  1. Thanks for the review.....Im used to stiff and sharp for handling hardpack. The Madd really does seem made of thick resin layers......
  2. LAST year our local hill. was bought and the new owner did upgrade the snow making..unfortunately now there are rails and jumps and elevated platforms all over the place. The kids cant resist it. No place to rent helmets though. One kids head turned to mush when he did a backflip off the twin jump/rail thing. They are in court as we speak over why his organs were harvested so quickly.....sounds grisly?.....thats reality folks. Ive been taken out from behind many times.mostly at night though as day passes for the weekend have gone skyhigh.it sort of reminds me of when we were kids flying down some of those big hills in Pittsburgh because we didnt know any better.Still have cinders from the steel mills in my forearms. Permanent road rash.......Thats why I liek shorties......Its like the differrence between hotdogging and big gun surfing almost. You can usually maneuver out of a hairy situation before the tube monster gets you.
  3. I went small because if you ride on these little mom and pop places we have around here you ave to be able to turn on a dime and quickly.I had longer carve boards but i usually cant even open them up around here .Picture a crowded friday or saturday nite witht he parking lot full of school busses full of adrenilyn, testosterone soaked teen agers just jumping and flying off everything in sight.........Ive been taken out more times than I can count.I actually enjoy short boards with my soft setup.....Im into cruising and staying alive now in my upper 50's...I can take daytrips on weekends to places liek Holimont or Holiday valley . I need to move to northern Oregon or something.5 years to semi-retiremnt.......yay..Portland here I come............
  4. Just got my Madd Freeride WC for the next season atthe demo sale online. It look sand feelsl like great equipment and has the butterfly stuff on the front(sunflower and Michaeleangelo script),,My question is it sort of feels soft.Softer than my K2 Zeppelin even..Will i really appreciate this board on ice or should I unload it and get something else before I ride it on our stiff hardpack here in Western New York..It is in great shape and doesnt even look like it got demoed. It came from out west.I ride Catek Freerides and Solomon boots(stiff)Malamutes......thoughts.....
  5. I'm so bored and nutso that Im getting excited about my crop of Milkweed and the Monarch Butterfly hatch this year...sheesh.....its fun popping groundhogs witht he 22 lr I got at the ammish gun and quilt auction down in atlantic pa...If I get too wacky I will probably start posting pictures of caterpillers gorging themselves on milkweed.....its so cool......... :p
  6. THANKSfor the promo on PA....Yes, stop at Preque Isle and rolerblad e the beutiful 12 mile paved trail...then head south 15 miles and see scenic and exotic Waterford....where Washington gav ethe letter to the Frenchies to get out of town. Also one of the only statues where washington wears a british uniform.....eat at the Eagle Hotel where washington slept.....checkout the rednecks.hav esome realy terrible boutique brewery beer (Presque Isle Pilsner, or Railbender) then get back on the road....
  7. I have always liked the name SPOOKY since we had an old farm cat that used to hunt around our house by that name. Or SPOOK for short......
  8. Helping old friends move the other day(major move, lake effect erie region to hot humid atlanta...yuch) another empty nest baby boomer couple gone south along with the jobs and married children.......anyhow......while filling the moving van and taking trash out to the curb......a large box with an old Gilberts Erector Set on top.....the old packaging design from the late 50,s early 60,s was too cool I had to at least rescue the metal box..so they made me take the whole box of crap that came with it..anyhow when I got home and after the activities of the day when my darling contol freak wife wanted the ugly box out of the living room.......i checked out the contents......2 complete Lionel "0" gauge trainsets complete with track and trestles......cool beans......photos to come before i wrap it . I guess the logarithm you use to determine the size of your moving van truckspace is: 3 bedrooms x an attic full of crap x a basement full of crapp x 25 years of memories and 2 kids. I hope i never have to move somewhere that doesnt get decent snow. does whistler have a geezer old folks home?
  9. I would check ebay or any sources you may have that you trust,, or just go and check the scalper prices after the game starts..thats what we do all the time at PennState and get reasonable deals.....either way Beantown is fun..just hang out at the neat brewpub across the way from Fenway..........Surf the Earth and dont miss Silver Surfer this summer........
