I'm looking to buy boots but I'm very nervous about sizing. I have read the sizing articles and the whole bootfitting guide on the carvers almanac, but I still have some trouble believing it. I measured my mondo point and I'm just under 27 cm(approximately 26.7). According the the almanac, I should be looking to buy a MP 26 boot, since a 26 fits 26-26.9 cm; but that seems a little small compared to what others have said.

if you read the fourth post down, he says " I have size 8 feet and the boots were quite tight, my toes hit the front," in reference to a size 26 boot.

I wear a size 10.5 - 11 shoe, so it seems like there would be no way I would fit in a 26(my shoe actually says MP 29), but thats what my mondo point "should be" according to a ruler. Myabe I'm just being paranoid, but since I'm shopping for used boots, i don't want to have to return anything.

Any insight would be helpful, thanks

This seems to further back up that the mondo sizing is not quite accurate. Ive tried remeasuring my foot a few different ways, even traced the outline on paper, and it never really gets above 27 cm. a size 28 is supposed to fit a foot thats between 28 and 28.9 cms long... im becoming even more confused, arg! thanks for the input guys! It definitely helps to know this stuff before buying!

I could use more insight if anyone has any. It doesnt have to just be for my size. If you are supposed to be a MP 24 and you can barely squeeze into a 25, let me know!

More like shoe sizing is inaccurate! I wear between a 10.5 and a 12 depending on the brand. I tried 29, 28, and now 27 mondopoint boots before I was happy. Guess what: my foot measures about 27.9 cm.

Of course this is for boots with thermoforming liners. They simply adapt to your foot when hot and set that way. A ski shop can also 'punch out' the toes slightly if they're just a little too small, but they can't do anything for boots that are too big.

My foot measure 26.7, last year I bought deeluxe track 700 mondo 26. I had heel lift, sold them and bought Head Stratos Pro 25.5. They're a bit tight but it should pack after 3-4 runs.

Before being on Bomber, I ride AF600 mondo 27.5 based on a clueless shop... I was quite clueless myself too !

Don't trust your shoe size, measure your foot.

ok, last question, hope to get a lot of opinions:

with a foot that measures 26.7, will I be disappointed with size 28 boots like these:

Better to error on the too small side. I wear a 9.5 street shoe. I went to several bootfitters with 27.5 boots and they all said the shells were too big to do a heat moldable liner. They say they can "make room" in a too tight boot but can't take up the volume in a too big shell.

Liners can be modified to fit your foot exactly, it's the shell that needs to be the right size. Usually a shell will be able to fit 2 or 3 liner sizes, that way they don't need to make as many sizes of shells. Just make sure they know what they are doing. A reputable bootfitter, not a chain store sales associate.

-1 to the first part, a boot only fits 1 liner size for thermo, or with a .5cm difference with a non thermo i.e. a 27 shell fits 27 and 27.5, but not a 28 or 29...

+1 to find a good bootfitter, Where do you ride Kex, maybe if we know that some locals can help you with a good shop...

if you measure in the 26 range then 28 is way too big, street shoes are deceiving in sizing, if you have a wider foot then you usually get a bigger size to accomodate that and therefore it is not a true measurement....

my ultimate suggestion, find a good bootfitter as JoeK says and have them measure your foot then you know....

and +1 to all who say a boot can be made bigger, but never smaller!

I'm a US10 and use (very comfortably) a 25 shell.....

I made some mods, but extremely happy and hope my AF700s have lots of life left.

That said, I custom fit boots for 8 or so years...which kinda helps.

Having already gone through all this I can say: shoe sizing is off, Mondo sizing is correct.

If you measured your foot at 26.7, get the 26 at the largest. A 26 shell with Thermoflex liners will fit a foot from 26 to 26.9. Do not go with a boot which is too big or you'll hate life.

My own feet measure 27.4 for the right and 27.9 for the left, and I wear 26 boots. They've been worked on quite a bit by myself and several bootfitters, but they're very comfortable and fit great.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. OK, 2 sizes, not 3. My mistake.

The point I was trying to make was to get the right size shell (not only length, but width also) and the liners can be customized even if they are not heat moldable.

Sorry Joe, i thought you were saying that one shell fit say 25-27.5 (which is a miconception b/c the tongue and cuff will have this type of size range and it just for those pieces not the whole boot), so i was just clarifying! sorry I misunderstood your meaning :smashfrea my bad!

and i certainly agree with your point to get the right size!!!!

thanks everyone for the overwhelming responses. I guess its time to start looking for a 26 boot, though I'm still considering a 27 (couldn't heat-moldable liners help to make them fit better?) Also, don't feet swell when you are on your feet all day? every time i've measured, its been after sitting around doing nothing. I'll probably head to a local shop to try on some ski boots and see what fits me well, ive heard ski boots fit the same as snowboard boots

I would get the 26.

The mondo point sizes are, imo, pretty much spot on. I have 25.x cm feet and wear Deeluxe 25 boots, and they fit fine. US mens shoe sizes, as mentioned before, vary so much from brand to brand that they are meaningless. I have worn US mens 7.5-10.5.

I would not go with the larger 27 shell if you get Thermoflex. Thermoflex does puff up some when you heat it up, but in my opinion in packs down better than it puffs up, if you know what I mean, and over the course of a season you will pack it down slightly more and more, so it's nice to err on the side of too-tight. A very snug but molded fit, is not uncomfortable at all; my hardboots are significantly more comfortable than my softboots.

Don't be worried when you get your boots and you can't even fit your feet in; the baking will take care of it as long as you can fit a finger or two behind your heel if you put your foot in the shell without the liner. Just make sure you get somebody who knows what they are doing to fit your boots, or make sure you put a big fat toecap on your toes if you bake it yourself. Super snug feels great everywhere but around your toes.

The one exception, might be if you come across Burton boots. The shell run .5 to .5. in that case you may be happy with a 26.5/27.0 size. Even then, you might get a 25.5 shell with TF liner to work.

Last year when I first got Deelux snowboard boots I followed the bomber info exactly, and when I got the boots I took them to the boot fitter at Hoigaards (local ski shop) for fitting. The fitter did his evaluation of the boots and affirmed that the sizing was correct. I used the same sizing info to purchase a set of UPZ's this summer, and they fit great. Really great as a matter of fact. I also used the same sizing info for a set of new ski boots last winter, and the bootfitter at Hoigaards affirrmed again that it was the correct size. I was way oversized on my last ski boots "fitted" at REI. Never again.

Point is that the bomber sizing info seems to be dead on.
