Mammoth is reporting 16” for Monday and another 10.5” over the last 24 hours, not to mention the 25” that fell over the weekend. It looks like snow through Sunday this week and the predicted temps are low during and after these series of storms blow through. True, it is the busiest holiday of the year for Mammoth, which will deliver a train wreck of people---even with less skiers / boarders traveling due to the economy. I am hoping for some left over cashes at June, which I have been able to find in years past during this holiday. Neil has indicated he will be coming up. Who else will be ridding Mammoth or June over the weekend? I am going up with the family from Saturday to Wednesday and will be riding solo for the most part, so keep an eye out or give a post where and when you will be riding.

Sounds good Neil. Lets get the boys up north confirmed over the next couple weeks. Are you up at Mammoth this next weekend? It looks like I will be up from Friday pm to possibly Wed pm. There is a chance of snow during this time with continued low temps---hopefully.

I realize this is over four weeks out, but I wanted to keep the post somewhat fresh, so that we can get the dates on the calenders of those who will be attending. Are the above mentioned dates still good or are we going to reschedule?

It was good to see all of you guys at June. Kerry, you looked good on the f2 and hopefully Lorrie forgave you for dumping her of the end of bench on gunsmoke. We made several runs with Frank and Terry, and spotted Neil once or twice. The conditions were good at June with no crowds on Saturday. On Sunday morning we noticed that parking at Canyon was minimal, so we decided to ride Mammoth. We started on ridge of eight where the snow conditions were near perfect. We then made several runs on ridge of five. It was a little cut up but still very fun and carvable. We then ended up at the top and rode Cornice to Main several times. Absolutely no lines and the crowds were manageable in the bowl, with the exception of the idiot standing just below the roll over (the steepest and most fun part of the run) talking on his cell phone. He was almost taken out by several people including me during his phone call---I can only imagine what the conversation sounded like on the other end. Why do we all have to be so connected all of the time??? There was a small lane of hard snow from top to bottom of the bowl that was hooking up nicely. Most of the traffic was staying out of that area because the snow was more firm and grippy, but very fun on hard boots. It was a good trip with near perfect conditions. I look forward to seeing you guys again.

I think your right. I noticed the same back in December, just after June opened. Sometimes June will build it later in the year. There are always a bunch of posts on this forum when and if it does happen :(

It seems like they would have to move a lot of snow around the hill to build the same super jumps they have in years past. Is there even enough snow for this type of construction??? I might be coming up early Saturday morning and leaving Sunday afternoon. Hopefully I will be able to put it together and see you boys at June.

Mammoth is reporting almost five feet from this last storm. Also heard from friend that June got 20" yesterday. Temps are low with more scattered showers today. Today and tomorrow will be great powder days at June---and I am getting beat on the head here at work .

It looks like I'm out. Nobody in my fam wants to go up so I will most likely spend the weekend in the southland :(. I'm anxious to see how June is holding up so please post conditions.

Yea, I agree with Gecko it will really hurt. I'm sure they are already feeling the sting as evidenced by the pricing. What will really hurt is if June gets shut down early to save on labor costs. Intrawest reacts quickly to market conditions like this.

I copied the following information from the Mammoth website. It nice to see the big mountain making some concessions, albeit a little limiting. WHAT? I never called back??? You must be mistaken , I would never not call back. Let me know when you are coming by to surf and I will make it a point to go out. More high pressure on tap, only this weekend there should be waves. North by northwest will make the lower streets in NB very fun. The next week day you go up, let me know and I will arrange things at work so that I can join the So Cal crew aka ASSESS or something like that.

Hey brutha, do you still have my North Face pull over? I would expect at leaste a phone call when you in the area surfin. ;) How are the conditions going to hold up locally through all of this warm weather?

Are you guys thinking about coming south to ride Mammoth and June for the Trifecta? I know some of you came to June last time. If you are thinking about making the treck south, it would be a good idea to avoid Mammoth on the weekend; however, June is ok. How is Rose on the weekends crowdwise?

This high pressure is bumbing me out and I am starting to waffel on this comming weekend . Now that we are closer to MLK who is going to be up at Mammoth or June for the three day?

The WTC is Feb 26th through March 1st, which I will be trying to attend this year. So either dates in March would work, but would prefer the 20th through the 23rd. How do these days work for everyone else?

Loc, stop calling yourself a beginer you ride better than that! Steep groomers in March sounds great. How about calling it the SNES Trifecta---three mountains in three days. Mt. Rose, June, and Mammoth? Who else is up for it?

I've ridden June on many hollidays and have always come away smiling:D. Two years ago I was up during Presidnet's and at Canyon the lines for 16 and 8 were woven into one BIG mass. People were everwhere. An hour later I was at June with a completley full parking lot. Once on the hill there was plenty of room to ride and the lines were never more than a couple of minutes. MLK should be no problem this year.

Oh and I forgot to mention the obvious, Mammoth will be a mess with all of So Cal on the hill. I've ridden June on holidays like MLK many times and even with a full parking lot there aways seems be enough room to make some fun turns.

Loc are you riding on Sunday only? Currently, my plans are to ride Sat, Sunday, and Monday; however, plans quickly change in my family:confused: I am really going to try and make it happen.

Randy, are we looking at about three hours from Mammoth/June to Mt. Rose?

For the first SNES Neil did a great job getting the support of the vendors and putting on an over all good event. It would be nice to get Carl the GM carver @ June Mountain to sponsor. It was great to have his support after the Mammoth fiasco. I would agree that it is too late for a full scale event this year; however, maybe we could thow out a coulple dates around SES and the WTC for a more loosely organized SNES. No vendors or tent, just a group of guys riding. Maybe we could even plan a day to visit the guys at Mount Rose. Just a thought.

Everything is expensive at Mammoth ski area, and it looks to be getting more so that way. :( I would say your best bet is to follow the posts on BOL. and show up to either Mammoth, or better yet June, when you see there are going to be a several riders on the hill. The carving community is pretty friendly and helpful most of the time. On a good day there will be a handful of riders at June that know their stuff. They may even be willing to take few runs with you, and give some free advice on the lift back up. Give it a try and see how it works out. What do you have to loose, except spending hundreds of dollars on a private at Mammoth that may not be carve worthy. Hope this helps and good luck!
