  1. Agree with Jack. Reaching for snow is bad form (hard not to do when you think your chin is going to eat it). Let the snow come to you. Best sensation for me is when the snow graze the body/knee/hand(effleurer in French is a better word, can't find the translation, EDIT hover is good) without pressure and you're just floating above the cords.
  2. Coming please. Family surgery got postponed. When was the last time you got exited at postponed surgery.

  4. http://www.skiboardsonline.com/vbulletin/upload/showthread.php?t=9299 That would be a LOT of the white stuff.
  5. Go for it, push it lower. Worst that can happen is you slidding off into the bush. You're already against the ground so falling won't hurt much!!! I hate pain:eek: Got to try the Plasti-Dip. Thanks for the tip.
  6. I'm not quite that old but started on the Bic one with the tie on boom and dacron sail, that was a long time ago now!
  7. They've been producing windsurfing boards since the dark ages. Their landmark board is the 1986 or so Sunset Slalom. Bruce V would know all about this!
  8. The Flow website has a stiffness comparison chart for all their bindings. Got a pair of Flow NXT AT this year to go with the Swoard Dual, and I'm loving it. For the small hills around us, Flow is the way to go, don't want to spend all day putting on bindings. Carving hard this morning and yesterday at Brimacombe on the man made stuff and loving it. The forward flex is all boots/ankle. Very nice surfy feel. They seems to be solidly built. My 2 cents.
  9. I would normally post this on the racing forum, but it's not often that hardboots gets front page, even less often front page of Canada's biggest paper: http://www.thestar.com/olympics/2010/article/748006--snowboard-wizards-aim-to-turn-carbon-into-gold?bn=1 Interesting article too about secret sauce. Check the video link also (does not work with Firefox unless you use IE tab plugin etc...). http://www.thestar.com/videozone/747896
  10. Just throwing my 2 cents in. I'm not a softbooter, never were, so take my opinion with a grain of salt! Why not consider the Swoard Dual? Downside (or up if you're in UT powder): even larger and costlier that the roadster. Upside: designed to carry both hardboot and softboot bindings at pretty much any angles, you can still get into EC when needed too without booting out. And from personal experience, the Dual carves great even on hard snow (as tried last week here in Ontario in softies). In comparison, I have the F2 Roadster sitting idle in the garage waiting for my son to be tall enough to try. Edgehold on the Roadster is non existant in comparison, great board to start hardbooting on though, esp. at that price!
  11. Good luck trying to find skiboards or Bomber bindings for skiboard in shops skiboardsonline is the place to be. No different than trying to find carving boards in shops
  12. We could see your points, I'm not sure you're seeing the other side. It's about prioritizing what's giving you most pleasure in life depending on your available cash. If you don't spend $100/month on cable TV (check), $50-100/month on a cell phone/iPhone (check), 1080p TV (check), fancy wheels/car (check), you could probably move that cash to a new board in less than a year. Does Timex giving time? Does a Rolex give you time and beauty/pleasure ? Can you watch 'Grey's Anatomy' on a cathode tube TV or are you deriving more pleasure from 1080p? Having fun on Mistral Equipe, having more fun perhaps on a CarbonArt? There are things I don't care about as long as functional. There are other things that don't necessarily make me a better snowboarder but give a lot of pleasure riding or even looking at at home. And for those, I thank the custom and semi-custom builders and am willing to pay the price.
  13. Everyone has an opinion and that's fine. However, a sign of a good physician/health care provider is to know when to refer/when things are beyond your scope of practice, and separate personal opinion/belief and professional responsibilities. I don't own any share of drug companies, I don't get any kickback from drug companies. I don't sleep with the pretty drug reps. I rather not give the vaccine myself and let Public Health handle it all (and the kids would love me much more:1luvu:). However, it is part of the job. I do refer my patients to chiropractors and naturopaths when appropriate. Interesting that positions of the canadian chiropractors is somewhat different than their american counterparts on vaccination issues (canadians support officially, americans are on the fence) http://www.chiropracticcanada.ca/en-us/AboutUs/TheCCA/PositionStatements/VaccinationandImmunization.aspx The CCA accepts vaccination as a cost-effective and clinically efficient public health preventative procedure for certain viral and microbial diseases, as demonstrated by the scientific community. The public responsibility for vaccination and immunization is neither within the chiropractic scope of practice, nor a chiropractic specific issue. Public health programming and literature provide appropriate sources of information for patient education regarding vaccination and immunization. American position: As of 1998, the official policy of the ACA regarding vaccination reads as follows (that of the ICA being practically identical): "Resolved, that the ACA recognize and advise the public that: Since the scientific community acknowledges that the use of vaccines is not without risk, the American Chiropractic Association supports each individual's right to freedom of choice in his/her own health care based on an informed awareness of the benefits and possible adverse effects of vaccination. The ACA is supportive of a conscience clause or waiver in compulsory vaccination laws thereby maintaining an individual's right to freedom of choice in health care matters and providing an alternative/elective course of action regarding vaccination." (Available at: www.amerchiro.org/shared/pub-poli.htm.) Anyway, more food for thoughts...I'm not a black and white type of guy, so the more discussion, the better.
  14. Not sure about the numbers in the state. Locally, or in Canada, we don't test for H1N1 /influenza in the community. However those who are sick enough to get admitted ( and you have to be pretty sick to be admitted up here), do get tested for H1N1 or regular influenza. So far it's been over 90% H1N1. Problem to say that H1N1 causing the death is you have to remember that influenza does not necessarily cause death (although H1N1 seems to be at times, hitting the lungs harder than usual), but more often, as for many viral illnesses, it suppresses your natural immunity and it's the secondary bacterial infections /complications of ventilation etc...that kills. The big producers of vaccine are making $$$ out of the H1N1. However, if you own mutual funds, there is a chance you are also making money. The day where we have everything open source and not-for-profit, the world will be an infinitely better place.
  15. Dr. D, by the way I completely agree with you that's it's all about the money, with a slightly different slant. A lot more money should be used to prevent/treat malaria, cholera, hunger, children death. However third world country/people don't have the money to pay, so there is no interest there. Instead it's about preventing diseases of the rich (wrinkles, cholesterol and diabetes in particular). H1N1 if mutating to a more nasty form, we'd be in for potential disaster money or not. Having gone through SARS around the Toronto area, we don't want a repeat. Unfortunately/fortunately H1N1 is not too nasty so the vaccine seems like overkill, but is it? When is the snow coming so we can ride instead of type?
  16. Children: http://www.euro.who.int/influenza/AH1N1/20091202_1 H1N1 vs. 'regular' flu http://www.who.int/csr/disease/swineflu/laboratory04_12_2009/en/index.html http://www.who.int/csr/don/2009_12_04/en/index.html This PDF is interesting, if you look at Canada. http://new.paho.org/hq/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=3783&Itemid= 50/50 men/women Severe illness with admission (4800 cases of hospital admission and confirmed H1N1): median age 27 and 50% are otherwise healthy Death 192: median age 54 and ~30 % are otherwise healthy (~60% have another illness that presumably increase their risks). Vaccine side effects: http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/alert-alerte/h1n1/vacc/addeve-eng.php Severe reaction (+/- admission): 135, anaphylaxis 48, death from anaphylaxis 1. One might argue what about long term problem with flu shot? One might also argue what long term effect with hospitalization/ventilation? So for most people on this board reading this post, chances are you're not going to die from it. But looking at 5000 admission for an otherwise relatively young and healthy looking group, you're probably going to feel pretty sick even if you don't need admission Again, if you are an olympian reading this, you can't afford to be sick during or just before competition (esp. when thousands of people are gathered in relatively close quarters). You see this at every winter olympics and just shake your head that so and so can't compete because of the flu. Hope that helps
  17. To be balanced, you should also post all the people that either died from H1N1, or that are admitted for O2 or ventilator (with or without sequelae), they don't usually get the benefit of the media or youtube. And if you start asking around, there should be plenty of those... Balance, it's all about balance...when you start riding the board.

