  1. Being a proud Pittsburgh expatriate. I have to recommend the Church Brewery out at the end of the Strip District. Its right up the hill from the original Pittsburgh Brewery (Iron City).Sadly Iron City has fallen on hard times and is $2,000,000. dollars in hock to the city for water!!! (It tastes so bad that everyone thought they used river water out of the Allegheny .) I remember many a case of 16 ouncers on weekends. Tubby's over in Mt.Oliver would sell us cases because no one else would buy Iron City...Our 60 Chevy Impala would hold at least 4 cases in the deep trunk....
  2. Im starting to forget winter already!!!! Cant imagine the yard all white!!!!
  3. Just mowed all the grass and now Its Miller Time.....Putting on the Magic Hat fer sure...........;):D
  4. This Thread is starting to sound like my favorite movie"Canadian Bacon" where they try to get the Canadians to start a war with us.They insult everything imaginable and break every law n the books but are successful only when they insult Canadian Beers.....John candy's best flick.....way too funny.......absurd.
  5. MAGIC HAT #9 and Circus Boy (Hefeweisen) are my new favorites after spending time in Portland Maine. magic Hat #9 is a fruity Apricot flavor, tastes best in a glass.preferably a Simpsons Duff's tumbler. Also a great one is DogFish Head Ale. at the Bear.
  6. Im starting a search for a reasonable priced Prior 161 ATV. It doesnt hav eto be fancy or no scratches etc. I dont care about dings etc. I wont be making up my mind real fast but want to start the search now during summer. I have a Madd 159 freeride to sell to raise some cash or will trade if I find someone interested.......thanx..eastcoaster
  7. After a great winter of Steelheading in Erie Streams & tributaries I have to learn how to work a heavier flyrod8-10 weight....They got some wicked patterns around here for Steelhead....Crystal meth...SuckerSpawn....I did real good on eggsacs, but those flyrod guys can produce on days when Im not getting a hit.........
  8. Its work but it pays off....I started my girls boarding way back when they were little kids...soon you guys will be packing them off to their first professional job. Heres me and my daughter enjoying a day together at Sunday River. I know both kids will always love the snow and pass it on to their kids.....rock on junior jedi !
  9. Digital Dinosaur :Journeyman Film Stripper and Cameraman..yay Union!!! MILK IT! BACKWARDS into the Future...no sign on the building....no website...one underused email box.
  10. Wow!.....I would love to live there but with two kids in college, I,m just glad to be able to go fishing for big game fish cheap. I may make it to whistler though.I have a brother near Bend (sisters) that just bought a timeshare in Whistler Blackcomb....the snow quality here is nothing to brag about believe me...its like ride ice or stay home!......west is the best no doubt....I,m just glad to have a job in this rust belt town.......:D
  11. I just got into the steelheading this season when an old buddy loaned me all his secondhand gear.neoprene chest waders, expensive st.croix 10'6" noodlerod and a decent reel that doesnt birdsnest the line going out. i went on ebay and got a xxl Hodgman vest with tons of pockets...basically you take evrything but the ki=tchen sink and hike in till you find a pod in a hole or riffles. eggsacs in differrent colors got me started..then you graduate to mini-foo jigs & maggots and. or live emerald shiner minnows all drift fished below a bobber and piece of small splitshot.......its a rush....:D
  12. I can see her obsession with trout and fly fishing gear.....we have steelhead trout (lake run rainbows) around here in the streams all winter and this year I had a hard time figuring whether to go cast for steelhead or go snowboarding....all depends on the snow conditions....hooking a 5 or 6 pounder is a real rush on lite tackle.........
  13. No that was a 155 i think and yes $200. was a real steal for a custom board like that....Mine is still for sale though.....make an offer if interested. Its a 159 though. a bit longer than the 155.
  14. LENGTH:159..EFFECTIVE EDGE:123..RADIUS:8.5..TIPWIDTH: 30.0 WAIST: 25.8 SETBACK:2.5.. MADD FREESTYLE 159 WC IN VERY VERY GOOD SHAPE...only ridden a few times...I got it from Hardbooter .com.closest offer to $400. plus shipping gets it...I bought it at the end of last season...I will post photos as soon as I ghet it together..It is a black bottom with the Michaelangelo script on the topsheet.and butterfly mattes radiating from eacxh binding position.
  15. Yes..nothing quite satisfies liek that first split second when you realize you have a big fish like that on light tackle. Its a giant adrenaline rush. I lost a really silver giant yesterday just because I had th eadrenaline rush and no net and tried to beach a big one befor eit was played out....It went into some slush and used it for leverage to spit the hook back in my face.
