  1. I was at Stratton. I was surprised at how relatively tight it would turn. I thought it was just going to rail me into the woods, but it didn't. Sure, you have to stay on the wider stuff, and it is difficult to whip it around for a quick stop, but it is very carve-able. I will have one someday. Actually I'm torn between getting a schtubby and a 200 now. argh.
  2. imo, 14m is too short for a 202. My 170 will be 14m. I spent a day on ~tb's 205cm 18.5m gun and it's simply a whole other ball game. Big fun. After I got my Madd 180, which has a 16m radius, I realized that you don't need as much length as I thought, and that shallow sidecut depth = better maneuverability. 16m is usually found on boards about 195cm. Heck, my skis are 170cm and 15m, and they work great. I've never had a schtubby, but the theory is that you get a board that carves like a long board but rides like a shorter board. In other words, you simply get a more versatile <i>snowboard</i>.
  3. I want to do this to mine. Talk about bling factor. Did you remove the decals first?
  4. Cool, thanks for sharing, sounds nice. Pretty close to mine. I've specified 14m, 21cm, 170cm, and a 155cm running length for extra schtubbiness. This is 5cm longer than would be dictated by the typical 15cm nose length, 5cm tail length formula. I could copy yours, but I have boards that are 12m and 16m, so I want a 14m to fill the gap. Also after riding my Madd 180 (16m), I've realized the benefits of shallow sidecut depth - makes the board more maneuverable. After this, I'll just need a 200cm/18.5m and my fleet will be complete!
  5. Hey, want to share your specs? I'm having a custom 170 schtubby made, maybe I could just get a copy of yours. (schtubby = shortish board, longer sidecut, yes? my 170 will be 14m)
  6. Dave Barry is freaking hilarious. If you do not think this is 100% funny and harmless, you are taking it the wrong way, and need to see a proctologist about that pole.... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/longterm/olympics1998/sport/snowboard/articles/barry.htm

    Winter driving

I never knew what skitchin' was till I moved here. Think wakeboarding, but behind a car, with your snowboard and a rope, on a snowy road with banks. Good times. Better with a little Dr. McGillicuddy's.
  8. Yeah, just follow YYZ's instructions TO A TEE and you'll be all set. Your first time takes a good hour and a half start to finish to do both boots. So don't start this at like 10pm and expect to get it right. I'll be at Sunapee with the Boston PF Posse at least one Thursday, hopefully two. See ya!
  9. Don't you just love it when sales people/shop techs/CSRs/etc just make stuff up instead of saying, "hmm, I don't know, let me check"?? I asked a shop if they molded Thermoflex liners, because I wanted it done that day and I had never done it before. They said they did. Well, I get there and they have one of those hair-dryer type rigs that just heats the insides of the liners. Long story short, the results were painful. I ended up using yyz's instructions and doing it right myself.
  10. No. Curt is one of the strongest carvers I've ever seen, and he has total command over his tool. He can put an edge in anywhere. However he is way too bent over. A lot of wasted energy there. This also diminishes your ability to balance. He's mastered carving this way, but it's not ideal.
  11. Jumping in late here, I don't know if anyone has said this. You're probably not committing to your toeside carve completely. Chatter often happens when you try to make a carve too big and too fast for the sidecut radius of your board. Believe it or not, the faster you go, the smaller the carve your board wants to make. This means you have to be really on it, angulate like crazy, feel the crease form in your downhill hip, crank up the edge angle, and drive the carve around all the way to the finish (perpendicular to the fall line). edit - good looking pic there. Your hips are down, that's good. Hips up, ass in the air = bad.

  13. (got this in one of them thar email fwds....) A winter statistic 98% OF AMERICANS SAY 'OH S**T' BEFORE GOING IN THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM MAINE AND THEY SAY, 'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS.'
  14. Well, the cutoff date for the Village Green is Feb 3. The Golden Eagle didn't give us a cutoff date, probably because they know they'll be sold out anyway. The cutoff for the banquet is Feb 8. <b>However...</b> the big thing is, as we've stated, there is no block of accommodations being held for us. First come first served, we're in competition with the general public. http://www.eces.us/info.htm

  19. Great to hear man. See you at ECES then? You know it's at Stowe, right? Get your crew out of retirement and bring them along, yes?
  20. ....is short for "Metric Ton". As in, what those skis weigh. I'd never want anything that heavy on my feet. Edit: oh yeah, forgot to say, sandwich is better.
  21. Wow. Shaun Palmer.... the Nolan Ryan of snowboarding.
