  1. Agreed. I live a bit far away to be able to play with you, but it's definitely golf season.
  2. Now that looks like a good time!
  3. Tell me about it. Driving around some places up north, you can feel people staring at you when you're in an import. Never had anybody give me **** at gas stations though. Maybe I look unapproachable or something?
  4. And the biggest problem with northern NH is the fact that nobody will EVER make $30k-$40k a year up there. Unless you're a helluva bartender/waiter/gas station attendant/cook. That and the white trash element is slightly...disproportionate. I thought I could live up there, but I'm back in SNH again. Live up there is so bitter that people have nothing better to do than drugs and drink, and commit various other "I'm bored lets go do something" crime. Vermont sounds like it's perfect for you, but again, you're really going to have to look for $30k+ jobs. And get used to driving ALOT - things tend to be pretty far apart. 30 miles to the grocery store anyone? The Lakes Region of NH isn't too bad. Easy commute to the Concord area and a little bit more industry than the north country. Reasonable cost of living, and some really up and coming towns - Franklin comes to mind; the town SUCKED just 5 years ago, and it's really starting to come around now. VERY cheap to live there, and the second best little doughnut shop that my fiancee or I have ever been to (THE best was in Twin Mountain, but Twin sucks on ice). Southern NH isn't that far from the mountains, but not that close either. Rereading your post, you pretty much described Franklin. It's two towns over from Laconia - where THE motorcycle rally for the east coast is held every year. Gunstock is about 20 minutes away, and it's a pretty good carving mountain - not the best, but good for a fix.
  5. New Hampshire: McIntyre, Pat's Peak, Gunstock, Sunapee, Ragged, Cranmore, Cannon, Loon, Attitash, Waterville and Bretton Woods Vermont: Mt. Snow, Jay Peak, Killington Maine: Sunday River Mass: Wachusett I stood in the ticket line at Mountain Creek in New Jersey for about an hour once before I said to hell with it, it's not worth this for crappy snow, crowds, and 700' of vertical. So 16 mountains total. I think I probably forgot one or two though. This list does not include backcountry either.
  6. I can tell that it's pre-1990 by using my brilliant powers of deduction. Not interested enough to actually look up the japanese numerals, but you can tell that it's not 2000+ because we're in the first decade, so the second and third numerals would be the same, same goes for the 1990s. Logic also says that its also not a 19_9 coin because the second and last numerals would be the same. This is unless the japanese dating system has a strange progression that I don't understand.
  7. Bretton Woods has beach day every year. I missed it last year, but still went out in my bathing suit a few times towards the end of the season. Very few hot people in bikinis though :(.
  8. Sorry, I'll take a Luis and Clark any day. Yay threadjack.

    good beer

Thanks, Willy. I'll check out that Julius Echter. Anyplace near by that you know of that has it? I make trips down into MA a little more than monthly, so even someplace near you would work.

    good beer

I'm attempting to become a beer guy... I'm currently enjoying Harpoon Hefeweizen UFO. Good Stuff. I tried Portsmouth Brewery's Dirty Blonde a few weeks ago and that was really good stuff. Nice and wheaty. Yum.
  11. The volvo gets my vote. There's something with swedish vehicles that just makes them...right. I also recommend looking at the Saab 9-5 wagon, as Saab has THE most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. Nice roomy cargo area, and lots of thoughtful features to make you say "oooh, why doesn't everyone else have this too?" (fold away cupholders, cooled glovebox, and integrated roof rack mounts come to mind). The volvo has a wonderful interior and is hands down the safest of the bunch.
  12. I just got power back 2 days ago...I was starting to get really tired of playing Pioneer Justin.

    MP3 advice

Second plug for the Shure headphones. I have two pairs actually, the _2_ model and then I was so impressed that I got the _3_ model, and they sound every bit as good as my home stereo setup, but I can wear them-it's just amazing. I've got an 80GB Video iPod that I use almost daily, and also an old 20GB 3rd Gen ipod that I use for riding. I've had the 20GB one for almost 5 years now, and it's still on its first battery, and performs as well as the day I got it. Yeah, it doesn't have a color screen, but I'm sure as hell not going to ride up the lift when it's 10 degrees out with my gloves off so I can watch a movie or something on my 80GB, so what does it matter? The new iPod Nano is the best bet for a full-featured MP3 player these days. 8GB capacity, video support, no moving parts (long runtime), and they're $150...the fact that they have a screen means that you can pick the music that you want to listen to without having to listen to the first few notes of 30 songs before you find the right one. They're also damn tough, as my fiancee ripped hers out of our alarm clock and threw it at a wall radiator one morning, and it's still working just fine. For the $100 on top of the shuffle price, I'll take the ability to see what I'm going to play. Don't worry about the battery life, it isn't anywhere near as bad as you may think it is. Those makita batteries that you throw out are being discharged and charged at an incredible rate as far as batteries go. You'll spend a small fortune in alkaline batteries over the life of the device vs. having the rechargeable. You don't wish that your cell phone or laptop took disposable batteries, do you?
  14. Cannon Mt. is like always offering 2 for $60 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and NH Residents ride the lifts for $25 on wednesdays. Best mountain in NH by far, and for cheap!
  15. If it wasn't for your preference for lower angles, you might really like a Volkl Renntiger. They ride a bit shorter than they are (if you ask me) but they have good edge hold and I really enjoyed riding one on a little **** mountain up the street from me (400 feet of vertical, 2 trails, 600 screaming kids). Just my experience, and I'm a big guy and ride hard. Good luck!
  16. I can't believe that there isn't any love for this video...
  17. Wow. Dude can drive . I don't want to do that for a living when I grow up, I want to do that for fun!

  19. I shattered my leg just above my ankle while riding with my AF700s (no walk mode option). The best solution is to not crash. I'm guilty of riding with my Head Stratos pro's in walk mode on powder days, or even when I'm feeling laid back. I never ride my tele skis in walk mode though, but that walk mode is markedly more effective as a walk mode than the heads "walk mode" is. I love it!
  20. Awesome! I like the Avalung, but this would keep you from needing to breathe under the snow at all...cool stuff, but avalanches will ALWAYS be terrifying.
  21. hey I went the other way last season! Good to have you around, it's a great community here. Nice shiny new pilot there, take care of it!
  22. I groaned and rolled my eyes. And wolf blitzer of all people gets to pioneer it!
  23. It's cool and all, but the facts remain that hydrocarbon combustion doesn't result in anything that can be considered "green", the internal combustion engine is a model of inefficiency, and even home-brewed fuels that are meant to be combusted like aren't going to help with emissions or pollution problems. It's a good cause, but I can't see how the internal combustion engine will ever play a part in going green. I wonder if this excretion can be made into plastics and the like?
  24. It's been snowing on and off up here for about a week. We get a dusting at night, and then it's gone by dawn. It's that time of the year though!
