  1. Anyone else braving the crowds this coming weekend? I have ridden President's Day weekend in years past, with June not being so bad and Mammoth being a total fiasco. Newport Mesa Unified and a few other school districts have the week off, so mid week may be more crowded than usual. I will be solo, so post where you be ridding and I will keep an eye out. GC
  2. Loc, I thought you might be tempted to blow off class and show up at June. The conditions were very good at over the weekend. I rode both days at June. Way too much new snow for carving, but it was well suited for the wider varitey all mountain carver. I rode my 4x4 which worked well. I will be up again this next weekend until Wednesday. Maybe see some of you then.
  3. Will be at June tomorrow. Just recieved the live report from Mammoth that it is snowing hard with much more on the way. Needless to say the carving is shot for this trip, but should be good for all mountain or tactical powder equip. Look forward to seeing some of the crew GC
  4. The base is in good condition with the exception of the ding noted above, which, by the way, is not on the running surface, but on the up turn of the tail. All incerts are clean. I believe the board was built in the 04/05 season. There is also a slight ding in the up turn of the nose from a conflict with a gate. I can email a pic if you wish. Let me know what you think and you can email me through my profile.
  5. 187 length 19.6 width or so 15m SCR Custom built for 185lb rider. This board was used as a trainer and has a few nicks in nose and tail as depicted. No metal, classic WCR flex pattern with lots of life left for a solid back up, pre/post season trainer, or free ride board. Edges are a bit rusty since the board sat unused last year. More pictures coming ASAP!
  6. WHAT??? That's not nice I always call back the Erwinator!
  7. I did hear about this. What a goon!!! The guy gets inebriated, makes a pass at a married woman, while painfully fumbling the move, gets his butt kicked by a non assuming Mammoth female, and then has to spend a couple days in the brig for assault. Not to mention that he has become the source of many jokes since the incident. Give me a call or text next time you’re in town for a surf and I will try and meet you. I've got a new Bonzer I have yet to try. Is my pull over still in your car? Hope all is well. Talk with you soon. GC
  8. Today and tomorrow was and will be one of those days that you can tell people what they missed yesterday. Especially tomorrow.
  9. Hey!!! How did you get back so quickly? I guess we have an extra hour to OC. It was good riding with you and your Pops. Sorry I missed you guys today, but it sounds like fun was had by all. Oh and nice pic, it ALMOST shows what the conditions were like today.
  10. Neil, I know what you mean about the sore legs, but it all being well worth it. It sucks to be the week end warrior that I am these days. I did get to ride with Aaron, Julian, and his dad which was a good time. Hopefully tomorrow too. The weather started to blow in at about 1130. Not too cold but cloudy and a bit windy. Carving conditions are still good all over the mountain. Erwin, why the mid west? Don't we have enough latex in the world? Give me a call when you get a chance, we need to get caught up and make some plans for some spring boarding with you and Robert. Hope you enjoyed the beer.
  11. I rode today from 8am to about 130. Carving conditions were about a good as it gets at Mammoth. I didn't see any other alpine riders and rode solo the whole session. The morning was best with near asphalt like conditions but still grippy and hooking up. The big board was the call until about 10am when it started to get too crowded for big, open turns. The weather was near perfect with little wind and 40 to 50 degree temps. By the time I made it back to Canyon the snow conditions near there were a bit spring like but still fun on a shorter board.
  12. I just got two runs in this afternoon. The weather is beautiful with no wind---well maybe a little breeze. Temps in the 20's tonight should make for some grippy and hard conditions Monday AM.:D Weather is indicating 50's tomorrow. Not sure where I will be riding, but will most likely be on blue Prior WCR in the morning then army green WCR afternoon with orange Indy's. Hope to catch up with you guys tomorrow or Tuesday. GC
  13. It looks like June is scheduled to be done April 12th. With the lack of revenue this year I can't imagine they have gone soft on the closing date. Anyone heard if the 12th is official? I have really enjoyed Mammoth the last several times I have gone up due to lack of crowds. Have I just been lucky or have others been experiencing the same?
  14. Opps! Did I get get the legend's last name wrong? Gerth as in girth ratio factor, you know that thing that some start fighting in there mid 40s. Sorry if I botched it up Aaron:freak3:.