  16. I got started by accident while waiting for some decent snowfall here.We seem to be in another one of those wierd dry winters.Anyhow I ran into an old friend who was anxious for me to try steelheading. I didnt hav ethe equipment mainly good neoprene insulated waifers and a good quality noodle rod and good ultraligh treel. Well it seems he had gotten very compulsive and had tons of equipment laying around. So he loaned me a really nice St.Croix stream rod and some used Cabela Neoprene waders. The waders really allow you to get away from the crowds we get here in erie.If you want to see a real hoot.go to Youtube and type in Steelhead fishing in erie, pa. Anyhow he took me to a few secret holes that get very little to no pressure and I started practicing my "drift" technique. he started me outon commercially prepared Eggsacs which we get locally from a really good local shop. Then I started catching my own fish .When i got a big female full of eggs I experimented with tying m,y own egg sacs. The homemade sacs really score bigtime. You go get this curing powder from GanderMountain and just tye the sacs....Im experimenting with size.I hav ebeen tying them too big.as when ther water gets low and green ,you have to go smaller and smaller with baits, hook sand even linesize.Im at 4lb. test right now before freeze up. for a fascinating read..checkout fisherie.com and read the fish reports..youll be planning a trip to erie...lots of guys are fly experts too.and some guys are jig freaks with maggots..I stick with what works for me on my secret holes......what were you using on michigan streams?
  17. streams are low , green and slushy turning to ice along the slow edges. Most steelhead are bein taken on egg sacs. fresh skein and jigs /maggot combinations under a float...rod guides are icing up and you have to clean your line after evry 3rd or 4th drift. fish are taking the bait really light and you work for each fish.I had 3 takes with one fish beached today.Im waiting for a warmup to clean out the streams .maybe athaw or meltdown in another week or so?..No one on the upper hole sand you have them all to yourself..man what a rush....If i would hav etaken a net I could hav egot another big lake run rainbow but horsed him and he broke off at teh shoreline.....too much adrenaline gotta stay cool
  18. Hey Jack..just got back from driving the moving van and trailer to Portland...Wow..what a great town....Its liek they did everything right that Erie has done backwards....The lost Bear was great...favorite brew is bwtween Shipyard and Magic Hat #9..J's Oysters house was a jewel...Did my first Sushi..Its just a great place to visit I told my daughter how fortunate she was starting out there. She will be working in Saco and living in Portland.Sunday River was a little dissapointing after all th erain you guys got on friday..I almost didn tget to fly outon monday at all after all the flites were cancelled.Luckily go tde-iced and flew out just in time to connect in Philadelphia. Cant wait to get back for a visit....Nice people too.....:1luvu:
  19. Hey gang.....are there any places that we could demo and / or rent Alpine gear near Sunday River? I would liek to try one of those Prior atv's they look cool.....see ya there either 12th or 13th......
  20. Angie....that would be Richardson Associates in Saco, actually near portland I guess.....the truck leaves scenic and exotic Erie(waterford) thursday a.m.My payback is a day at Sunday River after unloading and setting up the new apartment.....probably saturday or sunday.......
  21. we are in a meltdown here in Erie PA.....This weekend I will be trucking my daughter up to Portland Maine to take a job with a firm there...What are conditions like up there . Their website says they hav eplenty of snow and they make a lot to boot..... really looking forward to riding a real mountain rather than a small snowpark......jack ..get the chowder ready....Im lookng fo r a trip to the brewpubs also....
  22. I really liek my setup mentioned above. Its just more fun than ripping down the hill so freaking fast tha the ride is over too quik.....I used to ride my Burton Alp with Reactors in Walkaround mode on powder days(few and far between)..now I can relax more into the ride ,...softboot sjust seem more natural..yes less precise edging but more relaxed fun..especially in smaller snow parks........
  23. while waiting for some serious snow.heres a real rush.I just started sunday and am having a ball.....still gettingh the hang of it..hooked 5 or 6 and land 2-3. on average....can only keep 2 in PA. after 1/1/08.....a rush!
  24. I just started a new addiction this year and its a gas...Fishing Steelhead in Lake Erie tributary streams....They are these huge Rainbow trout that come up in ther streams and winter over there.....Just caught one yesterday and had it smoked for new years....what a rush when they get hooked.....Its a real adrenaline rush while waiting for some decent snow..........hooked 5 today and landed 2. Its like liquid lightning when they realize they are hooked.....yow....
