  3. Ok, the difference between ski boots and hard shell snowboard boots is that the sole on the board boots is shorter, has grips on it for skating, the flex pattern is different, and generally the cuff is a bit lower. Personally, I ride raichle AF700s (Deeluxe Indy). Canting helps to get you comfortable on the board, it aligns your knees so they are basicly straight, and once you get into racing circles or more advanced carving (even beginnners can benifit) it shifts your weight ever so slightly (or not) about on the board. Say you're racing, you want to be kinda forward on the board: more rear foor cant and more forward canting on the front foot. They control the way you carve a bit, as does your stance placement. As far as the discs: If you're worried about cost (NO OFFENCE TO FIN!!!) get cateks. They are infinitly adjustable in any direction, and I dunno, I love 'em. But the adjustability of them was what sold me on them. Oh, and the canting on the AF700 boot is to align your ankles if you need to, and to a minor degree that also works on your knee. Hope this helps! -Justin ________ Varadero

  7. I think that some of us may take that term in a derogitory way because of the condecending tone in which it is most often delivered. Ok, now that I'e used up my smart vocabulary allotment for the night, I'd just like to say that I like the way that this tread is going. I remember on the old forum that we would all of a sudden have everyone start flaming and going mad with rage and then Fin butting in and closing the thread, but I think that since we've actually had to register It hink we may have gotten a bit more mature. Lonerider & Softboot company : You make some very good points, but its unfortunate for me to say that you (from my experience) are the minority in the park mon....people world. Most of the parkers that I know are the ones that we all come to dislike...sitting on their boxers in the middle of the trail waiting for their stoned friend to finish building the jump that will land them in a blind spot on the trail. Everyone: Why do we care so much? What difference does it make what kind of gear we ride? In my opinion, its not the gear that you're riding, its the organ in your head that matters. I know many a soft boot rider that I could pass off as human at a formal function, but I also know a few hardbooters that I probally wouldnt be able to, and I regret having to donate one of them to the zoo :( . All jokes aside, Im sure that there are people that ruin the fun on both sides. Granted, in many cases people's steriotypes are justified by prior experience, there are many people that just make steriotypes to be predijuste(whatever...its 10:00, Im usually in bed by 9:00). I know that Ive formed my opinons of softbooters out of my prior experiences. I know that Ive formed many opinions out of experiences that I haven't had, which was wrong of me. The thing is, there will always be the rude few that ruin the fun for everyone. Look at September 11th, 2001. A bunch of arabic extremists flew planes into buildings, giving an entire race of people a hard time. Our first response: "ARABS ARE BAD!!!!" its natural human instinct to profile people, its one of our defense mechanisms. I get taken out by an out of control softbooting parkmonkey, my first response: "PARKMONKEYS SUCK!!!|. Its natural to assume things like this. Another one of my trained responses is to be wary of women skiing in purple jackets or purple one pieces, they ALWAYS (from my experience mind you) do something stupid: Cut someone off, fall for no apparent reason, take a <><> when they know damn well they cant handle a [ ]...ITS MY EXPERIENCE, and you can't hold that against me. Sorry aboutn the length, I just felt I should get in on this. -Justin PS: Lonerider, you said you're a starving college student, are you going ot be a lawyer? You seem to have the good lawyer mentality where you can look at both sides then counter a good point with another good point. You're being very good about not getting excited, which is more than I can say for some people on the old forum. ________ Ketamine rehab advice
  8. I am a tuning pro, I own a small business on the side, and all we do is tune. Personally, I ride 1* on the base and 1.5-2* on the side. I use that for everyday carving and racing. I had an interesting request the other day though, a snowboarder wanted 1* side bevel on his heel edge and 2* on his toe edge, or maybe it was the other way around, but either way, he wanted different bevels. I think its all a matter of preference, and it also depends on the conditions you ride most. Me, I ride on the eastern blue plate so I want REALLY sharp edges to bite into the ice. The idea behind base beveling, like someone said already is tokeep you from catching an edge. Some beginners start with 2-3 degrees on the base, to keep rom catching, and the best riders in the world on the circuits get down into the tenths of degrees on the base. The side bevel is not only to make the edges have a smaller angle on them if you use a greater bevel(think knife edge, the smaller the angle, the sharper the surface), but also it can make the edge square again. A quick formula to find out your edge angle (s= side bevel, B= base angle). (90-s)+B=final edge angle. So, lets see, my final edge angle is (90-2)+1=89*. And now a world cup circuit racer's: (90-3)+.3=87.3*. The higher your side bevel, the sharper the edge, and the lower the base bevel, also the sharper your edge. If you used equal angles, you would have a 90* edge that is tilted to the snow. (90-2)+2=90. That edge there would be tilted off the snow by 2*. Hope this helps. Email me if you need anymore help. -Justin ________ Health shop
  9. Damn, before it was just saying sorry to a fellow carver stranger, now its someone Ive ridden with! Thats really too bad, me and my skiier friend were planning on hitting Gunstock or Waterville on Superbowl sunday and I was gonna ask you if you wanted to come along. Major bummer! I hope you get better soon! Maybe we could hook up for some june turns at K-Mart. Any estimates on recovery time? -Justin ________ Mac Game
  10. Welcome to the gimp club! Last year I shattered my right tibia and fibia in an accident and missed out on the end of the season, its no fun. Its too bad you got hurt, especially so soon into the season. Don't the painkillers rock? It was the morphine drip that did it for me...gooooooooood stuff. I hope you feel better soon! -Justin PS: Are you the same person that I know as Russ from Nashua? ________ Ford India Specifications
  11. Same thing happened to me. Take the heel block off, and remove the heel bail. Wrap some duct tape around the pieces that sit in the heel bail, then re assemble the whole thing. Its a quick fix and only lasts a few days, but its not overly hard to do, so I keep doing it. I got fed up with it, so Im getting the step in kit. -Justin ________ NEW JERSEY MEDICAL MARIJUANA DISPENSARIES
  12. What high school do you teach at? My high school (Pinkerton Academy) has been delayed since wendsday, with no school whatsoever today. If you're interested in hooking up for a few runs on fridays, head up to gunstock around 4:00 on fridays. Ski club has been canceled for the last 2 weeks because of the cold, as was our traveling club's trip to sugarbush last sunday. -Justin ________ Glass Pipe Pictures
  13. Is Rusty the same Russ from nashua? I know how it feels to be down for the count, its no fun at all, its too bad it was early in the season. Anybody see it/know why and how it happened. Plus a bit of insight: If he broke both wrists, how is he going to type his war story for us? We need to send him a secrerary! I can see it now: "Joanie! Take a memo!" "To Who?" 14. As far as it being a cold day, just use a cold temperature wax, it will eliminate sticking. Also, on the same note, find youself a good tuning shop(www.allenswrenchtuning.8m.com is mine) and find someone there that you trust to do a good job. Most importantly, have fun in the gates, gate bashing has always been one of my favorite things to do. -justin ________ Cheap easy vape vaporizer