  15. WAIT A MINUTE!!! Is this THE Aaron Gerth or another Aaron? Is Aaron Gerth real, or just a figment of my imagination---a ghost wandering the upper Santa Ana looking for nebulous trout holes? Can anyone vouch for Aaron Gerth being a real person?;) If this is you, we just may FINALLY get to make some turns. Hope to see you all up there. GC
  16. I will be there too. Will be coming up Sunday AM (if my son doen't make finals in the NSSA) or Monday otherwise. Will be staying until Wed or Thurs, and will be riding out of Canyon if Mammoth is not too crowded, otherwise will be at June. Call or text as to where all will be riding and I will catch up (949.351.2575.) I have some kids to get situated before I meet up with fellow carvers. Gary
  17. ok, ok, ok, Dave-O. Lets get something on the calander so you can stop making excuses;) induldge yourself and buy a pass---you know you want one. I will be up with my daughter, her friend, and my son April 5th or 6th thru the 8th or 9th. Let me know what your doing. The only stipulation is that I get to ride your 185 4x4. GC
  18. I'm out:mad:My son is surfing if ISFs at Oceanside this weekend and Monday. Since my wife can't be there to support the manchild and his team, I have elected myself to do so---its the right thing to do. Sorry to miss the event.
  19. LOC, I go to Stefan Kalen once every so often just to kill time. They're close to home and it is fun to look at all their stuff---no hardboot equipment though. The store is a kind of a hoity toity NB ski boutique, but there are one or two techs that seem know their stuff when it comes to boots. Although I have never had boot work done from them, I have talked with them on occasion, and they can at least talk the talk. They have another location in CO, Vail or Aspen, I think, which gives them a little more credibility. Most importantly, Tom (Milte) knows whats up and he had a good experice with their boot fitting. Also, since you are up in Mammoth a lot, as you know, there are dozens of boot fitters in town. I have had expericnce with Foot Loose and would go back. Tom(Milte), where have you been? Back in Japan? Bring back one of those Yonex carvers. I still have the Carve magazine you gave me. Although I can't read Japanese, I often study the tech section pix. Great publication, I wish we had hard copy like it here in the US. Take care guys. GC
  20. SNES---Trifecta link for WA, OR, and ID Randy T, can you please elaborate on the meeting time and place for the guys up north? http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=25301
  21. Sierra Nevada Expression Session---Trifecta Brian (old snowboards.com) indicated that we should get the word out to our carving bothers and sisters up north. So here is an invitation to the SNES---Trifecta. Three mountains in three days, Mammoth, June, and Mt. Rose. This is a no fee, no tent, and no tee shirt carving event. Read more here:http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=23586 Meeting times and places are as follows: Friday 3/20/09, Mammoth Mountain. Meet at bottom of chair 2 at 9am. Thicket purchases are available here. Mammoth opens at 830, and all runs surrounding chair 2 are perfect for warm ups as late riders show up. Saturday 3/21/09, June Mountain. Meet at top of Rainbow Ridge at 10am between chairs 6 and 4. Bodie and Gunsmoke are also great warm ups as later riders trickle in. Unlike Mammoth, June is an intimate resort, so it is easy to find the group if you show up later. Sunday 3/22/09, Mt. Rose. Meet at Slide Mtn/east bowl side at 830. Maybe Randy T can elaborate if needed. Everyone is invited to attend. All levels of terrain available. Just show up and ride!
  22. The Mammoth marketing minds seem to finally get it---lower prices, offer value and convenience, and get more business. IntraWest has been shooting itself in the foot at $80+ for full day adult ticket. Now the reintroduction of the value pass, which pays for itself in about 7 days. What a deal! I hope it gives the mountain a jolt of last minute revenue it needs for the 09 season.
  23. I rode the translucent green Fires for several years and really enjoyed the boot. The tongue on my back foot developed a crack about an inch long and continued to get longer until I drilled a hole at the end of the crack. I then drilled six holes, three on each side of the crack, and ran three zip ties to suture the crack closed. Kind of a jerry rigging, but after not being able to find a replacement tongue, I got desperate and came up with this solution, which lasted the rest of the season before I went to the Indy the following year. I have ridden the Indys for seven years now and they have served me well most of the time. The zipper buckles are inadequate, and one of the buckle rivets inside the boot is sometimes troublesome to my foot. Aside from this, I like the flex of the boot and its overall performance characteristics. I will most likely stay with Deeluxe simply because of the track record (no pun intended) and I am already conditioned to the boot, which has been improved with a new buckle system and thermofit. Thanks for sharing your insights.
  24. Neil, have you posted any information for the boys at Bachelor and Hood? Let me know either way. I can create a post if you have not already done so. Thanks.
  25. Paging all resident authorities to the front---all resident authorities to the front please!!! Anyone that rely personal experiences with either boot, your opinions would be appreciated. I currently ride 02 Indys and have read all of the literature on BOL and Hardbooter about the boots. Any further insights would be helpful. Thanks.
