  1. Bump. $1200 board, new last season, very good condition with only 25 days on it for $500.

    Weekend effect

Maybe some (or most) of the weekend participants feel that they can’t come out to play during the week due to time constraints and responsibilities (which leads to stress), and so are grimly determined to have fun on the weekends. They could be carrying all that baggage accumulated during the week around with them. Which would make anyone cranky.
  3. straightliners; they seem to be more prevalent night skiing at Meadows than during the day.
  4. I wear a back/spine protector for night skiing at Mt Hood Meadows, seems to be a higher idiot factor at night vs the daytime. Daytime I leave it in the car for all but the coldest days, then it can provide some nice insulation against the lift seat backs and wind.
  5. Sorry, I no longer have those bindings, switched over to F2's early last season and sold all my TD3s and associated parts. I've updated the original post to reflect this, apologies for the ambiguity.
  6. Only Sean Martin knows for sure, and he's not telling. It's based on the construction of his Secret race boards, the non-metal (but not fiberglass) alternative to the Rev. Sean used that same construction but likely with less or thinner layers of whatever it is that makes the race boards so very damp. Quote from the Donek Secret race board page https://www.donek.com/product/secret/#topsheet:
  7. The SBC liners were in a topic from a couple of years ago
  8. Thanks. I asked Sean to build it for 165 lbs, but since Donek's build weights seem to be more of a minimum rider weight, the suitable rider weight range is probably more like 165-185.
  9. Buy this at the posted $500 shipped CONUS price and I'll donate $25 back to ASB. Make this go away, I have boards and bindings to pay for! The only reason I can think of that this board hasn't sold yet is the relatively narrow waist, but at 18.5cm it's wider than an MK's 18cm waist...
  10. The sidecar passengers are listed as "co-driver", but colloquially known as the "monkey". For some pretty cool shots, see: http://www.testpilotwear.com.php56-17.dfw3-1.websitetestlink.com/blog/the-sidecar-monkey/
  11. Raichle boots morphed into Deeluxe, Donek carries them. UPZ distributor is based in Canada, but I believe he maintains stock in a warehouse in the US as well, so no cross-border shipping hassles. Very good customer service. If you’re nostalgic, rich, or looking for a even higher-performance alternative to the other two boot options, mountainslope has resurrected the .950 as the .951. Haven’t tried them, all reviews are overwhelmingly positive.
  12. Going by the size chart listed on the UPZ reseller site, the 287mm shell is for the mp 26-26.5 boot. This matches up with my 2017 mp26 RC10s, which have the same ""5,5 /6/6,5 266/287 mm" on the shell.
  13. I wonder if some of the locals are envisioning a horde of park rats descending upon their town, or if they're aware of the difference in the demographic with alpine boarders? "Excited" might not be the proper term if they're expecting the former...
  14. A quick update: the North American distributor for UPZ boots has started carrying the SG bindings, so it looks like the pricing has come down to something (relatively) closer to the standard F2 Race Titanium bindings. http://upzboots.com/shop/sg-performance-race-bail/
  15. Bump for a price drop to $500 shipped within the CONUS.
  16. Motivated to sell this board, I have a Thirst SF on the way that I need to make room for. Replacing it with a pimped-out SF due to the difference in riding styles between Thirsts and this board, this Donek liked to have the nose weighted when initiating turns, and the Thirsts all like the rider to remain centered during the entire turn. It was too weird switching back and forth from the Thirst->Donek->Thirst... This board is a blast to ride: fast, turny, and damp, but not twitchy. Could ride it flat at speed without qualms, not hooky at all. Very well mannered, it will do anything you ask of it at any speed, with really good edge hold that must come from the Secret construction. It will crank turns as hard as you will ask of it, but is happy with larger turns as well with the 10.5 SCR in the tail. Can also predictably feather turns at high speed, it was like drifting the rear wheel on a dirt bike, would hang out until you gave it a shot, at which time it would hook up predictably again.
  17. Some of my favourite steeps riding to watch is this guy, especially at around 2:19 and 3:09:
  18. Scraped off the storage wax today, uploading base and edge pics. Storage wax will go back in a couple of days in case anyone wants some addt'l pics of a specific area.
  19. Think you need to have a subscription to be able to post images now. @Jack Michaud can confirm.
  20. Thanks, it got a lot of compliments on the lift, even skiers liked it...
  21. For sale is a Donek FC Secret 167cm, bought directly from Donek in October 2017. I had originally contacted Sean about ordering a MetalFC, but then we decided to build an FC with the Secret construction instead. $500 shipped within the CONUS, Paypal only please. If sold at that price I will donate $25 back to ASB. Sean invoiced this board as equivalent to a MetalFC, so this is less than 1/2 price from when new. Board only, TD3's not included (I no longer have the bindings, sold them last year). 167 cm, 18.5 cm waist, 8.5m-10.5m sidecut Built for a 165 lb. rider, and the inserts are at a 49cm reference stance. Topsheet and edges are 9/10, base is 8/10. This board probably has around 25 days on it. The board has never been ground, but I did have a tech fill in a couple of minor scratches prior to putting a coating of storage wax on it at the end of the season; the scratches were only about twice the depth of the structure, no core shots. I had originally asked the tech to give it a base grind, but he said the scratches were minor enough that a ptex repair was a better way to go. Topsheet has no scratches, but does have a couple of nicks on the edge as shown in one of the attachments. If you're curious about how it rides, here's a review from @snowjob of his 180 cm version of an FC Secret (this is not my board), it matches up my impressions of my 167. http://forums.alpinesnowboarder.com/topic/45822-donek-180-freecarve-with-secret-construction/ Once I get any inquiries, I'll scrape off the storage wax and send some high-res pics of the base.
  22. Doh. You’re right, bad analogy on my part. Target archery (especially fixed-distance FITA style like 70m) is very much a “closed set” skill where you try to perform the same action exactly the same way every time, like free-throw in basketball. Makes it excruciatingly boring as a spectator sport. Think Jack’s got it right: short, medium, and long. I’d try to pick the short board so that it’s also good on the icy days, long board (bigger SCR) == speed + ice seems like a good recipe for a concussion.
  23. Back when I shot archery competitively (70 meter olympic recurve), the saying was "watch out for the person who only owns one bow". That person would have spent 1000s of hours with just that one piece of equipment and their proprioceptive system would be one with the bow, but the person who owned more than one would often tend to have more than two, and never really reach their full potential with any one of them.
  24. @Keenan thanks for checking, the “other shop” has already done the minor ptex repairs and storage wax on the board, so I’ll just leave it at that. It’s the Donek FC/Secret I bought at the start of the season, was prepping it for resale in Aug or September, it’s probably a toss-up what’s more attractive to a potential buyer: a fresh base grind or pretty minor ptex repairs. The tech said the repairs came out so well and the structure that Donek put on it when new last fall was still so nice that he was reluctant to grind and restructure it. @Donek: he was really impressed with the craftsmanship that went into the board.
  25. Was planning on using the industrial version Velcro, I’ve used it on a stomp pad on another board and the pad never budged, but could be pulled off if you started from a corner. Makes it easy to stack boards for travel as well, pull of the stomp pads on all but one board and throw them in with the bindings, just reattach when you get there. Step on it once and it’s good. Wish I’d done it to this board. VELCRO Brand - Industrial Strength - 2" Wide Tape, 4' - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IC2U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_ByLZgcqBeeHLe
