  1. Wondering if anyone here has the POC skull x, or pretty much any other helmet, and can compare to either a Pro-Tec skate or specialized M1 bike helmet (M1 fits me great, Protec required some modifications) The memory foam on the skull x sounds comfy.. any input?
  2. I'd also like to help out some- Can't offer much more than a few bucks via paypal though, no old piles of gear.
  3. Looking for some help with helmets, I'll be hitting the real mountains some this year & figure I should be responsible here. My head is pretty big, the only helmet I've worn with complete sucuess is the specialized M1 bike helmet.. the styrofoam lined pro-tec required some modification on the sides of my head near the top, somewhere over my ears- guess its a little wide. Anyone know how those POCs fit? Giros? etc?
  4. Back foot only? He might be the only "mongo" snowboarder in existance.
  5. Yep, a real mountains lift tickets are bad enough for someone on a college students budget, and I'm currently riding a setup that cost me around 350 total I think.. There are no spiffy new coilers or doneks in my immediate future, but I'm having fun anyways:biggthump
  6. It sounds like fun, but I rather doubt I've got the skill, funds, or time for it!
  7. If all goes well, I'll be up to NH a couple days after x-mas... might also make it up to VT or at least wachusett before then.
  8. That 3' tall pink moving gate was sure giving me some trouble too! I only had one fall that I can't blame on anyone else; this should be a good season!
  9. My choice for that use was some Dewars white label:D..oops, off topic, huh?
  10. Now I've got a reason to come up for the begining of it, I guess! ..really going to try to make it to this, its just going to be hell getting school stuff pushed around enough to ditch for a week!
  11. At 155#, 5'11'' +/- and mondo 28 feet, I started on (and am currently riding) a speedcross 154. My setups relatively soft overall- sb124 & snowpro races. I run 48/45 degrees. I find it to carve pretty well, my local hill is TINY.. I learned last year & plan to hit the mountains some this year, we'll see how much too turny it is for real speeds & I'll pick something up in the off season to fill that void, probably. The price was the main factor for me- something like $220 new, the boots and bindings were also inexpensive for me. If you know you like carving, it'd be worth getting a better setup, but I've found this to be quite servicable for learning, and has justified some better equipment in time.
  12. I'll very happily make a fool of myself on that if I make it to ECES:biggthump
  13. I'm doing a chemical engineering take-home final instead tonight.. who will be around/ up for some sessions during jan? Also, possibly dec 21st?
  14. When're you two going to be leaving? Know anything about current trail conditions? I might be able to head up around noon.. get there after 2... I'm sure one of the ticket options would work well enough for me.
  15. from his ebay "I'm leaving snowboarding because I broke my favorite board and the budget didn't have room for the replacement because the one I want is ~$1,000...oh well, so I'm trying my hand at skiing now."
  16. Finals, huh.. %^ *goes back to reviewing vapor power systems for wednesdays thermodynamics exam* Anyone care to remind me why i'm double majoring in engineering? Well, i'll be up for weekdays after Dec 21st, whenever I'm not off in VT or NH... my break goes through Jan 23rd, after that it'll be weekends only most likely. ..either way, I'd like to ride with a group, its a lot more fun even just riding with one other. Plus, theres two+ of us to answer the stares at our ski boots and odd snowboards
  17. nobody interested in weekend meet-up, eh?
  18. I Want Snow! lets organize a carver day? (nothing official, just meet up) How 'bout this weekend? My finals start next week, but I could get away for one day I think
  19. Thanks for the reassurance on duck/gorilla tape- I figure if duck will do it, gorilla will do it a bit better as that its roughly comprable to army 200mph tape. Adding a strap is an interesting idea.. I suppose that'd make the boot a bit more controled and hold the liner in better etc... as listed at http://www.bomberonline.com/store/boots/parts_sb.cfm I'd need part 1 and 9, the strap and buckle x2 each, is that all? how about that housing for the base of the strap?
  20. whoops, got all mixed up. fixed now. thanks Hugh. I may consider some "yoursole" brand footbeds/inserts in the future.. Thermo liners probably won't come 'till I pick up some new Deeluxes in a while...I'm quite pleasantly surprised by how much taking a knife to the liners helped, I just had a pile of foam-rubber left on my desk afterwards  gorilla tape as a liner tear and cut-away-section sealant, anyone?
  21. PROBLEM IS FIXED:biggthump I cut a good deal of liner material off.. any recomendations on a tape or something to seal the sections that I took down to the soft inner foam with & repair some rips in other areas? duck tape..actually, probably gorilla tape.. will be my standby, otherwise! regarding footbeds/inserts, I stole some out of some older nike running shoes that I wasn't wearing. These boots are actually approaching the point of being comfortable! here's to ghetto-rigged gear :D
  22. If you can, find a shop that carries what you want, and try them all on. I walked in with a pretty tall budget, used to buying oakley sunglasses because they're comfortable, feel well made, and have great optical quality- so I was okay with dropping $100+ on some goggles. I tried them all on, the cheapos through the top of the line stuff... one of the cheapest models was the most comfortable for me, and I've never had trouble with fogging on 'em. so, a little time on your face is worth more than anything else, if you ask me.
  23. Well, turned out I had a piece of neoprene laying around- wetsuit patch or something. The neoprene did a little, but not enough. How would I go about removing liner material? I think I need to make some more space rather than take away by adding stuff, even if that stuff is pleasantly squishy. If that doesn't work... I will probably pick up some yoursole brand insoles/footbeds and see if that alleviates my foot issues enough, if not, looks as though I'll be getting some thermomold liners. Seems punching them out would be a good option, thermomold or not... do most ski shops offer this?
