  1. Thanks BlueB, I guess I'll start playing some.. see what I can come up with, and how much it helps. Any likely sources for neoprene locally?
  2. The pressure area seems to be around the location of the ankle strap attachment, and there is a screw there, however the general profile of the boot also has an indent there- probably to hold your heel back somewhat more.
  3. hah, its true- I can't ride Gecko's boards. They all do an amazing job of going straight, for me. His carving boards are set up a little tighter than my downhill stuff... that said, I weigh 150 +/- which is deffinetly a consideration. [to gecko] By the way, I've got something pressed in the way of a slalom proto blank.. only 20something inches long, but enough to show the concave. I need to get another two sheets pressed on also, but I managed concave in the main length, at the kicktail bend, and through the kicktail. [/sidetrack]
  4. I understand that I could re-use the liners in new boots, but thing is, the new boots already come with thermomold liners which would make my old ones redundant... I suppose I just deal with that & make the upgrade. It was the tracks that I've been looking at, wishing to switch to. anyone have the link to those cheaper moldable inserts? I found it earlier today on a school computer.. something to the scale of $45 rather than the superfeet etc prices.
  5. Well, last year my raichle 124s fit alright.. this year, not so great. My feet haven't grown that I know of, running shoes etc still fit the same. The 124 have the stock liners & footbed inserts. The liners are going to need some work regardless.. some rips etc. after a season of use, but I'd rather not spend the money on a set of thermomold liners unless members here are pretty confident that they'll solve my problem. Even then, I'd rather not, if there are alternatives. My right foot, especially, has a pressure spot over the bony bit between my arch and ankle, on the inside of my foot. With my foot inside the shell alone, sans liner, I can see where the contact occurs, and there isn't a ton of extra space with my foot centered. This is what I need advice on fixing. These boots were very inexpensive, from a member here. The liners were included per my request despite the sale being "shell only" , as such, I suppose I'm somewhat hesitant to spend too much to get them to fit well, because I'll probably upgrade to a more modern boot eventually. (this assumes there are significant enough benefits to a newer boot) My feet thank you for the help!
  6. heard anything about their conditions? I might be game... when would you go?
  7. I uh, said that I liked the dervish.. and that I own bears... confusion. Internet fights are so pointless, but they're always bound to happen when it comes to personal preferences..
  8. regarding bears, the original grizzly (50 deg +/-) turn quite nicely- i've got mine set up with blue stims bottom and i believe a red insert on top. Other than that, I'll just chime in that I'm starting to prefer the feel of conventionals (specifically bennett fronts) more than reverse kingpin. Paired with a tracker rts or stable seismic, you've got a solid feeling board that turns very nicely. Indys, especially the older ones or ones set on core baseplates are very well liked for garage & similar use... and allow for a lower board when you have to push.
  9. unfortunately, no concise photo of all the ones i've built and sent on their way.
  10. drop-throughs reduce leverage a little.. in this case, its a good thing. the dervish is far & away my favorite loaded board. unline the vanguard, it doesnt flex mainly from the middle, its more of an even flex. alllaround nice board- just remove those raised logos from your baseplates! oh, and if you're like me.. (i'm a mere 155 lbs) and like to really drive the board, go for the heavier flex.
  11. interested, but will depend on the date & timing etc. ..also, what level are these trails? I've only been on hardboots for a year :o
  12. public picture album. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2086500&l=d7447&id=14310970
  13. Replied to your email... got a message about you being out of the office.
  14. red line is level, if the blue lines were parallel, there would be no wedging. both nose and tail are wedged, which increases the turnyness/ sensativity to board inputs. Generally, if you've got 50 degree trucks (as RIIs are) you'd want 0 wedge or even negative wedge (especially in the rear)
  15. I presume those are not RII 180s- maybe DHs?, if you plan to hit 60 with that much extra wedging? Are you pressing with a vaccum bag or a wood form? Your board looks to be right in the mid-ground between what you can pull with a vac & what requires a mechanical press. Looks nice overall, thought those angles worry me a little!
  16. I like what you've done Take no offense to this, but might you have started with a thruxton in the first place instead? I suppose it doesn't give the reward of making the mods yourself..
  17. Me too, tony. Some people like them though. My post says how I find them less enjoyable to ride. Just the same, the eleanor has somewhat less awkward angles to work with when compared with the evo.
  18. The evo is popular, and generally better liked for everything except pointing straight down hills. That said, I much prefer the direct response of a dropthrough to a drop deck. Drop decks have a tendancy to respond with a little delay, that is, you initiate the turn and have to wait a short period until the turn really sets in, which causes me (note that i'm not that used to riding them) to occasionally turn harder than I intended to. However, if you enjoy the feel of them, consider something with something less in the way of wedge compared with the evo.. it can make truck choices tricky, depending on what you're looking for. (CLB with crails is a nice pairing)
  19. ahhh! stop scaring me when i'm about ready to buy a season pass!
  20. another friend got one of me actually ON a wave thought i'd share. ..and no, I dont have a clue what i'm doing with my arms. Thats my 7' semigun, made by angulo. Thin & narrow. the board rails turns great once powered up, but is useless in the all-too common knee-waist slop around here. Feels loose but powerful and in control too. managed to spin it out once on a rather steep drop, tried to take a hard toeside while making the drop & shoot down the line.. not sure if i turned too hard, or before the board had enough speed, or if it was in midair.. but it was rather surprising to be face first into the wave..oh well, the friends from behind the wave saw it through the wave and were amused The way I figure, I've got another month or two to figure out what I want to wear this winter, 'cause I plan on surfing more than once a month, through the whole winter. The 3/2 psycho is fully liquid taped, so next to no water gets in, and i've gone out on a day where there were flurries with it. need to pick up a hood, though.. or a winter suit with a hood attached.
  21. Just the same, I'd love to see the face on the judge if you got sued for killing sheep on your neighbors property for planting a couple flowers in your side lawn
  22. probably not in the UK, not by that name at least.. for instance, that mazdaspeed 3 I used is listed as a mazda 3 MPS overseas, other places it'd be an Axela MPS or other various combinations.
  23. I saw the wetsuit around noon today, but havent decided if i'd rather get a 5/4 instead, so i let it pass by. my current fullsuit is a 3/2 o'neill psycho, so it keeps the water out nicely. it wasnt quite windless on friday, but the winds were offshore there.
  24. My car that ought to be here inside the month, a mazdaspeed3, scores a 62. Current car, however, is 6 years too old to show up! ('95 Honda accord wagon)
  25. nope, not 2nd. picture is from down here in westerly, at "fenway" the first beach on the weekapaug end of misquamicut. plenty more pics, that was the best.. my friend only took pictures after she was too tired to surf more! heres a few. doubt he made it down that one. even on the big days, longboarders are good at stealing all of 'em.. oh well, i do the same sometimes. me trying to pump down a wave that was just too weak. shot of the lineup & the swell we were all chasing. .. that oughta satisfy you:biggthump if all goes well, there will be similar pictures from mid-week & also monday. need..more..big..waves drops like those are addictive, as is having a solid wave to make turns on.
