  1. I ride more bumps now than ever. All mountain board for me works best. Not to get off topic but remember the euro guy in Snowboarders In Exile that was the mogul champion? Moguls used to be a competitive sport in snowboarding! And this guy could bang the hell out of them. Auther Auey? something like that. Thank, God that phase is over. Steep groomers are the way to go! or mellow groomers very very fast.
  2. Yes! Sounds great! And the Olympics should be over by then. I'll keep posted. And save my money too! Thank you, Shane!
  3. It was minus 13 at Lookout Pass this morning. The employees said they will be closed due to the cold and wind chill. We should get some fresh snow in a few weeks hopefully. I have a weekday pass to Snowbowl. so far they only have the t-bar running.
  4. It was cold. like 8 degrees with some wind. no new snow, but the groomers were in good shape. Wasn't too busy for a Sun. either. Just thought I would let you all know how the conditions are up there. Talk to you later! Ed
  5. I finally made it to the mountain. Getting some turns in felt good. It was cold. 8 degrees with some wind. Pretty good coverage for early season. No new snow. The groomers were in good shape too. Saw your picture on the instructors board, Kathy! Talk to you later! Ed
  6. Hi, once the Thanksgiving weekend is over, I'll be back in Missoula and ready for some snow pack to build up a bit. I'm waiting, but ready to go!
  7. I love those Palmer plates under my clicker bindings since they are so low anyway. they do help get more leverage for carving and quicker edge to edge. Where do you draw the line to what is too tall. Some plate bindings, especially the TDs are already high enough to me. oh, what am I saying? how do I know? I'm so stuck in the past!
  8. looked pretty good to me. except that liftline photo. yikes! Still wish I could have been there. Naturally, I'm envious again. Lookout Pass opens tomorrow though! but I'll be working.
  9. I was planning on purchasing the Frequent Sky Card to ride the opening 1st week starting on Nov. 29th and the closing week of April 5th. I wanted to ask if there is anyone able near Big Sky that I could stay with when I visit the area. I would be happy to crash on your couch and help you with groceries or dining out. Or if anyone else is interested we could consider sharing the lodging. Deadline is Oct. 31st. Its only $79! for 2 weeks at Big Sky. I can't pass it up. I hope it can work out. Thank you, Ed Nolder
  10. Depends on how valuable your brain is to you. And in that case, maybe you should consider wearing a cup to protect your figs too. Last year I slipped getting ready to load the Magic Mile chair at Timberline and really slammed the back of my head. I was shook up for 2 days with a mild concussion. Long story short. I am so glad I was wearing my helmet. Cant beat a helmet in all conditions, especially stormy days.
  11. Personally, the Krypton Pros seem like they would work well for racing. And I've always thought the Flexon comps would also work. And I do remember seeing racers using them years ago. A centimeter of toe drag could be the only obvious con. And I prefer a softer flexing boot thats more forgiving for all-mountain use. So my opinion is a bit biased. A race ski boot with a 120 flex seems stiff to me. But with all the boots out there also think about the Full Tilts, and the park/jib ski boots made by other companies. AT boots are looking useful too. The forward lean on a ski boot compared to a hard shell snowboard boot seems too upright and rigid. When I used to ride with my Nordica's, I only latched the top 2 buckles and not clamped them down.
