  1. I might go Wed or Fri this week, not sure yet but I'll let you know! I can't even carve in softies right now so I'm going to look real bad in my hardboots ;)
  2. Oh my, has it really been 5 years since I posted here and last carved? A mortgage, a Mrs., and offspring can do that to even the most dedicated carver. Doesn't help I had to replace my ACL 4 years ago too Anyways, I work for myself right now so I got a midweek Summit pass. I got on the lift for the first time in forever last week during the storm and it felt great. Anyone else only available weekdays?

+1 I've mostly given up on carving at Mammoth unless I get to Chair 2 on the first few chairs or I'm there on weekdays. June Mountain is where you can get your carve on
  4. Looking for the latest sidewinders to use on Voile plates. Probably a stretch but worth a shot
  5. I'm partial to Alpine Meadows. Squaw Valley is nearby too but it can get crowded. I'll never go to Northstar on a weekend again. If time's limited I think Mt Rose is 30 minutes from Reno.
  6. Just ordered the plates. I love stuffing my own Xmas stockings
  7. Bleh, so much for a weekday carve session this Friday. But if you don't have a pass this is a sweet deal! http://www.mammothmountain.com/MountainActivities/WhatsNew/
  8. Looks like there will be no pow! :( Our friends way up in the PNW are getting the goodies. I'll probably be on my old Burton Ultra Prime, look for me :) http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?CityName=Mammoth+Lakes&state=CA&site=REV&textField1=37.6486&textField2=-118.971&e=0
  9. I had a rear bail that went out on me mid carve. I'm not an aggressive rider or a big guy...155lbs give or take. It was likely user error in setting it up but who knows.
  10. Wider board and lower angles help me learn too. As I got the hang of it I started going with 65* but found the optimal setting for me to be at 50-55*.
  11. Looks like Chair 2 is open now! http://forums.mammothmountain.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11932&start=15#p208842 I think I know the answer but it's still rock board season isn't it? :(
  12. I believe I have some old mondo 24s so let us know after you've measured. I prefer to carve on intermediates too and when I follow my friends to the blacks I do a lot of skarving. The only time I enjoy steeps are pow days.
  13. Looks like Christmas might come early for us! http://forums.mammothmountain.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11616&start=375#p207545 Might have to leave the Coiler at home hehe
  14. Welcome! Glad to have you here. When I first got into the alpine scene I learned on a Prior ATV. It's a fantastic all-mountain board but as I got better over the years I yearned for a more fine tuned carving experience. That's when I bought a straight up alpine board and a pow board. The ATV is great for what it is - a jack of all trades and master of none. I sort of regret selling it but having a pow board to ride soft boots in has been really enjoyable. You can do EC turns on any carving board but some make it easier. IMO it's a gigantic difference. I can carve harder and with less effort in HBs. When free riding in old and tracked out pow SBs are way easier. That's just me though. Find out what the right tool is for you. You should hang out with one of the SoCal guys at Snow Summit. They'll be glad to help you out. We love showing new brothers (and sisters) the light :)
  15. Anyone been here? For $25 I'm giving it a try. http://www.groupon.com/deals/mt-waterman-los-angeles?utm_campaign=UserReferral&utm_medium=email&utm_source=uu5390886
  16. I remember a photo where someone put spikes on the back of their skis and boards. Genius!
  17. Fin is like Steve Jobs. Everyone wants to buy everything he has to offer. Take our money Fin! Take it all!
  18. So who will be there? I'm thinking about going up super early Saturday and then coming back Sunday evening for 2 days of riding.
  19. I love backcountry free riding footage. IMHO it's the highest level of snowboarding. I wish I had the cajones and the skills :(
  20. Congrats on the acquisition! 185 is super long at MH for little me but seeing the way you ride I think you'll kill it anyway
  21. A place to stay, you say?? Find out your mondo size and we can get you set up pretty quickly. I wear 8.5 US and my mondo is 25 (tight fit). If you search the SoCal ride board threads from last year you'll see that there's always someone up there each weekend. We also hold our annual carving pow-wow at June Mtn in the spring. Keep an eye out for that!
  22. Looks like someone earned their turns already: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150325593008843&set=a.223991843842.137784.221468038842 And a snowboarding video: http://forums.mammothmountain.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=11464
  23. Wow you guys make me so jealous, I will be there for sure next season
