  1. my primary issues with this concept are that its edge hold to flex relationship is not linear, and that in ideal conditions, it has significantly reduced your effective edge.
  2. I got one last season as my first hardboot setup.. i like it, and its a solid board to use as an intro to the sport..or, at least, thats my perspective without having ridden anything else, except twintips in soft boots!
  3. the wires are laid relatively near the surface.. hopefuly they didnt do too much damage to your trees. you could always do some plantings in your yard, claiming you didnt realize you'd cut his wire(which, btw, was on your property.. you didnt think he'd have it put there).. depending on how vengeful you might be.
  4. how's that, tony i'll leave the rest of the pics to you
  5. today was the best day i've been out on in months..easily. overhead consistent breaks, cleaned up as the day went on... we'll see if any friends got pictures.. finally had waves powerful enough for my 7' semigun. was out for 4 hours straight, just a bit tired now!
  6. its sad when you're stoked to surf waist - chest waves with a 3-5 second period.. that was today, and i was happy. stayed out till a bit late doing so, too! I could really go for a storm off the coast about now.
  7. niiice very jealous, guys! looks like tons of fun. learning to ride is a recurring goal on my to-do list:biggthump
  8. i got torn apart a bit huh  referring to the charger, *on the ones my friends have* the macbook pro came with a faster charger, they both were magnetic...then her dog ate it, and shes using her roomies from a macbook. regarding the touchpad.. no, i suppose its not true tactile feedback, but when theres a frame around the edge of the touchpad, i know when i'm at the edge, and i know if a finger is on it, emphasis on the latter. I had issues with that on the macbook pro, and i dont know if the same can be said for the macbook.
  9. a few of my friends own them.. one issue i find infuriating about the macbook pro and probably the macbook as well is that the touchpad is flush mounted, you've got next to no tactile feedback as to whether or not you're on it, so i wind up with two fingers on it, and the cursor going everywhere. aside from that, the macbook pro has assorted nicer features other than the obvious ones, including random things like a nicer charger if the extra cost isnt going to cause hardship, I'd suggest the pro.
  10. half hour from westerly? did i take some ridiculously circuitous route last time?
  11. Thanks, thats good to know & does make the idea of kiting somewhat more positive, though letting go of the sail and hopping off into waist deep water still sounds easier  i still wish there was a "steer this way then pull" method for flying 30 feet on a windsurfer. I'm also a bit jealous of the total gear package size for kiting.. large backpack vs station wagon full.. oh well!
  12. how does one land their own kite? i've always had to catch, turn into wind, and throw some sand on other riders kites.
  13. on the topic of what this threads headed towards, but not started as: kiting looks like fun, and i'm jealous of the ease with which you guys can jump, but I'm unlikely to try it any time soon, primarily because of the inability to land your own kite, the space it takes to launch, and the aparent difficulty in heading upwind. I'll stick with windsurfing, i'm almost to the point of being able to jump, and i'm becoming more comfortable with the whole harness deal.. anyone find waists easier to get hooked in on than the oldschool seats? i've been in footstraps and planing for about two years now before that it was crusing around on longboards mainly
  14. Not sure if "untold money" is quite fair.. I've got 4 boards, I suppose I could add a fish shape, but otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with no more. at the prices I've gotten, this works out to ~1200-1500.. including wax, leashes, bags, etc. probably even my wetsuits fall under 1500 personally, my favorite beaches to surf are both inside of 10 miles from home. now, i'm going to compare to hardbooting I'm guessing most on here own two boards on average. call it $800? that ought to be pretty kind, considering some pairs of boards could be 1200+ TD2s are $350, lets say $200 for bindings. we'll call boots another $200, knowing that it could be double that. From RI, Its a 4 hour drive or so to VT, NH, ME etc.. extra gear? pants, jackets, gloves/mittens, goggles.. not going to add it up. so, they're roughly on par with each other right now... difference comes in for a seasonal cost. ignoring gas costs, a day of riding costs >>$50, and a day of surfing might cost $1.. if you manage to wear all the wax off your board so, who's crazy now?:D ...either way, its me. just the same, i thought i might put it in perspective!
  15. haha yeah, thats a fair half of why friends look at me like i'm crazy. ..and other surfers look at me like i'm crazy for using a 3/2 with taped seams through most of the winter (plus booties and mittens), while most others are out in 4 or 5 something suits.
  16. maybe because we go out mid-winter in double overhead waves? at least, thats when my friends call me crazy. other than that i've never gotten called crazy
  17. the mention of the credit card worried me too, but i was going to bite my tongue.. not saying anything against you gleb, just use some caution
  18. mid 7' (7'6'' or so) to 8' makes a good funboard, your weight is an important factor though. your athleticism ? is also a factor, if you're a strong swimmer/paddler, you can go shorter. longboards catch the waves easier, but are not as easy to turn, and harder to get out through the waves with. so, weight/height/athletic ability/goals all are important.. have any input here?
  19. spent yesterday on the beach- taught a couple friends, the girls got bored, and started taking pics.. spent most of the day on my 9' performance longboard one especially small one i like the spray here nothing adrenaline inducing, but a great way to spend the last day before classes just the same!
  20. its not hawaii, but its still fun up here! besides, this isnt much to complain about: yea yea, so thats a rare day. oh yeah, tony, i'll be working durring the BI bomb unfortunately. i'll see if I can have your board done for then, though.
  21. email me direct at xxguitarist(at)yahoo.com if you decide to come this way, we can arrange location & time etc.
  22. I'm down in southern RI, and also surf with the URI club. if you/he are down this way, let me know...I've got a bic that I teach friends on