  12. Bryan, I've witnessed you carving a 360 lots of times. On your raceboards and on the SCX's. With Ron Fujii right behind you. Remember those days? Oh, the memories! Ed:biggthump
  13. Hi Dave - yeah, I liked the Rossi a lot. It was fun to ride. Pretty forgiving too. I would have liked to keep it. But wondered if I would ride it much more, since I got a new Donek. Had to sacrifice selling it. I hope Jim enjoys it. Overall, the Rossi is a wonderful all-around longboard. Ed
  14. I ride a 23" stance. And I've ran into this problem too. It must mean many boards are not made for guys with big cahones like us. I've had heli-coils installed 1 inch forward and 1 inch behind the insert packs. That helped me get an additional 2 inches I needed so I could ride my boards like a man. lol When I removed my bindings off my Rossi 190, I did notice that the coils were starting to pull out somewhat. I don't own that board anymore. And I think the new owner rode a tighter stance anyway. not a problem. My other board with heli-coils installed is a Volant race 172. I still have it. No sign of pull out. But I don't ride it anymore. Greg @ Hillcrest Sports in Gresham, Oregon did the installation on both boards. It only cost $9 per heli-coil. Next time, I would have high-quality T-bolts done. Ed

    good beer

After moving from Portland, OR, which many experts say is the beer capital of the world, I was ready to start drinking cheap beer again. But I found that Missoula has some great beers brewed here. And Montana in general has many quality breweries. I should probably start cutting back on the experimentation. But you know, life is too short to drink crappy beer. Bayern Pilsner Big Sky IPA Bitteroot IPA Bayern Dancing Trout PA are some of my favorites. And another reason I want to stay here in Missoula for much longer. Ed
  16. Hi guys - I'm just dropping in to say, hello. I was viewing the conditions over there. We are experiencing sort of the same warm up here in western Montana too. Optimistically, it will help get a better base. Glad to see that your snowpack is growing strong like normal. Missoula has been good to me so far. Its been almost 3 weeks already. Ive made it up to Snowbowl once a week so far. Pretty hardcore ski area. Never seen so many awesome skiers in one place. Do you like steep tree riding? This is your place. Looking forward to the next big powder day. I'll check the conditions over here from time to time. See you later, Ed
  17. Hi guys- I just moved from Portland, OR to Missoula. And I'll try to make it up there for the BMES. Maybe before and after too. I'm heading up to Montana Snowbowl tomorrow. Should be good. But I expect that the runs are better for race boards at BM than Snowbowl. I have'nt been to BM since the winter of 95'. I remember some great wide open groomers and sweet powder fields. My Donek may not get the attention it deserves until I get up there. Snowbowl is great but probably not as good for carving as BM. Anyway, I wanted to say hi. And let you all know I'm looking forward to meeting you some day and tearing it up. Ed
  18. The white 200 tanker kicked major ass! It wasn't too long except for one time when I got into some really tight trees. I shouldn't have followed those young skiers through the trees. I'm heading up tomorrow with a friend of Andrea's to Snowbowl. He is going to show me some secret stashes. I hope it all goes well. I'll let you know. More snow is expected tonite and I hope Oregon gets another blanket of snow for you all to enjoy. Well actually, I hope all the ski areas get lots of snow. We all deserve to ride the pow. Take Care. Ed Missoula is a great little city. Lots to explore and experience. thanks, Jack When I get up to BM I'll let you know Dr.D. when is the BM session anyway?
  19. Rode at Montana Snowbowl last Fri. 16 inches of new! Great ski area with fun steep terrain in many places. Its just what I was looking for in a home mountain, its only 16 miles from my house. Snowbowl needs a bit more snowpack to open the entire mountain. Its snowing hard up there today and should get 2-3 feet more by the end of the week. I'll keep you guys updated on how its going. Thanks for the responses. Ed
  20. Hi guys - I packed up and moved from Troutdale, OR to Missoula, MT. This is what happens when you go after "the girlfriend that got away" 15 years ago. Quit my job and left everything behind to make it happen. I've really moved over here and it is great so far. I love it. I'm heading up to Montana Snowbowl on Fri. and theres a chance that I'll be up at Whitefish for the carve fest later this season. I hope to make it if all goes well. http://www.montanasnowbowl.com/ I'll try to check back often and stay more active here on Bomber. Talk to you all later! Ed
  21. how much for the ironing board? Loooks kindy flexy. Nice board though. Could use it. But only looking and saving. I need one in this range. Thanks for putting it out there.
  22. $$$$ talks. B.S walks. Good riddance, Dave! Now maybe they can run resort that isn't about corporate greed, but about customer service. But really, why do I care?
  23. Today was misty with low visability. Palmer was on stand by. Sat. and Sun. will make up for today. Its shaping up nicely already. I'll have my 2-way on 13/20. And I'll try to be up at the top of Palmer at 9, 10 & 11. It could be exploring the snowfields time after noon. I mean high noon. opps, too much flame.
  24. Yes, how about we meet on the top of each hour or try to at the top of the Palmer lift. And its pretty easy to spot people if you are looking around. Weather should be pretty good. See you all there. Ed
  25. How are you guys and gals feeling about the next dates of the Summer season Carve get-together? In two weeks, June 15, 16, 17th? Everyone still getting fired up for a few more turns before hanging up the Spring parka? Theres still plenty of snow up there! And it is melting fast with the recent warm spell. http://www.timberlinelodge.com/ski_ride/conditions.php Go ahead and deflate that river inner tube, dude. And put those golf clubs away, Biff. The Snowperformance clinic will love your euro-carve hip dragging style, you animal! Or my favorite, the arm-flapping bird cordoroy attack. Ed
