  1. Lucky? There was no luck about it, Tim and I had the heavy ends. Four guys a girlfriend and a dog no bigger than a ginny pig got that hellfest of a TV moved from the car to the condo. Neil, I hope your not planning on moving that thing anytime soon. It was great ridding with everyone. Saturday's carving was definetly the highlight---sunday's pow was also fun. Hope to see everyone soon. Will be back 1st weekend in Feb.
  2. Neil, will be up late Friday. See you at June Saturday. If we don't meet up contact me Sat pm if you still need help.
  3. I've fallen in a tree well after big snow and it's scary not to mention its hard to get out if you feet are uphill from your head. Several years back some teen age kid fell in one at Mammoth and couldn't get out. His fall was fatal and he was only 30 feet off the run.
  4. My Burton Reactors (translucent green) have the above mentioned removeable toe piece. I retired them several years back because they were a bit tired, good boot though. I wish I had them here to post a picture of the removable toe. Maybe some one else can post a picture to add clarification. Wow Fin, you are going above and beyond the call of duty with this product warning; I'm sure because of recent events it is now necessary. Thanks for the heads up and continued good luck with BOL and keeping us supplied with some of the best products in the world of alpine riding. As to potential ambulance chasers, consider the above warning. Also consider the fact that all alpine sports are often dangerous or even fatal, and that each user willingly submits their bodies to this risk. That being said, please leave the industry guys alone, so they can continue to bring us the products we all enjoy using at prices we can afford. Thanks. :)
  5. Tom I grew up in HB. Where in HB do you hail from? Hey guys can there ever be too many alpiners and June? ;)
  6. Happy Bithday Erwin!!!!!! Looks like you guys caught it good, and you didn't have to pay for a lift ticket----nice b-day present. I bumbed I missed it due to work constraints. Love the pics Aaron, obviously you guys had a great time. Contact me about Mammoth this weekend ASAP. If I don't hear from you soon, I will try to call in the pm.
  7. So it was you that took that ebay auction and then sold to Brian? Keep an eye out for me for one of those bad boys.
  8. Looking to replace my 183 RTrs. Would also like to find RT(sl) race stock, if there is such a thing. Has anyone ever seen?
  9. For whatever it is worth, I have had a coulple of conversations with a guy trying to make a go of it on the world cup concerning his slamon boards. He weighs in at 185lbs and rides 163s in the slamon and boasts of the fact they turn like 158s. Seems small to me, but I guesss thats what some of the best atheletes are ridding for slamon. That being said, boards with less than 10 meter side cut radius like to turn; maybe your holding onto the turn a little too long, which is easy to do if you're ridding with people who are carving big old 15 meter gs turns. Go a little more with what the board wants and as Chris mentioned bending the knees can solve a lot.
  10. Die hards??? or Hard ups??? :D How was it? Contact me about the 21st @ Mammoth.
  11. Sounds like a group will be up on the weekend of the 21st. Also heard Aaron (oldvolvosrule) and Erwin (gdboytyler) will be up. Pretty sure I will be there too.
  12. Curious to know if anyone has done a comparison ride on the Axis and the 4wd. Pros and cons of each board etc. I've owned a 4wd for the last several seasons and love it, but want to know more about the Axis. Tell me what you know.
  13. Yea, I was afraid that they might be collecting all that new snow the week of the 7th after seeing almost all other runs groomed on the hill. As Frank said, we should catch it while we can.
  14. I spoke with on to the ski patrol guys (not carl, he was off) at june last Wedesday and he indicated that Gunsmoke should remain groomed (no jumps) at least until spring. Has anyone else heard this?
  15. Brian, so your the one that out bid me The RTRS 183 is a fun, confidence inspiring board. I currently ride a later model and it has become my staple carver. Let me know what you think. Mine has seen better days so I am looking for a replacement (hint, hint)

    DIY Hotbox?

In a past chapter of my life, I owned and operated a bakery specializing in premium whole wheat products. The oven was the size of a small garage with revolving shelves that would have held over 50 boards at one time! The gas pilots kept the oven at a consistant and even temp of 90 degrees when not in use. Hmmmm, a nice side business, hot boxing snow boards/skis after baking hours. Come to think of it, I could have easily modified the stone flour mill to double as base grinder. Hind sight is 20/20. :D I'll see if I can dig up some old pics.
  17. Brian, gotta love that pic of Gunsmoke, and look, no jumps! I think I was comming into town just as you were leaving, if I recall correctly. Didn't you ride June your last day on the way back to the North West? While taking another look at the picture of Gunsmoke, I have to say it is one of those few runs that beginers to world cup can have a blast ridding. I know I'm repeating myself by saying the run's highest and best use is 100% groomed. Thanks for sharing the picture. Happy New Year!
  18. It's way too late to resurrect this dialog, but I will say that I share the same oppinion as carve4life. However, once I'm there, Mammoth for me is a convience thing, no driving or parking hassels etc. Convenience aside, my preference is with June, except when Mammoth's upper mountain is groomed and not cut up---steep carving at its best. Two seasons ago I caught Scotty's fully groom out all the way into San Anton. VERY steep for the first five or so turns, then open, steep, and fast turns as long as the legs would permit. Shared that day with gdboytyler and it was one of my top five carving days for sure. I have not seen Scotty's groomed before that time nor since. :( Will be up in Mammoth Tues 3rd thu Fri 6th, not sure what days I'll be at June. Give a post or email if your going to be there.
  19. You pilots and your inside jokes...autobrakes???a new type of flap the will take the aeronautical world like anti-lock did the automobile world? By the way Sean, did you ever figure out the video thing for the Mammoth camp? Love to try and help if you need. :D
  20. Randy, you get three big thumbs ups up Its geat to see the youngsters enjoying alpine sports, but on a full carve setup, thats even better. Looks like she is getting some great training on the AM asphalt. Way to go dad!!!
  21. I tried to find some link on the Junes public website, but to no avial. A personal email adress would be nice. Can anyone help with this?
  22. Willy you got bounced at the Wedge? Then you can probably appreciate the viedo from surfline. Check out the clip. As for kite boarding, I think Mike already is a participant, or at leaste he windsurfs. And for me, just one more thing to buy , break and replace not to mention the time---so I haven't tried yet. I like the Real Kite Boarding philosopy of ridding a surfboard between 5'6" and 6'0" in order to maintain speed, floatation, and the surfy feel. There is a contingency of kiters I see at Bolsa Chica when it gets really windy, but I think they are ridding the smaller boards (more like wake boards). They look like they are having fun. And to Astrokel, the wave is generated by the wind not tidal currents, and from what I understand it can get up to six foot face size not too far from this very spot. quicktime: http://www.surfline.com/video/vids/2005/sep/wedge/player.cfm?videotype=qt windowsmedia:http://www.surfline.com/video/vids/2005/sep/wedge/player.cfm?videotype=wmp
  23. Dave the two jumps they build on Gunsmoke are BIG. Most certainly, not built for your average park/jump guy. I think because of this the jumps are not ridden that much, at least to their potential. On the other hand, with no jumps, you can almost always find a few carvers and many family senerios on Gunsmoke. The runs highest and best use is 100% groomed. It certainly wouldn't hurt to let our voices be heard on this---reasonalble or not. :) By they way are you staying or leaving Socal.
  24. I guess they need A LOT of snow to build those jumps. I'll take your suggestion and try to contact Carl about leaving Gunsmoke open. Maybe as they hear from enough of us they will leave it alone James, I will also be up the week after New Years (Tues thru Thurs). Hopfully see ya there.
