  1. [quote name=GeoffV;311886. Seriously we've been out west' date=' all you need to do is lean over, sharp edges not needed carving in butter does not require that, most of you guys would sh$t your pants on the stuff we ride on. Just ask Fin, Sean and Joerg what they think of East Coast conditions and narrow trails. It's a hole different ball game.[/quote] Geoff with all due respect, I wouldn't lump all us West Coast guys together. I kinda took offense, albeit unwarranted due to my lack of skill, in regards to your comment about us "West Coast guys" not being able to handle your East Coast terrain. Shasta probably can't hold a candle to some of the gnarly, narrow, icy stuff you guys have to ride back east, but it can be difficult and challenging. I personally know of 3 riders here (Ralann, Trikerdad, & Sandman) that could probably hang pretty tough no matter the conditions or geographical location. I only make mention of it because you seemed to not originally know Snowman was joking, and the 3 riders I mentioned above are definitely skilled individuals who deserve more props than being lumped in with your perception of us "West Coasters". I understand you're a very good rider and could smoke me any day of the week, but I respect the guys I mentioned and feel they could stand toe to toe with anybody, anywhere.

    virus

Have a Virus Stealth 172 I might want to give up......Let me know, Paul
  3. Every time I see that black and red Tinkler, I get all fluttery inside......Man that is a SWEET looking board. Gotta chip in my 2 cents here on the Burners as well. Spent the last two trips to the hill on my 178 and it just keeps reminding me why I love that board. Rode for 6 hours straight last Saturday and it was one of the best days out of 20+ I've had this season. Good day = Fresh groom with me on the Burner with Stevie Ray Vaughns "Pride & Joy" coming through the earbuds! I'd be up for one of those boards your describing Bryan, put my name on the list
  4. I should have read your post a little more thoroughly. "Mounting" would have been my first clue.....:o I'll take a look at what I've got laying around, but not sure if I have any not in use. I'll let you know, Paul
  5. there have been several threads over those long snowless summers about bikes and I can't help but chime in especially when twins or Hawks are brought up. Guess I'll have to live vicariously through Kent until the kids are outta college!
  6. I've been riding the Burner everytime I go and I've ran into alot of people who ask questions about it. The cut between the tails does have a /\ to it although its about 10 inches long. Easy to see how someone who's never seen anything like it before would be a bit puzzled as to how to describe it. Than again, I could be wrong...... one of my favorite pictures by the way....
  7. I've got some smaller length ones rattling around somewhere. I use alot of heel lift and can't always use the shorter screws. BTW I've looked recently for someone who sells screws for my F2's and to no avail, you just can't seem to buy these here in the states and shipping from over seas is ridiculous. Let me know....
  8. Let the flames begin but...... I've ridden everything from Ninjas, CBR's, GSXR's and my own hand built Hawk 650GT (see pic) both on the street and track, but the most fun I've had lately is on my buddy's 1200cc Sportster. I haven't owned a bike for about 10 years now, but usually go test ride new models every year to keep in touch with progress. Todays bikes are laser sharp and wicked quick, and I was really impressed with the Husky Supermotard SM610 I rode recently, but with 3 kids who need college funds and a job that requires my daily attendance, I've shyed away from getting a new sportbike knowing all to well my left hand and a 45 year old mind in a 18 year old mindset would be a cocktail for trouble. One of my old riding buddies shows up last summer on a 883 Sportster he bought while on duty in Iraq. Oh course being a sport bike guy I give him all kinds of crap....then I take the hog for a ride thinking "ya right". After a couple laps around some of my old roads, you couldn't knock the smile of my face with a sledgehammer! Now mind you it's not an elbow dragging, tire sliding, carving machine but I was impressed with how well it handled, even when I was grinding the pegs through some tight switchbacks. Knowing he too wouldn't ride anything that couldn't handle it's way out of a paper bag, I asked what mod's he had done to it. Stiffer springs, premium tires, drag bars, and forward controls all contributed to the better than stock handling and ground clearance of your typical Sportster. This fall we put it in the shop and had a big bore kit installed in it taking it out to 1200cc's and now not only does it ride well, but it friggin' rips too! So building off your "edgy cruiser" prompt, I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Oh and cost wise, you can pick up used 883-1200's for $4000-$5000, usually with very low miles (3000 or less) and depending on the mods you do, you can spend between $1000-$3000. I'm personally cooking up a project for taking the 1200XR model (honoring Harleys flat track dominance) and building a blacked out street cruiser. The 1200XR has dual front disk brakes and better springs and forks stock. Anyways, good luck and I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you decide! Paul
  9. I'm supposed to pick up a Harley in Eureka on Sunday, but if that falls through I'll probably head to the mountain. I usually make it up around 9:30 or so and may have one or more of my kids in tow. I'll be in black from head to toe and riding either my Virus Stealth or Black & Red Burner. I'm about 6'5" in my boots so I'm kinda easy to spot.... Keep an eye out for other locals Ralann and Trikerdad too....
