  1. burton says alpine is dead, guess I'll go to my grave as a necromancer, (still riding 25 yr old stepins which should last me till I'm doddering so much I'll have to revert to 2 edges. I refuse to give up stepins and alpine style, especially as I approach geriatric status) burton said stepins suck, and they were partially right because all of burton's stepins did suck, including their newly revamped Device called stepon. Phantoms are awesome but development stopped at 30* so I won't use them, (gorilla stance hurts my hip and knee when I ride, aint gonna happen) rando boots are the way forward just like they were 30 yrs ago, still love my Nordica TR9s and SBH but they are heavy weight history ps thanks for inventing the high back John, but I gave those up in '89 because back country boots didn't need them and ratchet straps suck
  2. I sure would like to see more than a few seconds of chopped up drone footage some acoustic dampening at Cabinet Mt Brew pub would be nice
  3. I'd put the eldo up against the short tanker, the old steepwaters are more of a plank, the arbor steepwater is very similar, as is the 3800, and atomic radon comes close the nidecker escapes (174x23, 166x21.5) were my go to all mt carvers till I got the Thrirst, they're feeling negleted the last couple seasons. I've had 4 different eldos (all from Vashon) and 2 pairs of escapes ps all these boards on hardboots & plates, oldies but goodies
  4. nice, been wanting to see some of that drone footage
  5. This season, being a bit short for me, I've settled into a 2 board quiver, the whole 9yds including extra layers fits in my dakine bag. 172 Thirst BX. you might call this a "jack of all trades" but, if versatility is your main criteria, it is a master. Carves great in most conditions including afternoon harbor chop, variably frozen spring corn off piste ripping fall line bumps. Surfs pow easily up to 6-8ins, deeper than that I bust out 169 K2 eldo (duct tape graphics are the best vintage) not as surfy as my Arbor D70 koa(2nd choice for 2nd board), but eldo eats rough terrain way better and carves like the Madd BX. both boards carve switch nicely, I've given up skinny square tails which limited my Demo choices at MCC
  6. The most likely replacement for my aging BX that I'm wearing out
  7. Last day open, they say reopen April 9 when things calm down We'll see.
  8. If you still have it when I get back to work in a couple months...
  9. Location location location, we,re 2hr from home staying in the RV Keeping our social distance .
  10. 49*north open, BYOB eat in your car, bathroom and lifts only, snowing lightly, great spring conditions, only a few cars in the lot besides employees, plenty of distance to be had here. Still hoping for the weekend, despite the stay at home edict from Pugetropolis.
  11. 49*North is going at least this weekend, with restrictions; no bar, no food service but pre packaged snacks at the door no eating or gathering on the deck, eat in your car ,or on hill RV and popup chairs and BYOB for the win
  12. North Idaho still open with precautionary measures; '' '' COVID-19 Statement from Tom Chasse, Schweitzer President & CEO March 15, 2020 Update The COVID-19 crisis is an evolving situation and at this point, we are taking extensive precautions to protect our guests & staff from the spread of the virus. We hope to continue operating until our closing date of April 12 but please continue to check in with us for updates as this situation progresses. Here are some other precautionary actions being taken (many of which help limit large gatherings of people): We are no longer accepting new lodging reservations. (We plan to honor all existing reservations.) We are no longer selling advance purchase lift tickets or Spring Fling Passes online. We are removing/limiting seating in large venues like the Lakeview Lodge and Chimney Rock to increase spacing/social distancing F&B options like the salad bar, breakfast buffet and burrito bar are being closed. All season-long ski school programs and school group programs are done for the season. We have canceled all live music in Taps for the remainder of the season. The Stomp Games Banked Slalom has been canceled. The annual Season Passholder Appreciation Party has been canceled. The summit Easter Sunrise Service has been canceled. Maximum attendance in our Day Care facility will be cut in half. We will have increased access to cleaning/hygiene products for guest/employee use at all outlets. The Caribou Room will be open on a daily basis to allow for extra spacing. All Guest Services interactions will be moving to the outside ticket windows. March 10, 2020 (updated 3/13/2020) With concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus touching close to home in our neighboring state of Washington, we encourage our Schweitzer employees and guests to adhere to the recommendations suggested by the CDC and other healthcare professionals (Panhandle Health District, Bonner County Health, or your local healthcare provider.) While there are no confirmed cases in North Idaho at this time, we feel it's imperative to be informed and aware of how our actions can help in the fight against its spread. The health and well-being of our guests and employees is our top priority and we are in touch with the Panhandle Health District on a regular basis for updates and information particular to our area. We have stepped up our normal cleaning procedures around the resort to include housekeeping in all lodging units, custodial efforts in public restrooms and spaces and we follow all standards for food handling. We have cancelled the remaining social events for Prime Timers (our local seniors group) knowing that they are a high risk group. We’ve relaxed our cancellation policies in lodging in an effort to work with concerned individuals and groups that had booked several months ago but are now affected by this pandemic. Please contact Schweitzer's 24 hour reservation desk directly with any questions concerning a current reservation. We have had several outside organizations cancel their fundraising events which required indoor space and a large gathering of people. Our plan is to continue our winter operations (lifts, tubing, snowshoeing, Nordic & alpine skiing) while we continue to monitor CDC/WHO recommendations. As this situation is rapidly evolving, we will adjust our operations plan accordingly. During lift operation hours, Schweitzer's first aid room is staffed by a Bonner General Hospital nurse and our on-site first responders are confident in providing any immediate care necessary on site. Schweitzer takes the spread of this virus very seriously and our management team has mandated CDC protocols be followed in all departments. The CDC states that the best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, the following everyday preventative actions are highly recommended: Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Stay home when you are sick. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask: CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a facemask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases, including COVID-19. Facemasks should be used by people who show symptoms of COVID-19 to help prevent the spread of the disease to others. The use of facemasks is also crucial for health workers and people who are taking care of someone in close settings (at home or in a health care facility.) Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty. For information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website For information specific to healthcare, see CDC’s Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC does have specific guidance for travelers. For more information from the CDC, visit their COVID-19 website Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this global health issue. 18. Total "hollywood" hore here, and it don't need to be groomed to prove hardboots work great for for pulling spins while lacing the bumps under the lift, https://live.staticflickr.com/video/4430751140/a90af4c4ab/700.mp4?s=eyJpIjo0NDMwNzUxMTQwLCJlIjoxNTgzODQ5MzQ5LCJzIjoiMDYzZjE4ZDIxOWM3MmE2NzJkZWQxZGMzMDdjMmUyZjkyNTI0MjMxMCIsInYiOjF9
  19. the park at 49*North is always last to be groomed in the morning; last week on a bluebird day, I got there just as the rope dropped, ollied over it as the patroller rolled it up and laid the sweetest carves of the day around the rails, spines, and jumps like a super giant slalom course in perfect untracked cord
