Dave, I don't find it to be super stiff. I think its pretty friendly for a SL board. It was easier to ride than the F2 SL 163 that I had before. Its a little wider too which worked better for my big feet. ________ NaughtyClarice live

What size boots do they wear? My ski patrol has a bunch of used kids soft boots from a ski swap. I could probably grab you a couple pairs. Good luck with the events to come. I suspect there are still some very frustrating and painful times ahead of you. Try to stay positive and take the high road. Being able to look yourself in the mirror and know that you did the right thing goes a long way. That's the truth, If you can't be happy with yourself you will have a hard time being happy in any relationship. I was with my first wife for 13 years, 9 of that we were married. I tried like hell to keep the marriage together at the end but it was too little too late. She wanted a divorce and no matter how much I cared or loved her, she had made up her mind and moved on. It really tore me up and I didn't think things would ever be right again. I spent the summer getting to know myself again, reconnecting with real friends, doing what I wanted. Everyone noticed the difference. I got tons of comments on how much happier I seemed. People who I've known for years welcomed the "old" me back. Everything happens for a reason. In the fall of that year I really got to know a person who I knew for several years but always just had a casual friendly relationship with. We were married this past June and I can tell you that its a totally different and more satisfing relationship than I've ever had. What I'm getting at it is, yes this sucks now, but it can be better. I've been patrolling on a Donek Axis (Axxess) 177 for about 4 seasons now. Its a stock board and I find it to be very versitile on our little 1000' vert hill. Carves well but will skid a turn easily when needed, floats in pow, good in crud, goes switch without burying the tail. Its a little tricky in tight trees and moguls (randomly sized, icy bumps formed mostly by out of control boy scouts) but some of that is lack of skill on my part. I don't hesitate taking it anywhere. I have a GS and SL board as well but 90% of my time is on the Axis. I'll replace it with a custom metal Axxess in the next year or two. ________ Zoloft settlement news

My sister and brother in law are both consulting geologists in southern WV with 2 masters in geology and a masters in mining engineering between them. We were having a discussion about mountain top removal practices the other day that was quite interesting. Its more complicated than most can imagine. My sister has hiked both the AT and PCT, both are truely in love with the mountains. You can see the struggle in their heads when they talk about MTR. They have been in the homes of the people who live in these areas, they have talked to the poorest of the poor and the wealthiest mine owners. They see the dilemma of balancing environmental degradation, job loss, money moving outside the state, national energy costs up close and personal every day. According to them, the coal seams that are being mined by MTR are NOT mineable by "traditional" underground mining. The seams are too short and in a lot of cases not in suitable surrounding material to support deep mines. That being said the geographic area where MTR is a viable extraction method is fairly limited. I can't even pretend to understand all of the variables involved. The group of us talked for nearly two hours and it was one of the most interesting and frank discussions I've heard on the subject. Lifts start spinning at Timberline in WV around 7:15 for me (patrol). Public starts loading at 8 am during the regular season and 9 am during early/late season. 9:30 close for night skiing, 4:30 pm otherwise. Honestly I prefer the 9 am opening.
