  1. Edit: Thinking about that more, I've never ridden much with alpine stances so not really sure on that. I think the heelsides require more commitment to do them properly and with the 20m sidecut I tend to not want to commit to them as much when the runs are busy with how vulnerable you are to getting hit from behind vs doing more toesides (regular and switch) where it's super easy to look up the hill for missiles.
  2. Yep, Latigo, Centennial, to 1876 is my go to once it's groomed.
  3. I'm not sure if there are any wider boards out there, but my 33.5cm waist width Donek is working with my 11.5 boots perfectly. 156cm Donek Knapton Twin 20m sidecut, 33.5cm waist width 33.9cm underfoot, extra stiff. Insta360 camera (sorry in advance for the poor video quality)
  4. Coverage is great on the groomed runs, still rock board conditions in the trees and moguls.
  5. Yep, Knapton Twin. Ryan's on a 19.5m radius x 156cm these days, I was lucky enough to get a couple runs on his last season before ordering mine so I knew what to expect (also decided to get mine about 10% stiffer). The shorter length and wider stance width makes noseroll 3s quite a bit more effortless than on my previous boards. The extra clearance width of it let's me push it harder in carves so with tight, high inclination (non laid down, no snow touch) turns it decambers to more of like a 12m turn. If I do euro knapton style laydowns it turns at the full 20m radius depending on how much edge pressure I put on it. It rides great, don't have much videos of me riding it yet but here are a few selfie stick clips (will need to ride with someone that can film at some point to see it turning better as selfie stick videos aren't very good for that and holding the stick can be awkward for spins). Specs 156cm x 33.5cm waist width, 33.9cm underfoot, 20m sidecut, extra stiff.
  6. I noticed a pretty big improvement in stability at speed when I went from a 16m to 20m sidecut radius, even though I dropped the length to a 156 from 158. Although the increase in stiffness and width on that new board might also have had something to do with it. I think it all depends on what kind of riding speed you want, I noticed I have to go faster to carve with the same edge angles and inclination as before on the 16m and it ends up with me having a faster overall speed then some of my friends riding on a 12-14m radius sidecut. They end up getting in more turns per run but I end up getting in more runs. It does however work much better for me keeping up with my wife when she is on skis making medium radius carved turns going 30mph.
  7. Me enjoying some BC groomers the other day, with the big storm moving through might be a bit till its firm enough for my liking again. Grooming has been suspect but hopefully things get leveled out a bit better after the cats make more passes over all the new terrain they just opened.
  8. https://fb.watch/hhXo-1y8C9/?mibextid=NnVzG8 Maybe worth watching, maybe not. Me adjusting to my new donek board on afternoon choppy runs (156cm, 33.5cm waist width, 20m sidecut, extra stiff).
  9. Yep we are aware of the really bad air quality down by SLC and Provo. Noticed it when we first started looking at houses in the area. Luckily (from what we noticed) the bad air quality and inversion layer smog doesn't make it over the mountains to the wasatch back area/Heber. Rode early season PCMR, grooming and trails seemed good enough for me (although I will miss the super long season at Breck). Too bad the closest resort (deer valley) doesn't allow snowboarders, hopefully Mayflower does when it opens in the next few years.
  10. Thread bump, thinking of moving to Heber City from Colorado (Summit and Eagle counties are no longer affordable for me). Planning on checking out the area and park city this weekend. Are the runs there any good for carving? Is the grooming at Sundance any good? Looks like they have night riding some nights which would be nice. Is the community welcoming to non religious people? We are also kitesurfers so Heber City being near Deer Creek reservoir is a big plus.
  11. Yep, I think it will be fine since the similar 19.5 sidecut one I rode was easy enough to decamber into tighter turns when needed, but if it's too much for my resorts I'll just use it as my snowkiting board where a bigger radius locks in much better and avoids speed wobble (I think Kessler made a few 80m or so sidecut boards for the redbull race snowkiters in Norway.
