johnasmo
Any day now.... The Big will open Saturday, but it's been a dry week so they'll only open the back side and Russ's Street. They've been blowing snow a couple days now, so expect a lot of what's back there to be man made. There's been a ice shell over the mountain all week, but once you get used to the noise, it really ain't so bad. The Face is actually riding pretty well in spite of it. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBXr_FXMJmk&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBXr_FXMJmk&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> (One tiny drop. I land it Tuesday. I land it today. Can I land it with a camera, of course not. I suck.)

johnasmo
I think it was a rain event. I was out of town for a few weeks, and it was there when I returned. I'd been watching the snowcams, so whatever happened, I know the snow was only a couple days old when I got back. Snow has a way of transforming each day. Constant metamorphosis. On Sunday and Monday the ice layer was there, and the snow underneath was heavy, but as the week went on and the temps got lower, the ice layer got more brittle and the snow underneath seemed to be drying out. Either that or I was just getting used to it...

west carven
howdy all was a pretty fun opening day, only chair 7 on the backside was open. still, better than last years opening day, the runs were well filled and hardly any gremlins. last run on russ street only way down or download on chair 1. looking around as i was on russ street the coverage is still thin, needs three feet plus of snow. it was dumping all day and there was about four inches of new snow. rode my burton amp5 rock board with 3 straps softies. i still love this board its like a little skateboard. i can rail this thing but its so squirrely cant push it to hard, so much fun... johnasmo
West, didn't see you out there. Maybe because of the strap-ins. Rick has a red coat this year. I'm still yellow on orange (think lemon atop a traffic cone). We hard booted the AM, then I went soft the rest of the day, and Rick went to watch the Griz game. I tried Dave's old Renntiger GS 173 and actually liked it; maybe I won't sell it right away... Best opening day snow in a few years. I was expecting a lot of man-made snow/ice, but we got 4 to 5 inches overnight, so it was good.
west carven
howdy all braved the cold today, one of the few, less than 70 people all day. sub zero temps!!! bluebird day!!! great carving snow, bit icey in spots, dry, chalky, squeeky, nice firm groomers!!! still on the backside only. rode a fp157 on hardboots, sticks like glue snow, had a blast!!! rode pretty hard from 11:30am till 3pm. still little stuff sticking out that needs to be covered up. it'll get better... west carven
howdy all ditto as yesterday. felt alittle warmer, still sub zero, burrrrr!!! got there around 12pm and left at 3pm. another great day! the quality of snow is perfect carving snow, we just need a ton more so the whole mountain can open... west carven
howdy all another good carving day! very fine lite snow all day. got there about 12pm and rode till 3pm. rode my rsfp167 this board likes firm groomers which we had today, but with the new snow things were alittle slower. temps are still around zero and with alittle wind it was chilly. still only on the backside... west carven
howdy all new name change... whitefish mountain resort ZOO!!! with the weekend warriors things were pretty crazy today, everybody stuffed into the backside. it did not snow in town last night so i thought it would have been a good groomer day, but there was about two inches of new snow on the hill. as i left for the mountain around 9:30am it started to snow in town and when i got back here was three inches at 4pm and its still piling up. its around 7pm and theres 4plus inches of very fine snow. got bumped up pretty fast with all the new snow, still great fun. rode the rsfp167 and cut thru the chops o.k., more snow in the foecast... west carven
howdy all great pow day!!! knee deep to a grasshopper. saturday and sunday snowed all day, so today best pow day. the big opened more terrain so everybody spread out. the face had some knee deep pow and was great!!! chair 2 was open but the lift broke down. i had some good pow on the right side of eds run were it wasnt groomed. rode from 9am till 2pm on the rock/pow softies. more snow in the forcast, maybe wenesday big dump... west carven
howdy all what a difference a day makes. for rhyme and reason it was warm today and ice build up on goggles, foggy, wet heavy feeling of the snow. it was not a good day to be on the hill. i think it was the warm part of a cold front from the pacific. it brought a few snow tonight. not too many people on the hill today, not much new snow. rode my rock/pow softies and found some pow left over from yesterday. 9:30am till 11am short day... west carven
howdy all a big front moved in last night and snowed some wet snow. about 5 inches over groomed and more off groom. very wet snow and pretty warm and soggy today. there was still a lot of great pow after everything got tracked out, you just had to go to your secret stashes. this warming just adds for a good solid base. things are getting better. rode the 156 fish which is great in the fresh stuff but is pretty tough after things get bumped up. forecast is more warm weather and looks like another front in a few days... west carven
howdy all we are still in a warm mode. lite rain here in town this morning as we left for the big. i was with a newbie today for a few runs. i think he needs to get used to the hardboots and find what is comfortable in his stance. hopefully he'll be railing some turns by the end of the season. today was a busy day on the hill with a demo tent with skis and jib boards. alot of weekend warriors and high school is on winter break. it will be a zoo the next few weeks with the holiday season. as far as snow condition today it was somewhat spring like conditions. the snow was getting a little chunky with the warm temps and the fog was down at the top of chair 2. i did not go on chair 1 today so dont know how the rest of the mountain was. rode my rsfp167 such a great board. eds run is getting better still a few brown spots and sticks showing thru... Cuban Carving Gooding
I Saw the tent on the web cam. I was wondering what was up. It looked like no one on the hill when I looked at the cams. Lets pray to the snow gods get some snow on the mountain. I will be out there soon. Have fun West. Do you see the Dr or Johnasmo? west carven
howdy all it is still warm and raining, big mtn reported 8 inches of new snow. made a few runs on chair 2 and left around 10 because chair 1 did not run, heard it started up about 1 pm. there was a few inches of creamy fresh but when tracked up sets up into ice piles, not good. i kinda knew it would be a wet soggy bad day...
