Gabe T
Took some carving vids for the first time this past weekend. On a new Colier VSR 173. Thanks to Stewart for the use of the mount and pole! http://vimeo.com/18260085

utahcarver
I took my GoProHD out today and had a lot of fun in a dump of snow. Holding that pole is a lot harder than it looks. Hat's off to you! Nice Vid! Mark
Donek
How long is the pole you're using? I got a GoPro HD recently, but my sprained ankle and Christmas orders have kept me off the snow. Hopefully, I'll get out and use it soon. Gabe T
Thanks for comments everyone. I borrowed the pole from Stewart Hodgins who recently posted some videos using the same pole. I don't have it with me but I would guess it was about 4 feet when fully extended. The pole was retractable and most of the shots were taken with it at max. length. My camera was the HD version while Stewart's camera was the SD I believe. Comparing the shots we each took, it looks like the HD does have a wider field of view. The camera was set at r3 = 720p @ 60fps. Don't have much experience with video editing but this is what I did ... I converted the mp4 files to wmv files so that I could edit them using Windows Movie Maker. Gabe T
It's 48F and raining today! I put together another video from different clips taken from the same sessions ... Similar shots with a couple of new angles thrown in. http://vimeo.com/18344724 Gabe
WEBSIGHT360
Nice work on all the different camera angles. Who do the music credits belong to? I like that song...
Donek
Been playing with my Gopro HD and my kids. When I tried to open the videos in Premier, all I get is audio. Did a bit of searching online. Apparently this is a problem with the gopro. Premier doesn't recognize the files. What software are you using for editing Gabe? Gabe T
I produced the videos with Windows Movie Maker. I converted the MP4 files to wmv files using 'Any Video Converter' (freeware) prior to editing the clips in Movie Maker. As for the music, 1st video is 1979 - Smashing Pumpkins, 2nd is Lazy Eye by Silversun Pickups.
GeoffV
Gabe or Stewart would you mind posting some info on the pole and where to get. That setup looks the best to capture some good footage.
stewart Hodgins
My pole is 28 inches unextended for easy use on the lift, then i can extened it up to 49 inches. I made it from a window washing pole that i cut the end off. The mounting piece is the role bar mount from the go pro website with a little duct tape to make the pole thicker. Here is an example of how to use it in slowmo http://vimeo.com/18224745. Stewart
pokkis
Mine is made from telescopic fishing rod. Unextended length 58 cm and extended 123cm. That was first and cheepest i could find last winter

lowrider
Saw some nice gopro skewers this last week on the slopes anyone interested in personal safety? Wear a helmet carry then carry a spear?
mykcuz
nice vid, if i remember correctly, the beginning when you are filming birds eye creates a choppy effect as the snow passes. I think that was how they filmed the music video for 1979. unintended fitting tribute.
