  1. oh yeah. easy to do this on a big scr board especially if coming from a shorter board. Just be patient and let the carve build more before you really lean in.
  2. This happens to me on rare occasion if I'm not paying close attention, if it's what I think you're talking about. I think it happens when you "fall" slightly past the balance point of the carve. You're then caught in a slow fall that is almost offset by the g-force of the carve, but not quite. No way out of it as far as I can tell, just try to avoid it.
  3. http://www.bomberonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/The-Toeside-Problem.pdf I do like to bring 2 of my 5 boards to the hill.
  4. I guess you missed all the sous-vide/boiling water, and rice discussions? No need for either. And the rice trick is really sub-optimal - you need to heat the whole liner, not just the inside. John E, sounds like you simply got your liners too hot maybe. Oven preheated to 225F then turned off right before cooking is all you need.
  5. I have the stiffer gray tongues and the newer wire style "flex bar" buckles and I don't have this issue. Although I don't ride in walk mode. I also tightened the spring on the back of the cuff.
  6. So uhh... don't ride in walk mode?
  7. I didn't have conditions to really lay it over, but boot drag did not seem like it would be an issue!
  8. The preheated oven turned off method cooks the whole liner at once, in 15-20 minutes, not counting preheating time. Not sure what's so difficult about this that people would go looking for other science projects to heat them... Molding the liner to the boot as well as your foot is very important, IMO. I've cooked liners at home many many times, it's really not hard, and liners can be re-molded at least half a dozen times. The first time I got moldable liners I did take them to a shop. Guy didn't know what he was doing, despite telling me he does them all the time, and used heaters akin to hair dryers to heat just the inside, inadequately. This prompted me to learn how to DIY at home. DIY.
  9. Unreal that any carver would do this to another. Good luck... Zone, too soon.
  10. 50 and raining here at the moment, along with the rest of New England.
  11. The true Zen of carving is when you feel like you are doing nothing and your board is doing it all. No rotation, no reaching, no diving, just balance. If you achieve that via EC or not, then good. In any case, let the ground come to you. I love that EC draws people to the sport, but it's an expert maneuver that shouldn't be attempted by beginners, and will teach them bad habits if they do.
  12. Trying my brother in law's Donek Sasquatch tomorrow if it doesn't rain too hard. 28cm wide, 170 long, 11m, pretty stiff. With my size 10.5 Burton Driver-X, at 27/12, it still fails my usual visual check for boot overhang. We'll see how it goes.
  13. Got a new outfit from fellow hardbooter Freddy Ansara at FA Design, Canada. Great gear, check them out.
  14. He's 8 years old in that shot? GeoffV is exactly right. Have him really learn to carve his softboot gear first, starting on gentler slopes. Being able to carve the downhill edge and rail C-shaped carves consistently is the test. Gotta run, I'll be back.
  15. Yeah. It's not my set of pics, I just stumbled across it and thought it was funny. #2 is the money shot and they don't even realize it.
  16. Different boots fit different people. I discovered, finally, that my foot looks much more like the inside of a UPZ than a Deeluxe. No more heel lift. This is not uncommon among Deeluxe users. I can see why a lot of racers use UPZ. But they're not *perfect*. Maybe .951s would fit even better, I don't know, but .950s sure are coveted on the world cup. Good examples of Northwave .950s fetch crazy prices on ebay.
  17. Seems to me that the PowerWrap is the original Raichle Thermoflex. Been using some form of liner of this stiffness for over 20 years. Love em. A buddy uses the stock UPZ ("FLO") liner with success but he has more of a race fit. With my "natural fit" M28 boots for my 28.5cm feet, they squirm. They do seem like a quality stock liner though.
  18. I don't think I got heel lift in the stock liner. Just the squirm, and the boots felt softer overall with the stock liner, and not in a good way. I was able to wiggle toes a little in the stock liner.
  19. My foot measures 28.5cm, so I got the UPZ 28s. I had to have one of the boots punched out for 6th toe width. The stock liners would squirm around in the boot slightly, so I replaced with Intuition PowerWrap. I'm happy. I know I couldn't tolerate the PowerWrap+. I'm loving the performance, I get no heel lift at all, which wasn't an issue with the stock liners either, but the new liners improved the overall performance of the boot significantly. I think you'll be just fine.
  20. I promptly forgot DOAS immediately after 8th grade.