  12. Ouch, it looks like he is testing his luck in that video. You can see in some of the turns he locks the edges in and they happen quick and look normal, but other ones when he is laying down he's sliding down the hill and his edges are bouncing in and out of the snow. IMHO, laydown carves (especially the heelsides) probably shouldn't happen unless the snow is perfect and you can lock the edge in and skim your but on the snow (and get out of it) while leaving a deep clean track and not touching the snow with your hands. I also learned them initially a few years ago with not the best technique but I don't mess around with them these days unless the snow is just right for them and the edge locks in and leaves a deep carved track and rooster tail. They are fun then to feel the gforces on the board when it decambers but it's pretty rare to have snow that can support the forces at those edge angles. Yep, don't pat the dog or it might bite you.
  13. Thanks, I did the graphics design so I think it was about an extra $85, they can design graphics for you as well but that gets more expensive. I've done a few of them that way, it's fun when you get to be on your own snowboard . Top part of the graphic is Vail last season on the super crowded day converted into everyone storming the castle / lift , then me walking through a dr strange portal and getting the whole run to myself on the bottom.
  14. Donek knapton twin 156cm, 20m sidecut, 33.5cm waist width (maxed out their press for width). Have not ridden it yet but did one run on a similar 156cm 19.5m sidecut that was 32.2cm waist width (I think, don't remember exact number). Previous board was a 158cm, 16m sidecut, 32cm waist width.
  15. DPS phantom, I've used it since the Kickstarter in 2017/2018 on all my boards since then, about a million+ vert average every season since then and never waxed my boards wiith it. V2.0 offered some nice improvements and first thing I do anytime I get a new Donek board when it's never been waxed is apply DPS phantom before riding it (REI and many other shops have the UV cure box and can apply it).
  16. The carving softboot scene over there looks so rad, would be awesome to have like 20 snowboard carvers all hanging out and taking turns tearing up a run in CO like that one day.
  17. I tried a traditional ski bike, wasn't at all like mountain biking, I think having prior mountain biking experience probably made it harder. This version looks much easier to carve though with the feet being closer to the board vs higher up in the pegs.
  18. Any weekday arrowhead carvers here? Usually lap arrow bahn 11ish to noon on my lunch break.
  19. I can see bringing in the back knee for extra toeside ground clearance but have no idea why anyone would do that on a heelside.
  20. I was out there last Sunday, saw one other softboot carver (wearing a green jacket with a green topsheet Donek), and one hardboot carver later in the day at arrowhead. Snow was excellent in the afternoon once the sun came out.
  21. I taught my friend how to snowboard so he only went straight to carving and now after only 2-3 seasons he tried one of my super wide ones and is about to order his own. He commented it was actually way easier to carve and a "cheater board" for carving because skidded turns were harder for him to do on it vs carving. If you can cleanly carve on a low angle green leaving a thin track its not hard to switch to a wide Donek (for carving). The freestyle butter tricks take a long time to learn / adapt to the wide board as they are a lot easier on narrow flexy boards.
  22. I ran now overdrives for two seasons, they are good for aggressive carving but would dig into the outside of my ankle when doing butters and nose / tail rolls. Switched to the now drives JJ edition and have been happy with those for all riding. Also if you run overdrives make sure to occasionally check the heelcup connection areas for cracks.
  23. Another good variation to that is laying on your stomach left arm up right leg up, then right arm up left leg up. Then both legs and arms up. So only your waist touches the ground.
  24. I'm on 11.5's, before getting custom boards I tried like 45 in front/back to try to get rid of most of the overhang but it was terrible, boots were way too soft side to side. Now I ride 15, -15, but on a 32cm waist board so overhang isn't an issue. My thoughts now on it is that if you're really into carving, boots should never overhang ...hardboots or softboots... When surfing/wakeboarding/kiteboarding your board is always way wider than your feet.
