  1. For a portable interchangeable lens camera, I would look no further than the Sony a6000. APS-C is better than m4/3. For a pocket camera, Sony RX100-III or IV or the Canon G7X is the same size and has the same sensor but a slightly longer lens. You probably wouldn't even have to crack the manual going from Canon to Canon, other than to learn new features.
  2. I had my meniscus repaired in September too. Front knee. They didn't call it a bucket-handle though. I've been doing some relatively light snowboarding - about 5 partial days since Thanksgiving weekend, and my knee isn't an issue at all so far. I'm pleasantly surprised. Hopefully snowboarding will be less bothersome to your knee than ice skating.
  3. Agreed. Guess I'm an old fart too because I see numerous responsibility code violations. Oh well. If they did their research, they made the incorrect conclusion. Helmets are also intended to prevent/reduce injuries like concussion, fracture, laceration, abrasion, etc., not just death. In a study at Sugarbush, VT, helmets were found to reduce the number of head injuries for people wearing helmets vs. people not wearing helmets. The unfortunate side effect of helmets though, is that they turn many people into dumbasses who then take greater risks and incur greater head injuries when they exceed the capabilities of the helmets. http://www.lidsonkids.org/?p=358 The only logical conclusion can be that it is good to wear a helmet and behave like you aren't.
  4. I went there in 2010 with my 170cm 14m Coiler Stubby and wished I had brought my 185 NSR. There is some epic carving to be had, and not just in Casper. I also rented a Burton Supermodel 168 and softies and was glad I did that too.
  5. Sure. This is definitely unusual. This is the only forum I know of that won't allow post deletion. It makes no sense because you can just edit your post to something else, like I did. I think allowing edits and deletes within a time limit makes sense if the goal is to discourage post-ghosting. Please delete this too.
  6. Hmm, seems like we are no longer allowed to delete our own posts.
  7. I wonder... Looks like a Proteus with a slightly tighter radius, and no metal. I rode a Proteus 175 for 2 years and I have a new 163 for this year. I think the Proteus strikes a great balance between the edge hold of metal and the feel of a non-metal board. Smooth yet poppy.
  8. Meh. Racers sell good stuff here and elsewhere. Better to allow them to cross post. If we ban it, they're going to choose ebay or whatever else, not here.
  9. They're Deeluxe snowboard boots with DIN toe/heel. How would the ankle cable impede flex? Only thing that raises my eyebrows is the 130 flex. I tried a pair of 120 flex ski boots two years ago and thought they were crazy stiff for boarding.

    Lame, Windell.

So why not make HC the skier camp and make the snowboarder camp the one with the ex-pro snowboarder's name on it? Crazy, I know. Mass hysteria!

    Crap, here it is: http://www.newschoolers.com/news/read/Windells-SKI-ONLY#h80kbZXzwSgPR3rK.01
  12. Tim Windell summer camp goes Skier-only: http://www.newschoolers.com/news/read/Windells-SKI-ONLY#h80kbZXzwSgPR3rK.01 If you're wondering who Tim Windell is:
  13. I do believe it's possible you've been doing it "wrong", but that your natural ambidextrousness allowed you to adapt. I'd wager most people have (or had) greater potential following the sock slide test, however maybe if one snowboards the "wrong" way long enough, that potential is lost and they can never switch their dominant stance.
  14. You're right in theory, but in practice the accuser probably wants to avoid a defamation/slander/libel/whatever lawsuit.
  15. omg, what the heck is wrong with German people??
  16. Was a treat to see Jones, Adam Hostetter, and Mark Fawcett ripping turns at Sugarloaf when they were at CVA.
  17. I'd say get yourself a nice 175-185 alpine deck and go surf those big luscious western groomers. Any 158 has very little purpose out there as far as I can tell. I've been doing this since 1988 and it gets better every year.
  18. I have nothing to do with this, but it's rather interesting. I'm a fan of Burton, despite their exit from Alpine, because last time I checked they were the number 1 snowboard company in the world, and the #2 and #3 top snowboard companies were actually ski companies. Wouldn't it be a shame if the #1 snowboard company was a ski company. I love the story of Burton and the success they have created. I hope they look into this. http://yobeat.com/2015/08/24/an-open-letter-to-jake-and-donna-burton-carpenter/
  19. I used Thor gloves for the first time this season. Got about 50 days, they still look almost new. They could have been warmer a few days, the lack of waterproofing was only a problem a few days in the Spring, and I would much prefer a drawstring at the cuff rather than the Velcro which doesn't totally keep snow out. I messed up my order and paid $12 too much. He said he'd refund me, but it didn't happen for a while and emails got no results. A PayPal money request got instant results. YMMV. DeWalt DPG751 looks interesting.
  20. Best of Luck, Michelle! Thank you for your years of helpful and professional service to the Alpine community. You are a model of customer service. Nobody will ever do it better! Hope to see you again someday.
  21. I blame wide duck stances, too-short sidecuts, and profiles that aren't majority camber. Since duck has taken over (for whatever reasons, rental shops for one), fewer and fewer snowboarders make the sport look good anywhere outside of a park or pipe (or even there). And they can't even tell you why they use that stance. Few riders make skiers say "I want to do THAT." 3 of us had a softbooter friend on a trip. We took him off his Never Summer fs board with duck stance, rocker-camber-rocker-camber-rocker profile, and put him on a metal Coiler BX with back foot at 0 (he wouldn't let us go further), and lo and behold, mind = blown.
