  1. Been there, done that. :( I broke mine in 95 after a poor landing in the park. Since then I always wear wrist guards. They are made by Dakine and fit under most gloves. They are a pain but better than a broken wrist again. Be aware, they won't prevent all hand/wrist injuries. I broke a bone in my right hand one time while wearing them. That was my own stupid fault though. My sister actually broke her wrist from a standing position. She was waiting on someone, lost her balance forward on a steep slope and fell forward. Stuck her arm out and it broke. Season done. At the area I patrol, wrist/forearm fractures are EASILY our most common injury amoung snowboarders. They really like it when you suggest they should maybe have been wearing wrist guards as you splint them up.
  2. If you are talking about the step in Race plates, the one with the red release lever, I've got a partial set that I'm willing to part with. everything is good except for one of the toe blocks. Its cracked where the toe bail mounts. here's a link to a pic of them. Clicky

Hey Phil, what are the numbers for this year looking like so far? Have you thought about putting a message up on the main forum to get some extra exposure? I'll post a message over on www.dcski.com. May be a few alpine riders there.
  6. Yeah it was pretty amusing. Can't say that was the most sincere appology I've ever given.... and with that post I'm no longer a Skidder. yea me!
  7. They are an Alpine Touring (ski) boot. They are similar to the SBH but have some differences in the sole shape and maybe in the forward lean adjuster.
  8. Sorry the SBH's were only 27 and 27.5. He did have a couple pairs of Nordica TR12 AT boots though. One 30 and one 30.5 I think. yellow with red soles. Can't remember the price it was either $75 or $90. He'd probably deal on them.
  9. well sort of... I'm a patroller and was working that day, someone actually complained about my trenches to me! I appologized and then had a good laugh on the lift ride. I did make sure to report myself later to the other patrollers. They let it slide though. :D
  10. They are a full vibram soled snowboard hard boot. 3 buckle 1 strap. More like an AT boot than an modern hardboot.
  11. My local XC shop has 3 pairs of the old Nordica SBH hardboots if anyone is interested. They are size 27 and 27.5. $50.
  12. K2 made a board called the Trucker for a while. It was wider than the Fatbob. Might be able to hunt one up on eBay.

I think my wife and I are going to try to make it up again this year. How are the conditions at Roundtop?
  14. How about this... Take the completely assembled BTS and run the bottom pin through it only. Take the end of the pin and just barely stick it in bottom hole but on the outside of the channel where the BTS will sit. Swing the BTS into position and get the cuff set where you want it. Take something thin and pointy and stick it through the top hole on the BTS and mark the position of the top hole on the outside of the boot. Remove the BTS from that position, correctly drill your hole and then install everything inside the channel. Hope that makes sense. I don't have a pair of SP's but that may work.
  15. Where do you ride? Current riding style? I ride TD2 stepins and really like them. Apparently the interface is a bit stiffer than traditional bales but I've never ridden them to compare. Probably the same deal with Catek. The OS2 seems like a nice binding too. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Any reason you aren't considering the FC 175 or 179? The 179 has the same sidecut radius as the 171 and a little more stiffness. Might be better matched to your weight.
  16. I'd take the Donek. as above, its much easier to rent the soft boot stuff. Unless of course you decide to stop by Bomber and demo some gear.
  17. I kind of agree with D-sub here. Funny thing about the internet though, tone is very hard to convey. Everyone is concerned about what the cause of the breakage is. Everyone would like to know how to prevent it. If its an adjustment issue, cool. If its a material weakness, cool. What do we have to do to fix it. Apparently Shane has talked to Bomber and got some info from them. What did they have to say? As far as micro adjusting the bindings during the day to account for sizing differences due to temp changes, I don't think that's needed. If the bindings are set up correctly they should stay pretty close. Its not like you lose a 1/2 inch in sole length. The micro adjuster just allows you to get the fit closer than the other macro adjustments do.
  18. I agree. Especially with weekend crowds its tough to let the board run.
  19. That sucks. I hate that drive so much. Its only about 2 hrs for me from Canaan but I still hate to do it. Did you guys try out Silver Creek? It seems to be a bit better for carving. Snowshoe's trails all seem too narrow to me, especially with the crowds they get.
  20. They got about a foot of fresh yesterday. I think they will have 3 trails top to bottom this weekend. Salmander (green), the Drop (double black) and Lightning (Black). Right now only Lightning is open but the others should be online soon. They were making snow like crazy for the last 3 days. Suppposed to rain Friday/Sat so that won't help things. It was getting kind of thin last Saturday but the cold weather and natural has fixed that problem some. The snow was a bit too soft to really carve hard in and Lightning bumped up quick. I'd guess that if the rain holds off it will be pretty good this weekend. Might be crowded though with the holiday though. Did Snowshoe have less than advertised conditions?
  21. i'm using yellows on my Axis 177. I'm about 260 lbs.
  22. Great! Do you mind telling us the probable cause and solution?
  23. I'm in WV and drive down from the Canaan area to Keyser everyday on 93 and 50. Probably the same roads you travel. I switch over to Dunlop Wintersport 3D's on my Subaru Legacy during the winter. Great wet and dry handling. They have been good on the little bit of snow we've had this season. I had Wintersport M2's the last 2 seasons and they were great. M2's and maybe M3's are being replaced by the 3D's. Really happy with them so far. Got them on some 16 inch steelies from www.tirerack.com Where are you in MD? If you are in Eastern/Central MD you probably don't get much snow so I don't think I'd go to a full snow tire. I would very seriously consider some Nokian WR's. They reportedly wear very well and handle great. What car are you putting these tires on?
