  1. Neil is 100% right here. A thief is not going to risk getting caught by blatantly picking a lock in the open when he can walk to up a board and grab it like it's his own. It's entirely counterintuitive to make yourself obvious while trying to steal something.
  2. I was watching TV today, and a mountain dew commercial came on. Saw something that looked familiar... what appears to be a modified TD3! I hope I'm not the only one who sees this? http://www.ispot.tv/ad/793D/mountain-dew-snowboarding
  3. Luke, I don't know if you're still looking for a board, but I have one that would be perfect for you. Donek REV 170, built for 130lbs in February 2014, 20cm waist. Drop me an email at drew dot Ellison1 @gmail dot com
  4. 54 days for me this year. My home hill was only open for 65. 43 at Hidden Valley(St. Louis), 4 at Sunburst(WI) and 7 at Snowmass. Total of 1,195 runs this year, the most in one day was SEVENTY SEVEN(77). 375,000ft of vertical, 436.7 miles of distance.
  5. I dunno about you guys, but I NEVER put my board in a gondola rack. One windy day in Snowmass, riding up the gondola, I almost watched 2 Donek Revs, an SG, and a Donek bx board fall 60 feet off the lift. Haven't left it outside since.
  6. I'm looking to sell my Donek REV 170, made for me in February of 2014. Carbonium texture topsheet, built for 130lbs. 20cm waist, 11-16.4m sidecut. Base ground once, edges are 85% left. 30-35 days on it(2/3 of those are ~2 hours). Looking for $700. Cost $1200 new. Please email me at drew dot ellison 1 at gmail.com for pictures.
  7. Riding my rock board on a pow-ish day in St. Louis. I Slide up to a liftie I know well, and he goes: "You have ANOTHER one??" In the lift corral at snowmass, and a female skier comes up behind me. (In a stern tone) "Hey, I saw what you were doing." Me: "Um, ok?" Her: "It was awesome!" That one definitely put a smile on my face Also on the lift at snowmass, with an instructor and 3 of his 10ish year-old jibbers. All the usually questions, and the instructor brings up ses(well, not exactly) Inst: "yeah, there's always some big even in January and those guys RIP." Me: "are you thinking of ses?" inst: "No I don't think so" me: "Are you sure?" inst: (random snowboard babble) me: "It's ses." inst: "noooo...."
  8. I was Discussing crashes with some teammates this week, and a scenario came up(as per the picture). Both skiers/riders going down hill at approximately the same speed, parallel to each other. Red skier/rider is turning, and collides with blue skier/rider. Who is at fault for the crash, or is it mutual? Pardon my paint skills.
  9. hv was a golf club in the summer until 2009. Not many people want to play 18 holes that are all uphill par 3s There's always been chatter about people wanting to mtn bike during the summer, but apparently it isn't cost effective, and the lodge has no ac.
  10. If pp is anything like hv, they won't open next weekend, regardless of temps. hv started pulling seats off of the lifts that weren't running at 11am Sunday. Grooming really improved here when the temps stayed consistently cold through February.
  11. No such thing as too high. I run TD3 SI SW on a vist, and love being ~4 inches off the board.
  12. Does anybody know when the nationals invitation cycle starts? I can't find anything about it on the website. Who all is planning on going this year?
  13. Excellent, I retract my earlier statements. Thanks for clearing it up Sean
  14. Seller has way too little knowledge about a setup like that to have acquired it in a legal way, IMHO. Also, posted the day the account was created. Any East Coast brethren missing a board?
  15. Fairly similar guy here, 17, 140lbs, 5'11". I'm riding a 163 Donek Rev for SL, and a 170 Rev for GS. I don't know if the guysat YYZ talked to you about Pilot vs Rev, but the Pilot is a board for absolute beginner hardbooters. I had been on an old Rossi Pro Ride(older than I am) for maybe 15 days and Sean suggested getting the Rev, not the Pilot. The good thing about Donek boards is that Sean makes them to your specific weight, Your 130lb son could get a 185 made for him if he wanted. Probably 158 or 163 for SL, and 170 or 175 for GS, depending on what your son likes, and how long he plan's to use these boards. Yes, you'll need a board for SL and another for GS. The sidecuts and gate offset are too different. DO NOT try to learn a new set up 5 days before nationals, especially an alpine deck. Tried that, broke a leg. Not saying you'll get hurt, but you'll probably wind up being slower on the alpine deck than the softboot deck. TL;DR Get a used alpine board, transfer to a Rev or similar later. Need two boards for SL and GS. Don't try new setup at nationals.
