  1. going hiking on the AT with my girlfriend. Other than that, not much.
  2. Yep, I ride a KLR 650 in WV. Tons of graded Forest Service roads in my area. Good times! If you haven't already, check out http://www.advrider.com, its the BOL of dual sports. some pics. Somehow I always end up behind the camera. So no riding pics.
  3. Excellent condition, Biltin Bearings, Pink Gumballs, Randall R-II 180s, upgraded kingpins, blue Tracker Stimulators top and bottom, flipped hangers... I think I have the factory bushings somewhere if you want them. $250 shipped in US
  4. Nice story, in my opinion, it makes the sport that much more visible/legimate to the skiing public when they see a patroller riding alpine. I've been patrolling on hardboots for about 5 seasons now. Usually a Donek Axis 177 with TD2's and Fintecs. Sometimes I'll ride a Donek ASmith SL 162 or a Volkl RT183 depending on snow conditions and skier traffic. Being able to step in and out of the board easily is a big advantage for working on the hill. The control is great and makes sled hauling pretty easy. When conditions are soft or really manky most of our patrollers are happy to let me have the horns. It was mentioned earlier but keeping the board tuned is really important, especially for the long flat stretches. One other benefit of hardboots is the boots themselves. If the snow is firm (glacial) all the guys in softboots are always sliding around on incident scenes, with hardboots or ski boots its much easier to kick your toes in and not fall on the patient.
  5. One and the same. Both Volunteer FF/EMT's, ski patrollers. I'm an engineer in real life, she does GIS. Darren and Janette. Not a single unit anymore but that's another story...
  6. Drop me a line before you come to T-line, I'll hook you up with lift tickets. I completely understand your dislike of commuting. I had a 4 hr roundtrip commute for 3 years, then a 1 hr RT for 2 years. I'm down to 30 min now and its great. Spending your life in a car sucks.
  7. Chip at Whitegrass in Canaan Valley is reporting 85 skiable days and 171 inches of snow this season. Its closer to you than you think. only problem... bring your own job. :)
  8. I was the same, thought someone got hurt... I think its not that you need to get out of the mid atlantic, you just need to expand your range a bit. Snowshoe, Timberline, Wisp, maybe 7 Springs. They will all be open into late March. Tline and Snowshoe will make it to the 1st or 2nd weekend in April. There is still plenty of great riding to be had and crowds will be getting smaller every day. I rode fresh pow Monday at Timberline with maybe 100 other people. I do agree that Snowshoe can suck on weekends. Way too crowded to carve comfortably.
  9. Sorry about your injury AK. I wonder though if you wouldn't have ended up with a boot top tib/fib fracture instead of a torn AT in hardboots. Something has to give in those situations. If the boot didn't flex enough you might have. Heal up quick!
  10. I'm going to try that Nate. I have to drill out the 2 cuff straps so I can move the tooth section of the buckle. I've got them as tight as they will go right now and its not enough. I'm also going to order a couple of the adhesive ankle pads from Tognar to add in if the tighter buckles don't solve the problem.
  11. Brian at Pro Fit Ski and Skate in Leesburg, Va did mine. Of course I've also got a thread going about my problems with heel lift so...
  12. Thanks, that looks like something that might help. It would help create a tighter fit for the liner in the shell too. I may try adding some dense foam in that location before I make the 2 hr trek back to my bootfitter. I had also considered rebaking the liners but leaving the buckles looser than before in hopes that the liner would expand more. Not sure if they will actually work that way or not though. I know I need to move the toothed part of both cuff buckles, I have relatively thin ankles and lower calfs. I have the buckles all the way tight and its not quite enough. Moving them may aid in holding things in place as well.
  13. why exactly? I came from a Raichle 413 which actually served me well for 3 seasons with BTS added. The 700 T is a little wider in the toe box which was the only real problem I had with the 413 other than the buckles. I was ready for new boots, knew my size and they were easily available through Bomber. I don't have a shop within 400 miles that carries them so trying them isn't possible. I also don't have the time to travel to somewhere that does. Please explain how a different brand of boot would have eliminated liner movement or heel lift.
  14. Thanks guys I was hoping not to have buy other liners. Maybe I'll try my old standard liners in them and see if that helps.
  15. I just got a new pair of Track 700's. Went to the boot fitter and had them molded. He indicated that the shell was a good fit to my foot without the liners. I could barely get my foot in before molding the liner, it was small enough to curl my toes. After molding they fit great, I had plenty of toe room and foot felt comfortably supported by the footbeds we used. I finally got to ride them on Saturday and Sunday and I'm having some problems now. I thought it was heel lift at first but I think what is actually happening is that the liner is sliding in the shell. I can crank the ankle buckle and control it but its pretty uncomfortable. The first day I rode them in the thin socks I wore for the fitting the 2nd day a thicker sock. Both days I had the same problem. Any ideas? Oh btw, the new FinTecs are great.
  16. whew! Blue is about 5.5 hrs from me. Don't know if I could swing that during the week. Oh well. Have fun!
  17. I'd run down but I've got to patrol at Timberline Sat/Sun. We apparently have a snowboard GS on Sat so I'll probably check that out too. Have fun!
  18. Has anyone heard anything about the MAC Tracks event for this season? I know it went to NJ last year and the attendance was down a bit. Phil?
  19. I've got an F2 163sl that I would be willing to part with. Edges are a little thin but its in good shape otherwise. Say $175ish. I'm also up in WV at Timberline. Its a fun board, especially when the slopes are crowded, but I have a Donek SL that I like better. Darren
  20. I think I have a couple sets at home, I'll check tonight. Need any other parts? I'm pretty sure I have enough parts to make one complete set of bindings.
  21. No relation to the seller but the Donek Axis 172 is in your price range and would probably be a good fit for you. I love my Axis 177. I'm 250lbs, size 29 boots and it fits me well and is very versatile. http://www.bomberonline.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22512
  22. schweet! I like the new reciever on the step ins, looks like it should help to relieve clogging problems.
