  1. I feel like such an addict. I am looking into buying a kiteboarding setup (i live a few blocks from lake michigan and am tired of wishing i had one whenever i bring my dog to the beach) and am curious about what size kite i should get. I am looking at a 11m kite, but feel that that may not be enough kite for a 150 lb person in winds that are generally moderate. Any thoughts?
  2. Lat/long: 37.233 N, 115.817 W i thought the only picture of the place was from a russian spy satelite
  3. ive been riding with colavito @ MHSSC MHSSC for two summers now, great way to go about a summer race camp.
  4. i can just see the first snowboard wax lawsuit... Zardoz sued by individual injured after falling at unexpected high speeds.
  5. i think that you are going to find that the brake is no longer necessary after about a month of riding. you know that it's time to take it off when you are trying to find somewhere to attach it while you're riding. (pocket, velcro, etc.) But it will save you from a lot of wrecks in the begining.
  6. they have a flow rider at the kalahari resort in the wisconsin dells. I ventured in there on a climbing trip last fall to discover this fact, and even better was the fact that i had come for the right time to ride standing up. I signed my waver and proceeded to wait in line behind all of the other dells vacationers, many of which appeared to have never been 'on-board' in their entire lives. it would have been a lot better if there was not a 15 min wait for a 2 min ride, but it was still a lot of fun. i would compare it more to a combination of skimboarding and wake boarding than to surfing, and i think that the boards are even made by a wakeboarding company. The power of the water coming at you is amazing, and i wouldnt want to fall the wrong way (it seemed to me that a chlorinated water enema was not at all out of the question). All in all, it was fun, but you should find a time when you can get some serious time in on one, because waiting in lines suck.
  7. i murdered thgis season with 9 inches of super fluffy powder that resulted in an extension to my trip at copper.
  8. that board is amazing, i have never seen anything like it!
  9. It has been my experience that skier turns were tougher on the legs, but i also notice that there is much more time in a recovery stage throughout the turn.
  10. the oxygen is the correct tool for the job. i ride a 170 LTD for GS, and have been making ideal slalom turns on it latley. I rode a Volkl earlier this season after riding my Oxygen for a few hours and felt like i was riding a freight train downhill. The Volkl was the most stabel board i had been on, but i prefer to take the chop with my legs and body and be able to have instant edge response.
  11. I was surfing Blue Tomato when I discovered Drake's 04-05 alpine bindings. I have to say, of all the companies that I didnt expect to see an alpine binding from, Drake would've been one of the top five. Take a look and see for yourself.
  12. I was watching my 2004 Expression session DVD when I thought to myself, "Dude, what's with all the porno music?" so my question is, will the 2005 DVD also be a bummer in terms of the soundtrack or will we be hearing some improvement?
  13. my boss told me about plans for a recall on these bindings almost a year ago- i guess they just had to wait until they could make enough replacements

    ski boards

didnt have any problem with them last weekend after the mercury hit 55
  15. you cant afford it or dont value the change enough? I have been making this excuse for a few seasons now, but I still find myself dropping $200-400 on new/used equipment each season, be it apparel and gear. I have to say though, i got out on a flow frestyle demo a week or two ago and am seriously considering getting myself a frestyle setup and chillin' with the park rats on the less carvable days(i do anyway, but only one the days where i know im not going to have any fun simply carving turns on my alpine board) on another note, the parting shot in this months Transworld is of Greenwood gettin mad air in the pipe on his race board. the caption that went with it was the typical transworld babble, but it was a quite inspiring picture.
  16. my condolences bro, i broke a board at the end of last season and wished that it wasnt my fault for doing somthing stupid. goold luck getting the gut to pay for it.
  17. now there's an acident worth stopping for...
  18. ...and are combined with the snowboarders and the disabled individuals for the finals competition. I won in finals, but the gut on the top of the podium was a telemarker:confused: anyway, it's still a lot of fun for someone who isnt fully into racing but still likes going fast
  19. This past saturday at Tyrol Basin in Mt. Horeb, WI, I was competing in a boardercross race and riding with a few friends after the race. We were riding the lift when a skier took off of the big air (25-30 footer, broke my board on it last season) with WAY too much speed. About the moment he realized that his landing was going to be nowhere near the landing ramp he did the "mid air freak out", tweaking his body in all directions. When he hit, probbably a vert drop of 15-20 ft at full speed, he somehow landed on his feet, but then proceeded to roll like a rag doll 3 or 4 times. When I went past him on the lift, some one was standing over him yelling for ski patrol while he was convulsing face down in the snow, his gear scatered at least 15 ft away from itself in full yard sale fashion, including several parts of his broken ski bindings. Within minuets ski patroll had him on Oxygen and surrounded by 10 people and 4 snowmobiles. 15 min later an ambulance was rolling up, 10 min after that the life-flight helicopter landed. after 20 min of working on the individual on the ground, the helicopter finally took off. The individual was not wearing a helmit, and ski patrol was canvasing the lift lines for witnesses that saw him land. What is the worst snow-related accident you have ever seen?
  20. yes, but that looks like it would be a lot of fu down a big hill, except for the possibility of a couple high speed rolls.
  21. because there hasnt been anyone around afterwards to tell us about it it
  22. look at it this way, your snowboarding age does not corespond to your actual age- count the number of years you have been 'on board' and you might be younger than many of the people on the results list.
  23. i prefer the USASA stomp pads i got at nationals. theu scrape off the ice well and give good traction when needed.
  24. i also race BX on hard plates. the landings seem easier and more stable than with softies, and making turns is also that much easier. At tyrol basin i am the only actual racer in my age group, so edging people out isnt too tough. i heard somewhere that the plastic and ductape method wasnt acceptable, but then again it does fill the requirements of 603.