  16. Peak isn't a rinkydinky company by any standards. Tim has grown it incredibly well, just doesn't care about customer satisfaction quite enough. I think he's realized this in the past couple years, which is why with the recent acquisitions he's basically bought them and said "keep up the good work". Hidden Valley is freakin cheap. One of our quads has a non-working emergency brake, and they won't every run the two triples(they run parallel) at the same time because the cables are both 30+ years old, and they don't want to replace them so they minimize run time. Not to mention usually not making any snow after January. As of (October I think) Peak Resorts is a publically traded company. Check out their stock price (SKIS). It dropped off heavily in December when they were a month late opening.
  17. I ride at hidden valley (St. Louis) also owned by peak. Grooming is 50/50 here. Half of the time it's great, other half it's like the picture you posted. I know of the 3 groomers here, only 1 skis/rides. Good news is that he carves, so he does a great job. Also, regardless of experience, grooming will be Shit if it's 60* like we've had recently. Snow just isn't firm enough to support a 10+ ton machine. Being at Tim and Missy's first and home hill, and the ski team coaches being very close family friends with them, I have a tad bit of insider info s far as money/opening time go with peak resorts. Missy is a raging bitch, no other way to put it. Not uncommon for her to fire a person a day(50+ already fired at hv this season). She doesn't know how to run a ski resort, the only reason she is still gm of hv is because Tim(her husband) is ceo of peak. They complain about not making enough money, but don't open when they have the chance, and like you said, close by mid march regardless of snow conditions. They also don't support any competitions(usasa, ussa, wijara). The only reason they run nastar is because of the ski team coaches. If it says anything about them, it took 8 months to reassemble(not build, but reassemble) a 200' double chair this summer. They are a publicly traded company, and own 13? resorts now, it's time to give a shit about customer satisfaction.
  18. I'm looking for the width between the forks the buckle, and the thickness of the bar that goes into the clasp. My boot(Blax toni's) broke yesterday and I need a replacement buckle before races on the 20th/21st/22nd. Assuming the specs are good, I'm going to order one from upz.
  19. @darko714, I am going for more accurate medal handicaps for snowboarders. ATM, We are given the same handicap a skier is, then have it dropped 10 points to see what medal we got. Regardless of age or raw time, our handicaps are dropped 10 points(too little in some cases, too much in others). Also, just something to do when I'm bored. @sunsurfer, I'll take that into account.
  20. Obviously staged, but both of those videos are absolutely astounding.
  21. I am in the process of creating a snowboard handicap chart from results from last year, and I could use some help with data entry. I am using Male results from the 2013-2014 year. If you would like to help please do as follows: Go to the nastar.com rankings page, and enter the fields ( 2013-2014 year, snowboard, age group, and resort). Please go through every age group, and enter each handicap under the correct column here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/158LUYMaBPtAlF4Bb4o8ad7KmVJB4RhAsleJvd0FsWJw/edit?usp-sharing. I have finished the following resorts: Afton Alps Alpine Valley Ski area Angel Fire resort Aspen Highlands Aspen Mountain Bear Creek Mountain resort Bear Valley Resort Beech Mountain Resort Big Powderhorn Resort Bittersweet Ski area Blue Knob All season resort Bogus Basin Ski resort Boyne highlands Boyne Mountain Resort Bretton Woods Brian Head Resort Bristol Mountain Bryce Resort Buck Hill Ski area Caberfae Peaks Canaan Valley Resort Cannon Mountain Cascade Cataloochee Chestnut Mountain Copper Mountain Cranmore Mountain Resort Please post any resorts/age groups you complete! Thanks in advance
  22. Ryanh, any chance you'll be at sunburst this Friday/Saturday? Coming up from St. Louis for usasa races.
  23. For my SI's(TD3 sw si), I put the toe of my boot into the front bail, then tilt the heel in. The pins should fit perfectly when you do this. If they do not, then you need to readjust your bindings. I have tiny bit of side slop, but it's minute.
  24. I need to make room(an cash) for a new board for this winter, and the rossi the bottom rung of my quiver currently, so she goes! Rossi Pro ride 159. side cut is 9m, waist is 21 cm. A couple small dings on the nose, a ding on the left side, mid-way down. All cosmetic. It has a fresh wax and edge tune on it. A great older board to ride, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I've put about 15 days(2-4 hour 'days') in the past 3 years. I'll upload pictures here if anyone is interested. Please email me or post any questions or interest you have. drew.ellison1 at gmail dot com
