  1. I'm so jealous. I was in Norway only about 6 weeks ago, but didn't realise that I could have taken a board over!
  2. Somehow I think she'll want to be on your side of the bar....
  3. Just tell me what to buy and I'll get it next time I go through duty free!!!
  4. Having real trouble finding anywhere online that is broadcasting because, apparently the powers that be decided it wansn't necessary to stream it because there wouldn't be sufficient demand. Hmmm??? Anyway, the whole day on Wednesday (up the Alp d'Huez) is being broadcast by ITV4 in the UK and you can get a direct stream online. I even managed to get it through the firewall at work the other day with no problems. Unfortunately they are only doing this on Wednesday. http://www.itv.com
  5. I saw Powderfinger / Ben Harper / Counting Crows in Hyde Park London a couple of weeks ago which was pretty awesome (except for the rain). Have tix booked for Xavier Rudd in a few weeks too, which I'm really looking forward to. If you like blues & roots kind of music, he is doing a North American tour in September which I really recommend.
  6. Tips? Do whatever exercises your PT tells you to do, better than you have ever done any exercises before. Oh, and tap into Vanessa's head when you come to visit. She is a Physiotherapist and deals with a bit of this stuff, so she might have some tips too.
  7. IMHO 7ft will be too short for a first board. I'd look at something around 8ft, but nothing under 7'6". Once you progress, you might get into shorter boards, but by that time, you will have gone beyond a second hand starter anyway. The more important factor is probably thickness and width rather than length though, because the wider the board the more stable and easier to learn (generally) and the thicker, the better it will float you and the easier it is to paddle and catch the waves in the first place. The other thing to consider is whether to buy a hard or soft board. If you are committed and plan to get out every day and are prepared to take a few knocks, then get a fibreglass board. If it's only going to be a once in a while kind of thing - like on weekends - to start with, then maybe a soft board might be a better way to start, for this summer at least. They also have the advantage that you can give it to your girlfriend / little brother / mates and not worry about it getting damaged and they will have a lot of fun. I'm a little biased, I'll admit because my best mate owns the company, but if you are leaning towards a soft board, take a look at G-Boards (www.gboards.com.au). I know they have US distributors and the boys there will be able to put you onto the right person.
  8. I'm trying to watch. Have a Dutch guy beside me at work who is doing a fantasy team, so he is giving me updates during the day.
  9. Speaking of the East Coast, I am coming to NYC in November or December (dates will be decided and tickets booked tomorrow night apparently). Never been to the east side before, so I'm really looking forward to it. Will have to tap all your collective brains for suggestions of things to do / places to go (or not to) at a later date. Although I have an BOL EC visitor next month, so hopefully she will be choc full of good info...
  10. Hate to put a dampner on things, but I doubt we will be seeing Fin's latest innovations until after the lawsuit is finally settled (which, from a look at the court papers, might happen in September - fingers crossed). BUT, when that happens, I want to be able to get at the base screws without having to remove the top plate. Just a simple little request from an inherently lazy guy who hates undoing 6 extra screws to change boards.
  11. Yeah though it looks like we need to wait until after 2nd September 2008 at 10:00am San Francisco time until we break out the champagne.
  12. Yep, here all summer long. If you are serious about coming over, you are welcome to stay. We have a spare room (a real luxury in London) which is open on a first come first served basis. BOL buddies welcome.
  13. I agree. Still, good to see it's basically in one piece.
  14. I am, for sure, if you want to make it a new drink fest in England....
  15. Congrats on graduating Tonja. Sounds like it is congratulations all over this page. I'm jealous of the road trip. Haven't done a good one in a while. Must be getting old. Don't worry about the tumbleweed. Better to hit that than a kangaroo....
  16. I have not made it to Sth America yet, but I have a good mate who has been all through there (lived in Lima for almost a year I think). In fact, you'd like him. Good looking, single, good professional job, currently living in your (general) part of the planet, etc, etc...
  17. Great work Pebu. Congrats! As for me, don't have time to get up to anything particularly exciting because I'm up to my eyeballs working. So the weekends are relax and do nothing (and get accosted by the other half for doing so) time. Going to Norway next weekend to see some friends though which should be fun. Also visiting my aunt who is renowned for her awesome wine cellar.....
  18. This is a great thread. My multi sport pack is a bit too multi at times. +1 for the stashable straps - Nothing worse than getting a floating strap caught on the chair (who was it went around the bull wheel on Tiehack a couple of years ago at SES as a result of exactly this?) +1 for small electronics pockets on the front - yes, ipod and phone technology is changing rapidly, but there is still a need for somewhere to put them, and being accessible like on the front of the shoulder straps is a great place. Possibly a few female clips on each side with a few adjustable straps with male clips on both ends, so that you can decide exactly how and what you strap where (eg: boots, board, etc) or if there is nothing strapped on the outside you can completely remove and stash the straps away so they are not flapping about.
  19. Ah yes, but just because it is alive doesn't mean it is LIVING!
  20. Did you finally graduate??? Congratulations on watching the midget flip!
  21. Good luck Dave. Don't envy you at all, but hopefully the short term pain will be worth the long term gain.
  22. Our sentiments exactly. Great to hear you are on the mend. Dan & Vanessa
  23. I have noticed over the last few years that the number of posts in the Waaaaaaay OT thread is inversely proportional to the number of inches of ridable snow on the ground. Now I know there is no more snow (apparently) and the season is finished, so what's going on?!?!?!
