  1. Really hoping one gets posted, I'm still looking too... Might have to bite the bullet and just get a new one
  2. Here has been my series of chatter this season As I was pulling away from the lift: Kid: "what is that?" Dad: "oh that's a mono ski" very matter of factly Women skier also came up to me and asked: "how do you like those step in bindings?" referring to my TD3 sidewinder standards. "My son wants some and I don't know which to get." I proceeded to show her I was in hard boots and using bail bindings and she was very confused as to why I was wearing "ski boots" on my snowboard Teenager park rats trying to butter and do ollies as approaching the lift line and falling the whole way: "duuude, can you take that thing off jumps?!?!" Also saw a softbooter obviously trying to carve like Ryan Knapton, but falling every turn as he stuck his butt in the air and reached down for the snow. Riding with @Jcar, just past the lift starting our descent, we passed a ski school class. Instructor told all the kids to stop a moment and for us go by and watch how we turn. Same mountain, my GF tried taking a beginner lesson and had slightly forward angles of her own accord (15 and maybe 5?) the instructor insisted that because of her stance she would be unteachable and unable to learn snowboarding.....
  3. Bump for end of season/ spring cleaning!
  4. My season isn't over quite yet hopefully, but next season I want to ride with some more people, improve technique, push myself on steeper terrain, get a softboot all mountain carver, maybe get zipfits, and try or buy a used k168!
  5. Just reminder to check the screws in your gear as the weather warms up in spring conditions! I lost a boot canting disk today, even though I frequently check my boots and bindings. My guess is the warm weather and variable conditions of the last 2 times I've been out since checking things helped to work its way out. Luckily the repair shop found a matching screw and a large fender washer to atleast hold it for the day!
  6. I want to! I should be able to swing that.
  7. I guess I really should say keeping a forward stance in being consistent on both heel and toe. Specifically in the follow cam footage I can see where I am still doing some counter rotation
  8. Got some more footage from yesterday! Picked up a Coiler Angrry here and took it out for the first time today! (Thanks @rjnakata!!) Spring conditions were in full force. It was not quite frozen solid in the morning, but it was close. More of a frozen granular corduroy. That only lasted about a run and a half though before it got soft, and then very soft by the 3rd run (the second half of the footage is there) Overall I had a blast on this guy. I feel like the run in between these two was better, both in conditions and how well I was doing, but I don't have footage of that one unfortunately. I feel I am making progress in facing more forward, but I know I still have some ways to go. I felt like I was initiating more with my feet and lower body, but to me the footage seems to look more like a cross over with my upper body.
  9. Yeah, I was unsure how I would like it, I haven't had the MK click with me yet, but wanted to try something turny and more nimble for more local crowded resorts. I have some video I will be posting in my riding critique thread of me on it. It took me a run or 2 to get used to it and slow myself down in the carves, but then it was great fun, even when it warmed up to 60 degrees...
  10. That was my thought as well watching the videos and looking at it. Wasn't sure if anyone had tried it and found different results.
  11. It's an angrry, just took it out for the first time today and what a blast!
  12. Hey Gorge, I will be there for sure! See you there!
  13. Anyone try this? They are marketing it as a 365 day esnowboard that you can carve. https://leiftech.com
  14. Wish I could have joined this week! Sou Ds like so much fun
  15. For sale a loved Donek freecarve 2 snowboard, with blue iridescent topsheet (pictures don't do it justice) 171 length, 19.5 waist, 11.2m side cut Still in good shape overall. It's got storage wax on it but nothing major in the base, worst thing is some typical binding suck. Pictures of it below, storage wax is pooled in it a little. Edges still have plenty of life too. Some discoloration around the inserts where the bindings were. The top sheet has some lift line rash around some of the edges, as shown in the picture. Overall would be a great beginner board for someone!
  16. End of season (or nearing end of season) quiver photo!
  17. Ouch that really sucks, I hope everything works out. Normally in my experience atleast they are found and delivered with a day or 2.
  18. Welcome to the forums and to carving! As others have said, you are already in the right direction, and you should do well with your background experience. Board advice is spot on. I'd recommend going with Bruce at coiler because of location (and I prefer his builds anyway) but the only downside is it may be next season until you can get one. He is really a one man operation and hand builds each board. Donek is another option and he can crank out boards in a matter of days. Thirst is another, somewhat newer option now, and lots like the different riding style of his boards, more centered than fore and aft pressure. There's also the non custom options (SG, among others) or the expensive options (Kessler, oxess). There is also the option of used. As long as you are in the right weight range and on a friendly board within the last 10 or so years, you should be just fine. The other big thing in my opinion is boots. As a skier you probably know your mondo size, so start there, new or used. Main choices are deeluxe and upz. Take them in to a good boot fitter and get that all squared away, new liner if needed (like ski boots, the liners can be molded a few times, so used boots are not a big deal either), so that way you are not having to worry about foot comfort and can just focus on technique. Bindings may take some time to figure out. Once you have a board and boots, just start on the carpet and figure out what is comfortable. Generally most are using angles somewhere around 60 degrees, often with some toe lift in the front and practically always heel lift in the back. Many also use some amount of outward or inward canting but not always; it is really whatever feels comfortable to you. Since all of this is adjustable, you really can't go wrong new or used. Different bindings will have different flexes though, some prefer stiff setups, some soft and flexy.
  19. If @bobdea doesn't take you up on that, I so want to! I am still really trying to find a used 168 somewhere. I don't know I can justify spending that much on a new board when I have never tried it...
  20. Possible day trip planned for 4/1!
  21. Yeah, I try and stick to weekdays lol
  22. For sure headded up this Thursday (the 21st) too! Met a soft carver, his son, and a first day soft carving trio last week! Knapton style! If you guys happen to come across this post, say hi! Sorry my terrible memory forgets names too fast....
  23. I had fun with the kite today. I got it because a number of years ago (maybe 8 or so now) my brother had one that he brought for my family to try. That is when he was living at the beach and went kite surfing. I remember it fun and challenging. I got the UNIQ 2.5 because it is a single foil, so less complicated and no need to inflate it, and it is supposed to be nearly indestructible. It also has a bar which if I decided to do kite surfing or snow kiting would translate to a full featured kite. It is a 3 line so it is a fixed bridal, one side for the left of the kite, one line for the right of the kite, and then a center line that works as an emergency stop (let go of the bar and it will deflate and come down easy) as well as the added benefit of when it crashes face down, I can relaunch without help. Took some time to get used to it, I may have gotten dragged once or twice haha. Before long I was able to keep it aloft for a bit atleast, doing some figure 8s in the sky, eventually able to do full circles so I could untwist it from a crash. Wind was probably averaging around 8 to 10 mph? I forgot to look. I flew it for around 45 minutes on and off, and it was definitely tiring! Good fun first day.
  24. Anyone do any kite sports? I decided to get myself an inexpensive trainer kite (Peter Lynn UNIQ 2.5) and just wondering what anyone else might do!
