  1. good stuff. Reverse sidecut makes sense because on hardpack the snowboard must assume the shape of the carve. In powder, the snow does, just like water does for a surfboard.
  2. good one sir! Felt like the laundry spin cycle was off-balance times about 10! Felt it in my feet and there was a rumbling sound and glasses clinking in the cupboard. Never had this experience before!<a class="uiLinkSubtle" href="https://www.facebook.com/todd.brown.714/posts/4281503068651?comment_id=4511796&offset=0&total_comments=3" data-ft="{"tn":"N"}" id=".reactRoot[48].[1][2][1]{comment4281503068651_4511796}..[1]..[1]..[1].[0].[0]"><abbr class="livetimestamp undefined" title="Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 7:29pm" data-utime="1350430144" id=".reactRoot[48].[1][2][1]{comment4281503068651_4511796}..[1]..[1]..[1].[0].[0]."></abbr>

  4. Well, sounds like you better do it then! I doubt you'll injure yourself, but don't hold me to that. So you'll be out a few bucks for replacement cant discs, big deal. But my biggest fear would be what happens in a tumbling crash? I haven't had one in a long time, but...

  6. I would bet money it's a lot less than that. Too much preload would kill a lot of the suspension action. Fin would have to chime in on the TD3, but I do know from reviewing the cad drawings way back when, that the TD2 e-ring had 0.25mm of preload.
  7. You can't do this. In order for the suspension action to work, the center disc only "traps" the cant disc, it does not apply enough downward force to prevent it from spinning, no matter how hard you screw it down. The thickness of the space under the lip of the center disc equals the thickness of the e-ring plus the thickness of the cant disc minus a very small preload. If you screw the center disc down harder, you will only be sucking the inserts into the core, you will not be compressing the e-ring or cant disc.
  8. Hi, there is some info on getting started on the pages linked in my signature, good luck!
  9. I would be very concerned that the bellows would flex and pull the toe ledge out from under the toe clip.
  10. People don't have a problem with snowboarders, they have a problem with youth. Now that skiing is cool and hip and young again, I wonder what Alta is going to do about that. If Alta receives my tax dollars, then I should be able to play on it. I bet alpine snowboarders could ride there and if questioned say it's a monoski. "What if snowboards had been invented first? Then certain snowboard resorts wouldn't be allowing skiers on their lifts.... dumb." - Warren Miller
  11. One step at a time. No need to go whole hog on a plate right away. You can add that later. Some boards are now being built to require or work best with a plate, but boards that are not will still benefit from a plate.
  12. Another cheap and durable option, http://kinco.com/products.html?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=18&category_id=1 $12.
  13. 178 is not super long. It is common for advanced eastern carvers to own boards longer than 175. 185 is actually pretty common. Those 159 and 163 boards you mentioned, are they softboot boards? That aside, Mark, it does sound like you are looking for something shorter and more forgiving. I would recommend a metal board, something like a 171 freecarve from Coiler, Donek, or Prior.
  14. Rode TD1s on Burton Factory Primes for several years, many days, no problem. Curious.
  15. Moldable liners. http://bomberonline.3dcartstores.com/Thermo-Flex-Liners_c_55.html You want the 131 or 141. And custom footbeds. These two things help with circulation and keeping your feet warm, in addition to riding performance. Because they are formed to your feet, you don't have to crank your buckles down as tight. And you can mold them with a "toe cap" over your toes to create more wiggle room in the toe area.
  16. One of the first videos I ever saw, it made me ache to ride... http://youtu.be/B28kpDuqXVo do yourself a favor and check it out. Look at the emphasis on actual snowboarding technique in this video. Real snowboarders know how to turn gracefully.

  18. There it is, right there. Thank you Erik.
  19. What is the point? Practically EVERYONE behind him was CAUGHT for doping/enhancing, so who the heck do they think should get the medals?