Today had snow squall warning but no snow. Just 2C and 25+ knots wind. I wore a 5/3 steamer under a drysuit and it was just toasty!

Went carving today in balmy 2C...on water.:)
  20. You guys crack me up. Arguing whether the flu shot or the flu is dangerous, meanwhile, you are trying to get your friends and family tied up to a carving board to slide down a hill. I chose to agree to disagree on this topic. Do what you think is best for you and what is best for those around you. And most importantly do no harm. Cheers.

WHISTLER BLACKCOMB SMASHES 30-YEAR RECORD FOR SNOWIEST MONTH EVER WITH OVER 5.5 METRES (18 FEET) OF SNOWFALL Visit the Whistler Blackcomb Photo Gallery As the calendar flips over to December, it's now official that November 2009 will go down in history as the snowiest month on record at Whistler Blackcomb, dating back to when the collection of weather data began 30 years ago. November 2009 has seen a total accumulation of 560cm (18 feet) of snowfall, nearly four times that of November's average snowfall of 148cm (58 inches). And now, with the record broken, there is still an entire season of skiing and riding to look forward to. With a season that offers 192 days of skiing and riding, Whistler Blackcomb is already over half way towards the resort's average annual snowfall of just over 10 metres (33 feet). Supposed to go windsurfing this week...a first for me in December around here. Last year I was windsurfing in the first snow storm but the water was still 15C and it was early November.
  23. After watching Bruce slave away at shaping the core. The core itself should sell for more than $1000 at an Art gallery...
  24. Thanks for the info. Cool shape for the board. Would it still work on ice as we tend to go on mix snow/ice around here on frozen lakes. Sounds like if you use a VERY used board, although not the banana shape, it might be better than a fully cambered board for kiting??
