  1. I'm thinkin about gettin a new SV1000S and I was wondering how everyone here would break in a new motor. Would follow the manufacturer guidelines and go easy on it for the first 600-1000 miles. Or would you hammer it/ride it hard during the break in period? Or somewhere in the middle: ride it pretty much the way you would ride it after the break in period? Happy trails!
  2. Hey Fin, Yeah, I saw the prototype at the SES and thought it looked like a great concept! I'd have to say this version is much cleaner looking! Let me ask you guys a question, especially those guys that had a chance to gives these things a test run. Do you guys think that this would be a worth while upgrade for a lightweight carver? And do you think it matters how aggressive of a carver a person is to consider this upgrade? I too would be interested in a version for Head boots too! Happy trails will be here soon!
  3. In my 8 or so years of snowboarding, my favorite month to ride is March! Jack pointed out all the elements that make March the best time, for me, to ride. Days are longer and warmer, but still below freezing! Snow coverage will be excellent! Grooming will be right on! More sunny days! Just a good time to be on the trails! And alot of people are starting to think about spring which translates into less crowds on the trails/in the lines! Again, this is just my point of view at my favorite mountain! Happy trails!
  4. yeah...that smells like it could be something I could be hungry for! I can't remember the last time my SVS has been out! Wait a minute, I just may have to break out the FZR400 for this one! We'll see!
  5. snowboardins' not all that! But if ya'll are totally buggin' to dig some trenches...why not book your trip to Chile or Argentina or New Zealand...how about going to Australia to ride with fellow flat-tailer Dan the Man!! I'm sure he'll tell ya'll how good the ridin' is for him right now! What is it about snowboardin' anyway? I mean really...you're outside, freezin' your arse off, snow flyin' up into your face, eyes waterin' so ya can't see where yar goin'!!! What's the attraction? Tell me...please!
  6. I would go to Mammoth Mountain in CA myself! I can't speak from experience, but they just got over 12" earlier this week!!! According to the tell tail web-site! We'll have to let some of the local carvers fill us in! I've heard that the carving is better than the freeriding right now anyways! I've been sooo tempted to plan a trip myself! DO IT! DO IT! Do it for us poor slobs that haven't carved in a month so we can live vicariously through you my brother! Sorry, I got a little out of control!
  7. Hey, how's the carving/riding at Mammoth Mt these days? I was just on their web-site and it sure looked like it could be good!
  8. Tim, I'm glad to here that you'll be able to ride soon! As I went to the SES, what was the final outcome of your dispute with Buttermilk? Did you get any retribution or did Buttermilk ( it was Buttermilk, right?) just blow it off? Back to carving, did you have any kind of date in mind? And would you have any ideas for me as far as inexpensive places to stay? I could be up for another trip out west! I've never been to CA!! We'll see what happens!
  9. Let me ask you guys a question about carving at Mammoth! How is the snow for carving during April & May? Would it be worth my while to travel out there from the east during this time of year?
  10. I'm not, but I have a few two planker friends that qualified from Bretton Woods, NH that are going! I'm thinking about racing on the Nastar Curcuit next season! I raced for the first time in my life in a local ski club race series this year. I finished 2nd over all! I was one out of two riders out of 20 that rode an alpine board. Good luck!
  11. When I was running my AF600 boots, I attached a Booster Strap with a t-nut on the outside of the rear of the boots, coming around to be on the outside of the front of the tongue. Now I am using Head Stratos boots which has a nice cut of the rear of the boot that I slide the Booster Strap thru...but I still t-nut it in place and still wrap it around the outside of the front of the tongue. Hope this makes sense and helps! Happy trails!
  12. I too have been thinking 'bout the dark side! I started snowboarding before the shaped ski revolution ( skiiers should thank us snowboarders for that one! ). I was a terminal intermidiate skiier! But now, with my confidence and knowledge of being on edge, skis intriuge me! I've been thinking about demoing some Volkl 5 Star, Atomic SX7 or Salomon Equipe 10SC! To me, holding an edge is very impressive! Wether it's one edge or two :-) In the grand scheme of things, not many people out there, skiers or snowboarders, know how to use the tools that they have straped to their feet! Anyways, that's my two cents! Happy trails!
