  1. This is close. http://www.bmwmotorcycles.com/bikes/bike.jsp?b=hp2
  2. Is there really such a thing as a "killer deal" on a be last? I haven't ridden either one of those, but I will say a dual sport is the way to go. I just bought an 08 KLR and I love that thing. Its so great to be able to just jump off the pavement and hit any dirt road of trail you feel like. I had an SV650 before that which is a great bike in its own right, the KLR is just so much more versatile. Of your two choices I'd give some thought to how you plan on riding. More road to get to the dirt, longer trips, DRZ, bigger tank and a physically bigger bike. More playing in the dirt, short pavement hops, KLX because of the lighter weight and smaller tank. Its a tough choice for sure. I'd like to have a KLX to go with my KLR if you are buying though. if money wasn't an issue, then I'd say KTM 530 EXC-R.... a buddy just got one and its awesome.
  3. Same here, got my 06 today. Board was as described and in good overall shape. Thanks Adam.
  4. Yeah, you can tell a difference in the ride when it gets warm. Our temps can be anywhere from -10 to 60. Thats a pretty wide range for that part to operate in. When its really warm it tough to decide whether its your equipment or the snow thats more sloppy. :)
  5. Yeah I think that's what I'm going to try. Does seem that most people who have this issue are big guys. I wonder though if temperature has much to do with it. I supposes warmer temps would allow for softer materials and easier tearing, but would colder temps not make them stiffer and less able to stretch under load? The average temp in Feb this year in my area was about 26 degrees, Vail Pass was about 15 degrees and Castle Rock was 32 for the same period. Our low was about -3.5, -8 for Vail Pass and 3 for Castle Rock. I guess those temp differences could alter the durability of the material. At any rate, I don't think the cut e-rings are really much of a problem, they seem to function fine. Like most things, they just have a limited lifespan when big guys are involved. Now that I think about it, I do agree that they may be tearing as a result of their limited range of motion. I can't remember for sure but I don't believe its a clean cut, its more of a jagged edge which would indicate that its not being pinched by the cant plate against the board.
  6. Wonder if radiusing the bottom edges would be a hard thing to add to the machining process. Or if it would even prevent the tearing. Wait, maybe we've dicovered an inside plot to increase e-ring sales! ;)
  7. Yeah I got about 10 days on the last set before they cut. I may just go ahead and try out the purple ones. Bola, its not that I'm cheap, although If I replaced them when they tore, which probably isn't necessary at all, I'd be spending $90 to $120 a season on e-rings. Personally I'd rather spend that money elsewhere. I was thinking that I might be able to go to a stiffer e-ring and get better durability and still get acceptable ride characteristics. At my height and weight I should still be able to get a fair amount of flex out of the purple e-rings.
  8. Not the case with mine but possible I suppose. I just swap the top plate since I have a 2nd board kit mounted on my other board. I only loosen the cant plate bolts at the end of the season when I put them away for the summer. My current set was new this December and haven't been removed.
  9. yep, the solid yellow ones are the only ones I've ever used. Not sure about the older translucent ones.
  10. That's why I'm not sure I need to change them. The binding doesn't seem to be bottoming out on the board. I didn't see any top sheet damage anyway. But I'm guessing that they aren't supposed to be cut and that the cuts could eventually allow the deck or binding itself to be damaged since it increases the range the cant plate can travel. Only one weekend left for me anyway so I guess I have a while to decide.
  11. I was swapping my bindings between boards the other day and noticed that my yellow e-rings are cut in several places by the cant plate. Mostly where the tabs stick up through the cant. Because of this I'm thinking maybe I should change to the purple or red e-rings. At the same time, I'd really prefer not to give up the flex that the yellows afford and I'm not sure that the stiffer ones wouldn't cut too. Maybe the cuts aren't a problem at all? I've had 3 sets do the same thing. I'm riding a Donek Axis 177 and a Volkl Renntiger 183 and soon a F2 SL163. I'm 6'3" 255 and fairly aggessive. What say you? Also thought about adding the suspension kit to see if that made a difference. Maybe red or purple e-rings over the yellow suspension kit?
  12. If you are still looking to ride in WV in April, Timberline will be open the first weekend. We should have most of the trails open still assuming no major rain events happen between now and then. Shouldn't be any crowds and Sunday is the Local's Cup race.
  13. I really wanted to be there this year but its just not going to work. My wife and I won't be able to make it. Its a 6 hr drive, I have an EMT class till 10pm on Thursday and we have to patrol on Saturday morning at 7am. Hope everyone who does go has a great time. Catch you all next year!
  14. I rode the Physics for about a season and a half. I'm about 270lbs geared up and they held up pretty well. I was using the toe bails instead of the speed hooks since I had Raichle boots. Never any prerelease problems. The posts kind of self clean when you step in too. I ended up switching to TD2's when I broke the wing on the heel piece and had a hard time finding replacement parts. Mine were used and one boot heel was wearing out around the mounting screws too. If not for lack of parts and want of cool stuff I'd probably still be riding them. I do have some parts left over if you need them.
  15. Like SVR and kirtap, I'm a member of the screw in the 5th metatarsal club. Right one for me. I broke it twice in high school, once playing football and about 6 months later throwing shot put. The first one must not have healed well because you can lay the x-rays over each other and they match up exactly. Had the screw put in in 1993 and its been no problem up to this point. Does make for some cool x-ray and MRI images now though.
  16. Hey Phil, I think I have an older pair of Burton Freestyles in a box at home. I'll check tonight. I think they are M/L or L size.
  17. Welcome to Bomber! Do you ever come up to WV? If you make it to Timberline drop me a line and we'll try to get some runs in. There's usually 3-5 hardbooters there most weekends. I'm there just about every weekend patrolling. Also watch for information on MAC Tracks 08 here on Bomber. Its a pretty cool gathering for the Mid Atlantic area.
  18. Can't blame you, I resisted it because of cost at first. Should have just bit the bullet and bought them after the first Burtons failed. Good decision.
  19. I may have one toe piece at home for these, I had one break as well and stopped using them in favor of the Burton Physics, then TD-2's. I'll look tonight and see what I have left.
  20. I've got that same board, bought it off of Recon last season. The 183's are race stock and are pretty darn stiff. Its a fun ride.
  21. I have some Burton Physics parts left. I'll have to check and see what I have tonight. What parts do you need?
  22. Here's my first bike. Actually its still mine. 2000 Suzuki SV 650. I got it with about 3-4k miles on it, its up over 14k now. No problems, just change the oil/filters/tires and lube the chain every once in a while. I like it a lot but I'd like to replace it with a V-Strom 650 when I can afford to do it.
  23. Nope, if anything the flex may be a tad soft for me at 255 lbs. Honestly I just messed around with different bushing and that's the setup I liked the best. It still carves a nice tight turn but the Stimulators seem to provide a more linear response than the stock bushing shape. The flipped hangers lowered the deck height a little which makes kicking easier for me and made me more comfortable since I'm just learning to skate. One thing about the pink gumballs, I've read a lot about people having problems with them chunking. So far, mine are wearing really well and have had no chunking. I'm not doing any sliding though. They have great grip on my local pavement.
  24. I'm on a Loaded Vanguard Bamboo. Flex 1, RII 180's with flipped trucks, Blue Tracker Stimulators top and bottom with flat washers, Pink Gumballs and Biltins. Its my first skateboard of any kind and it is fun as hell.
