  1. Sunshine Fat Tuesday sale has started: $400 for adult spring pass / $250 seniors. Also adult $300 midweek (M-Th). Lake Louise midweek pass is on for $350, effective earlier I think.
  2. CBC is covering the World Cup races at Blue Mountain. Feb 29 PGS March 1 PSL
  3. Much more difficult all right. I suspect if there was a bio on alpine riders something else would distinguish them from the general population. There is a ski racing and performance skier crowd at Nakiska that loves to watch the trench digging under the chair. Many ask about it but it seems to end there. Telemark had an arc. It was difficult on 3 pin bindings (skinny skis), became easier with cables and harder/easier with the heavyweight NTN, depending on your background. Then Dynafit's tech patent expired.
  4. Steering. MCC in the morning called for some assertiveness to negotiate the pitch and width of some of the runs. But MCC in the afternoon led to an unexpected journey into a cloud chamber of spiralling ruts. I miss it already.
  5. Didn't see that coming. Duret has kept making them all along. Faction produced one with an early rise a few years ago and is coming back with a couple lengths. There's less point to them with rockered skis today but they are fun in moguls. The movement is more like paddling a whitewater kayak than skiing to me. Carving is doable but you have to lift the opposite edge as you roll onto the outside of your foot. Oldies like Tua (before they made telemark skis) and Rossignol had a huge taper and no sidecut at all. Reminds me of the Avalanche ironing boards somehow. Aluflex has a cool one:
  6. Do a search on Duret (a French brand) and Calgary. He sells new/used monoskis and can answer any questions about it. One does ski them long, ~190cm.
  7. I only hot wax and roto brush skis. On boards I have been using Swix fluoro paste/spray or Zardoz, originally in the spring but now all winter. Daron Rahlves has a signature Wend paste too.
  8. Better than me! And you have a good story about crushing your phone,.. . Soft parts: thumb, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, knee, head, neck Hard parts: tib-tib/fib, tib-tib/fib, ribs (while holding my breath hooked in under a windsurfing sail)
  9. Some critters for the mix: http://www.launsteinimagery.com/galleries/awarded-images/
  10. I had good results using Marine-Tex for blown sidewalls and punched up top sheet. I had to drill some small relief holes and clamp it back to shape. Although somewhat flexible it is nearly impossible to sand or file so let it set against a polyethylene strip which you can peel off for a smooth surface.
  11. It's been particularly crowded Saturdays with only a couple runs open so get there early. The Silver opens tomorrow which will help but there is no snow under the chair yet. Good coverage off the Gold Chair though.
  12. Performer Elite as well. Hiked up the Robertson glacier in Sorels that summer and ate it all the way down to the valley. Quite a thing that a young guy would manufacture and promote his vision around the world.
  13. Very interesting. Terrific video on their website too but not sure what board they used.
  14. Jean jacket weather in the prairies. A bucket full of fresh ice water is not much below 0 deg C, ...Unless it's ice cream headache Slurpee water.
  15. Probably both, plus talent. Check out this recovery and landing,.....
  16. ProMotion wetsuits (Hood River) makes 2mm neoprene shorts that go down over your knees. They'll extend over a wet lift seat and fit under your regular clothes,.... unless you want to look like that.
  17. Blocky script is Korean as is her name. J2EX is a media company so the video may not be geared to our audience. Here’s another clip of her riding in any event: That said, the Japanese do take their instruction seriously. This lesson is just what I could squeeze in the frame.
  18. Good conditions at Nakiska today (and Sunshine a couple days ago). Snow and cold in the forecast for tomorrow but that might keep down the crowds.
  19. https://www.cbc.ca/sports/olympics/ester-ledecka-continues-multi-sport-success-1.4949048 A little coverage from the CBC
  20. (aka wantok but I had web problems) 175 cm, 167-118-153 mm: $300 + shipping Volkl plate binding included, good condition but too much gear!