  10. I'll most likely be there on Saturday. If my plans fall through for Sunday I might make it up, maybe we can make a few runs together?
  11. I liken the angle argument to the same argument my racing friends and I used to have when I raced street bikes. The guys with motocross backgrounds were always more comfortable "sliding" their bikes in turns as opposed to us guys who strictly learned how to ride on pavement with no dirt background. The dirt guys were use to the bike getting "loose" underneath them so when their bikes started to slide they didn't go to pucker factor zulu like those with no dirt training. I always found it was the one element of my riding that kept me from feeling complete as a rider and something I worked on constantly. I view alpine much the same way. Those with freeride backgrounds seem to be more at ease with control issues wether angle or terrain induced as to those who didn't come from a freeride background. Mind you this is IMHO....no flames here please! When people ask me on the lift about my gear I always say "a freeride board is like a motocross bike, my board is like a street bike" they seem to understand this right away and usually grin from ear to ear as the lightbulb goes off over their head. I ride 66/62 right now (weird I know) up from 65/60 due to a lack of feeling in my heelsides and more comfort facing the nose of the board. I also tend to ride "gunslinger" and find steeper angles accommodate this much easier. Just my 2 cents...
  12. Lots of world travelers here. Do you think that's indicative of our sport? I know we have alot of european and Canadian folks here, but man, some of those lists are unbelievable..... 4 is my number BTW Kirkwood (where I learned to snowboard 8 years ago) Bachelor Ashland and last but not least my home mountain Mt. Shasta! BTW JT that's gotta be one of the most unusual avatars I've seen here.....
  13. Bill I didn't see it happen, I was down slope from him. Sorry to hear about your injuries, you never cease to amaze me with your resiliance. He ended up with a good junk of metal (11inches I think) in his leg. Dr. Schwartz did the procedure in Redding, he's a friend of Dan's and luckily was available. He's my buddy so staying with him wasn't anything more than a friend supporting a friend. But man is his boss gonna be pissed....;)
  14. here's my e-mail, shoot me the list please. I'm gonna try to make it..... arcangelalpinegear@yahoo.com
  15. I'll pass along your well wishes to Dan, I'm sure he'll appreciate it. He was a total trooper, even had a sense of humor about the whole thing. We were having a blast, been waiting 3 seasons to finally have a day riding together and it ended on a bad note. Life....go figure.
  16. I usually only listen to music when I'm alone. Dan and I were having to much fun to bother with tunes.....until....:(
  17. I'll get ahold of you on Monday. Dan should be home and coherant by then and I'll get the details from him about lodging and tickets and see what I'm dealing with. If something comes up sooner go for it. Paul
  18. my buddy is going to have to pass on OES and I'm going to try to help him out by picking up some of his reservations (room and lift tickets) to lessen his losses. What's the best way to reach you?
  19. we were out riding steeps today and not fairing to well, but I do ride centered and am mostly a "nose" rider. This could be an interesting set-up change, I'll have to try it out when I get back up there.
  20. I ride with music as well but don't have a bluetooth set-up. I like the wireless idea though, it would make things nice and "clean". I'm with tex1230 here, to each his own. If you guys want to start a thread about the dangers of using headphones or bitching about headphone users, start your own thread but leave Bryanz alone, the guy was just trying to put some useful info out in the community. Relax....
  21. Dan and I went today. We were on the Marmot side at about 9:45 and made some warm-up runs. Dan wanted to venture over to Coyote so we headed over there and were working on some stuff when about three runs in "wham" Dan breaks his lower leg. I just got back from the hospital about an hour ago and all went well, but they had to operate on it. Spiral fracture 11 inches long down his Tibia.....Don't think Dan will be up again soon....
  22. I was hoping to get some help/hints on bettering my riding. I was at Bachelor at the end of January and wasn't to happy with my performance. I did run into Greg though as he was leaving. He actually gave me my first "lesson" in carving when I was there 6 years ago. He didn't know me from adam, but took the time to stop his riding and show me some techniques. He was riding a 197 Burner at the time...made quite an impression on me. Oh well, there's bound to be someone in my ability range to ride with. Hope to see you all there.
  23. Now I pack 2 pairs....just in case
