  1. I too ride with the front locked and the back in lock/flex mode. I feel it lets me drive the back knee more and makes it easier to flex when setting up for the next turn. It's all a personal preference.

  6. just do a search on the subject, much has been said. here's my take. 1. buy a cheap iron dedicated to waxing. 2. I use cheap bulk wax and wax often (just about after every time out) 3. invest in file guides and learn how to use them (carefully!) 4. Diamond stones are your friends between and after taking a file to the deck. 5. get a good brush to get the wax out of the structure after scraping. 6. get a snowboard vise - makes life a lot easier (I have the ones by Red) read all about it on tongars website: http://www.tognar.com
  7. boys like Doneks in all shapes and sizes. My UP was good to learn on but is now my rock board and my Ballistic was sold after demoing a Donek FC. You can't go wrong with a Donek Freecarve or any other version. I'm sure the Coilers are the same but I have not had the opp to ride one yet to give an opinion.
  8. I've owned both boards. The Ultra Prime is a good all rounder, fairly damp, easy to ride, and decent at speed. The Ballistic is a very lively ride with a fairly tight radius, tighter then the Burton I believe. My Ballistic used to toss me once in a while before I realized what was happening; if I was too sudden when changing edges the board would literally act like a spring and just toss me. After the third or fourth time I figured it out and learned to be smoother during transitions. I think both boards are fine - just different.
  9. There are usually a good number of hardboot riders at Stratton on any given weekend. They're all a pretty friendly bunch. If you ever decide to ride Stratton just come up to one of them and introduce yourself and ask if you could hang out a while. I’m no expert but when I started there three seasons ago I got plenty of tips and advice from the more seasoned riders on the mountain. Also – if you contact PSR I’m sure he would be glad to work with you. He’s one of the best.
  10. I rode softies for years and learned to carve on a 168 ultra prime. I feel this a great board to learn on - much more forgiving then a FP. A 178 FP will be way too much board for you and you don't want anything shorter then a 168 (I'm 6"3" w/ size 12 pods as well)

  12. The Carving Community is getting really cumbersome on the new site. All the polls (stop that by the way, that's about enough!) come out on top and any real threads get buried on the second page. Most other forums are divided into subject areas with Polls having their own Subject. How about dividing up the forum by subject - General Crap, Tech Talk, Resort Areas, Regional, etc., etc. Then maybe have an area with the most active 10 or so subjects so you don't have to search for active threads. I would keep the number of subjects to a minimum. Just my 2 cents. Cliff
  13. What about my question Mr. Fin-man! Anyway - Can the stiffer torsion return springs be retrofitted to the TD1's. If so - will you make them available?