  13. I was at Shawnee Peak in Maine on Saturday and there were two of us! Me on my Prior 4WD and a Burton FP 5.7 in the racks at the base lodge! But on Sunday at Bretton Woods, there were 7 of us!! There was me on my Donek RC-167, Dan & his wife on Oxygen Protons, Bill & his brother on a Madd & a Donek FC-171. A Volkl Renntiger and a Hot asymetrical board were spotted in the racks!! Fun was had by all! Sorry to those of you that I forgot your names or didn't ride with! How were the sightings at your mountain?
  14. I don't know if this would interest any hardbooters out there in the Lincoln, NH / NE area. I was in the Lahouts' Ski Shop in Lincoln, NH yesterday and low and behold...what did my eyes see...but THIS years Deeluxe Indy & Suzuka boots on hand, in stock! Unfortunately, I did not notice the price on them. And they had the standard liners. But I felt it'd be good info for everyone out there. The more resources for alpine gear that we have the better off our little industry has to grow, right? Who knows, if they sell a fair amount of boots, maybe they will start to stock boards & bindings again too! Anyway, I just wanted to pass this along to everyone! Happy trails!
  15. Jeff Day Feb 12-Feb19 Coming out from Massachusetts! This'll be my 3rd SES in a row! I'm staying in the Bomber House too!
  16. I have a 97 Hot Shine 154 which I use as my early/late season board. I dig it! It's a very turny board. I believe it has a dual sidecut radius of 7.8/8.8...nose & tail respectively. Or vise versa, I don't remember. All I know is it is a fun board to ride. I think it's waist width is 202mm. I'm thinking that your Blast is more of a GS board whereas the Shine leans more towards a Slalom board. I have no info on the Spirit for ya! Hope this helps! Happy trails!
  17. ...but I recently purchased a RAB mechanism that I am thinking about putting on my LaMans boots instead of the 5 position lever (duh!!!) and was wondering if someone could give me a run down on how to set this thing up! Will the RAB be effective for a rider of 150 pounds? Thanks! p.s. right now I ride powder mode(lever down with the round dial turned 90* to the left)
  18. Thanks Derf! I appreciate it!
  19. Does anyone know of anyone or any site that would have an archive of board spec information? I have a 96/97 Hot Shine 154 and a 98 Burton Alp 5.1 that I'd like to know the specs of. Thanks and happy trails!
  20. Mike, I wish I could help you out a little better. But I really don't know. What I can tell you is that my boots are a size 24 MP. I want to say the waist is about 18cm. I'll take a closer look at it tonight to see if I can't find any info on it.
  21. I have a Burton Alp 151 that might do the trick, if you are still looking for a board and are interested. It's blue with a blue flower in between the inserts. I paid $50.00 for it and only used it once. Make an offer! Or just pay for shipping and it's yours!
  22. My Father & I are thinking about going North of the Border to do some skiing & riding at Mt Orford / Bromont / Owls Head / Mt Sutton Ski Areas! My Father & I tend to gravitate towards the same type of terrain: Blue runs with good grooming! Can anyone help me out and tell me which areas are going to be good for carving? How are the crowds on week-ends? Thanks and happy trails!
  23. I own two pairs of boots. A pair of 2001 AF600s & a pair of 1999 SB323s. With my AF 600s, my toeside turns are pretty good, but my heelside turns tend too wash out with more frequencies. And with my SB323, the boots that I think that I prefer, I have no worries as far as diving into a heelside turn, but my toeside turns are very ugly. Now I've been carving for, I think, four seasons. Snowboarding in general for about 9 seasons with about 25+ days a year. So there's still alot of things that I could learn I'm sure:-) I ride with both Cateks & TD2s with very similiar settings: 3* up front & 6* out back. And just lift, no canting. My most common ride is my Donek FC-163. Can boots make that much of a difference or is it my riding style/technique that far off/bad? Tell me what you think!
  24. ...Are you saying that the cant adjusters on my SB-323 moving all the time is a common thing? I was wondering if it was the way I was riding or something. Have you heard of a way to make the adjusters more permanantly tightened?
  25. Precision Tuning Center is located in the Summit Ski & Snowboard Shop in Framingham, MA on the eastbound side of Route 9.
