  1. We're leaving tomorrow afternoon, so it looks like Saturday will be my day. Thanks for the info, I hope to put it to good use!
  2. I won't be there on Monday, but I appreciate the invite. We're only staying 'til Sunday evening. Hopefully I can get an early start and go most of the day. I'm really looking forward to getting some time in somewhere other than my local mountain, the conditions up there are pretty bad right now....
  3. and the fact that he's dragging his "back" hand is the significant part of that whole ride. When you watch him ride that wave in the movie you get a real sense of the immense forces he's combating to even stay ahead of the wave itself and not get suck into the whole thing while making it all look as though it was an every day occurance. Laird is unbelievable, literally the co-father of "tow-in" surfing. It's guys like him that make a sport advance to levels previously unthought of by the masses. Riding Giants is a great flick, Step into Liquid is another great one too. The tree hugging-dirt munching sun child in me believes our surfing bretheren have something in common with us and us with them, it was confirmed when I learned how to surf 3 years ago in Maui. Although I'm officially only a "ankle biter" rider, I still love the feeling of riding a wave. Some of the members here that are obviously experienced surfers must feel some kind of connection too unless I'm speaking out of turn. I recently set up an "all mountain" board for myself and once again experienced the "surfy" style of riding that got me into all this in the first place, so I too see or consider parts of the mountain as a "wave". Sometimes you gotta look backwards in order to figure out how to move forwards......
  4. anybody??? Someone has to have been there recently, yes?
  5. Looks like the wife and I are going to South Lake Tahoe with friends for the weekend of the 16th and I might be able to squeeze in a day at Heavenly (our accommodations are attached to it somehow). Anyone have any good suggestions about where to ride/what runs are best? I'll be alone as my lovely bride will be at the spa all day if all goes as planned and I should be able to ride the better part of the day. I haven't been there in years, the last time I went I was still skiing...... :o Thanks!
  6. That was weird.....drunken boner poppin' sharks.....
  7. woulda been nice to have someone tell me they moved it!!! Thanks to all those that replied, I think we got it figured out
  8. The Swoard maybe, but I'm thinking that anything else is risking it. I'm 185-190lbs "sans" gear and think the only reason I haven't had a malfunction yet is because the board is absorbing the brunt of my inputs with it's relatively soft flex. I wouldn't dream of mounting it on a longer stiffer board or one with the Hangl system....just my 2 cents
  9. He's ridden Burtons for several seasons and now has Cateks and has seen my Comps on the board pictured. As for the Prowler, it turned out pretty good. The guys did a good job on the base and epoxied the tail so it wouldn't de-lam, not the prettiest job, but it's functional. I've been having alot of fun on it and it really confuses the hell outta people. I've seen numerous folks look at it, look at my hardboots, look back at the board, start to open their mouth than just stop and stare some more.... :D I wouldn't say I'm full-out charging on it, but Ralann was with me when I rode it for the 2nd time and I was able to get some decent turns laid over on it
  10. What D-Sub said...Many Happy returns C5!!!
  11. they lost a Renntiger for me and heavily scratched another, but the buyer wants it to go "Postal". I just don't want it to cost him an arm & a leg either....
  12. I need to find out how much it will cost to ship a board to Toronto by U.S.P.S. I know there's also customs and other fees involved. Can any of you fine folks help me out with some info? Thanks in advance for your help, I appreciate it!
  13. I just used this method on a 12 year old on Saturday and he was making runs down the "easy blues" by lunch time. It's all about the small inputs so they still feel in control. Glad to hear you're making progress, keep up the good work!
  14. I'm riding 45F/40R. I also noticed my markings only go to 60*....I don't even ride my alpine boards that steep on the angles so I can't really say wether they're good that steep or not???
  15. I noticed the same thing, but can't really find where the "slack" is coming from. I'm guessing it has something to do with the boot/binding interface when not "loaded" or weighted??? Just a guess....
  16. I currently use them on my "all mountain board" and they seem to do pretty good. I'm 185-190lbs without gear and I haven't noticed anything funky yet....
  17. The Madd has really taken over the quiver and the Virus is next up after that. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this board, but it just sits and I think someone would really enjoy this board more than me, so it's time to let it go. Tahoe, I'm gonna pretend you didn't even offer that...... :p
  18. unless you're positive about which foot forward they want to ride. When in doubt duck footed is probably best so that way if they change their mind about what foot forward they want to ride it's easier to transition. I'm assuming were talking about free-ride here and not alpine.....
  19. I set my sons up when he started out about the same, now he rides 50F/45R, but it was a slow progression. My oldest daughter runs something along the 15/30 as well, but we're cranking them up this weekend because she's riding much better/faster this year and wants to "carve" more. She hasn't gone so far as to say she wants to try alpine, you know teenagers, it's gotta be "her idea" not mine....I just keep telling her "resistance is futile".... Rob's being to kind, Zach's doing good, but we gotta ways to go yet. I'm hoping to get some footage so I can post it here for people to see....maybe this weekend???
  20. but I've also been coaching them in various sports since they were little. I started coaching kids in sports prior to any of mine being old enough to play, so maybe some of my success comes from being able to work with kids in general. My method was to start them in the living room getting familiar with the equipment and "practicing" getting in and out of their gear and standing in the proper positions. This also helped me determine which "foot" they were or prefered. When we hit the slopes I started them on the bunny hill and used the "catamaran" method, me paralleling them on my board our arms holding onto one another, face to face. Once they seemed to get the hang of that I than moved onto the basic glide and "pull" your toes up or "push" your toes down to get them to initiate turns. These were minimal movements, or what I liked to call "wiggles", nothing real drastic so they could see the results of their actions in small amounts when they "pulled" their toes up or "pushed" their toes down. This lead to a variation of falling leaf and I definitely made sure they could stop both heelside or toeside before progressing to the actual mountain. I started my son at 6 and my daughters at 10 and 14 after they decided they didn't want to ski with mom anymore I started my son on alpine gear around age 9 and he's doing really well (he'll be 12 in March) so I believe it is possible to teach your own kids, you just have to have patience and a good knowledge of your childs limits, both physically and mentally.
  21. Chris is a good guy, I was looking at that board, but my bonus this year didn't quite measure up to expectations, so I had to pass. Snow's getting pretty thin out here, if we don't get some weather soon they're going to have to start closing some of the runs due to lack of coverage! I rode the Virus this Sunday and got comfortable after 2-3 runs, but it still takes me awhile to adjust to it's charateristics as opposed to my other boards. Hey....I just hi-jacked my own thread.... Here's hoping for snow for both of us, so we can "spread" the infection....VIRUS!!!
  22. The Conshox is the carbon fiber piece that the bindings are sitting on. Ask any Bomber member here about the F2's with the Conshox and you'll quickly see this is the ultimate addition to this board. If I can find a buyer for the Conshox (for what I'm asking....) I'll gladly sell you the board & bindings. Contact me off site and we'll discuss the shipping details, Canada has not been favorable for me to ship to....but maybe we can work something out, eaglez: that's a "Carbon Stealth", not a Gladiator, but they're very similar in dimension and design. It's a 172cm and has a 17.2 waist! It takes more speed than my other boards to really carve decent turns on, and with that skinny waist I gotta re-program my brain when I ride it.... It won't be going up for sale.....this season :p