  10. I talked with Rob today and he said even he cant get tickets because everybody is beting that Barrie Bonds record breaking homerun will be one of the June games at Fenway...................any scalpers will be charging 3 times face value...........bummer :(
  11. otherwise known as Old Fat Guys Printing Co. Robbie will take his cut but youll get real tickets..hes sort of a RedSoxFanatic and always knows where to get a couple tickets to resell.....i think he has connections to the box office..email him and give him some turnaround time.....icerider

  14. I have to go to my wifes family reunion in a few weeks.Me and the kids calll it SlovakFest. Its like Polish Fest only slower....ha..ha...actually I really like the Slovak and Polish extraction folks..they really can cook ...teh last time i went there was like 20+ kinds of pies and the other ethnic delicacies were to die for. although i do not like how greasy and knarly, polish sausage is...tooo much gristle or something.maybe Iv enevevr had well made stuff..but here in erie, pa, sweet italian with onion aand greenpepper rules......think Ill eat my way through summer.....cant wait to try out that Madd Frrride board i got off the end of season sale.......
  15. I have talked quite a few people including ski instructors, hockey players etc. into trying snowboarding and entry level carving techniques by introducing them to the Burton Amp 6 line of boards. there sone on ebay right now at http://cgi.ebay.com/Burton-AMP6-w-step-in-boots-Bindings-FAST_W0QQitemZ200105279300QQihZ010QQcategoryZ36297QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem it is smooth riding with softies or hardboots ,actually very fun to ride around in hardboots and plates witht he boots in relax mode. Anyhow it has an oldschool geometry but is definitely a squaretail carving board.Look around for one in the dusty backrooms of local snowboard shops or on ebay or I like to try differrent locations of Craigslistings.....Seattle....oreegon...colorado etc. pick one up and gradually move the bindings into a forward stance. You will be amazed at how fast you can pick it up when you go from a twintip design to an actual board designed for carving, but with forgiving geometry. If I can find one I will relay the sticker info off the original board I have. Its from 1995!!!......old school still rules
  16. What was the peoples like?....I hated Erie for how backward and culturally deprived till I realized how wonderful the wacked out people are.....regional but real....... :)
  17. WOW, I I thought we got hit bad...till I read this thread.......My basement took water (4") when all the snow melted att once and it rained for three days at the end of the season. I feel for you guys up in Maine. The news didnt talk much about that kind of damage. I guess Erie isnt so bad after all. Im digging a sump pit this summer and getting ready.....the dehumidifier just kicked on......hope everybody dries out real soon....move all your carving videos upstairs ebven if the wife protests........the beer will stay cold though........keep on truckin, :)
  18. Yup, Thats Teh Wromg One ...type In Burton Asym Air 163 Goofy And See If You Hit It....it May Have Gone Down Already
  19. theres a really oldschool looking asym air 163 goofy on eaby going for a song. hope Im noy getting that dang collectors bug but it sure look ssweet....Im goofy too.....pair it up with those nordica sbh's...saweet back to the future.....asym will rise again.........
  20. Its worth it for the Cateks!!!!You stole that board.....Lucky you......I love my Cateks Freerides.........so smooth.....even in cruddy stuff.Makes a mediocre board even perform better................
  21. compare the lacing system to the Driver X on the Burton.com site. the laces are almost internal compared to the old school style of most other boot manufactureres that hav ethe studs and laces on ther outsid eof the boot
  22. I am looking for a good set of boots ..the Burton Driver X boot witht he zone lacing system..in size 10 wide or 9 1/2 wide.do they come in a wide size?
  23. I went back this season and had a lot more fun..especiallly in the late season......I was just using the Solomon Malamutes , Catek Freerides and an K2 Zeppelin..soft nose butr a lot of fun.......Im waiting on a Madd Freeride 159 WC and hope to have more fun and edge hold this next season.....ou rhill is closed now....but am looking forward to next year.theres a nice sounding Donek Incline 155 on the FOR SSALE. classifieds......has anybody tried the Burton Driver X boots are they really that easy to slip into and ride as the Burton site says?......the Malammute laces are a lot of adjusting especially if you get to the hill in a dark parking lot situation.........
  24. I got quite a few people started on those Amps.they really are easiere to learn on then they naturally let you carve bettter than the lunchtrays that the industry was producing at that time.(95) wow.....nice ride..I still hav ea Amp 6 156 that I break out once in a while with hardboots......eastcoaster
  25. I saw a nice looking Prior MFR 158 on their USED and Demo page for $425.american bucks. I have to get the specs for it.It sounds nice..... I think Madd is in that price range also
