumpster. It’s dead. There are plenty of good boards for sale here cheap and all of them are better then a 7 year old de-lamed Nitro! Time to kiss the old flame goodbye my friend.
  18. No offense but there are a lot of better choices for those off-piste days. After my experience of folding the nose in about 5” of powder on the UP I would be very cautious riding that board.
  19. My Ultra Prime almost killed me driving hard in powder one day. folded right in front of the front binding and sent me flying (right under the lift!). the UP is a piece of crap. I've had very good luck with my Donek 171 FC1. I've got well over 100 days on it and it's still fresh. BTW - I'm closer to 220. I'm sure the Coilers and Priors are up to snuff as well but have no personal experience with them.
  20. BTW - Okemo was in great shape last weekend and not very crowded.
