  1. Rob, what on earth does your test have to do with carving an alpine board on groomed snow? To barryj, I think you have stumbled upon a cheap and quick remedy to some deep, deep technique and setup problems. I would advise you to seek professional, private lessons in person and/or ride with an expert carver. Dual heel lift (or dual toe lift) is not advisable. But what do I know.
  2. The course didn't favor carving or hardboots this year like it did last year, so it was not their cup of tea. Bring it next year! I'll be in the 40s age group so unless KB shows up I'm hoping to take it!
  3. LOOK where you want the carve to go. That is ACROSS the hill - NOT down the hill.
  4. Took 3rd for my age group and 7th overall... lamenting the T32 no-show!
  5. Thanks again everyone, I'm glad I could help. I started a new job on Monday March 11 and I need to focus on that for a while. We'll see what happens. Bryan and Corey were easy choices, I'm sure they will do a great job.
  6. So sorry it rained, glad you were determined to enjoy your vacation anyway! Erik definitely has a way of making you think.
  7. "Bomber" style can mean no touching... Or touching...
  8. Thanks guys, it means a lot. It's been my pleasure, I think this website is important. Big thanks and best of luck to the new mods!
  9. Right, it's a single 12m radius. I have Coilers that are 163 and 185 that are VSR, so I wanted to go traditional with my middle child. The Proteus is billed as a metal board with the pop of a non-metal board, and I would agree. However it's considerably stiffer than the 14m board it is replacing, so it can draw a carve out to about the same size. Yet it can be stuffed down narrower trails too. Very fun, very versatile for carving.
  10. Happy Birthday to me! Proteus 175, 20cm waist, all else standard. Great board!! I can vouch for the ad copy on the website, it's a lively metal board. Very fun!
  11. Thought you were coming to the SBS?!
  12. Ehhhhh... I don't think this really qualifies... ya know?
  13. Actually the TD3 interferes with board flex the least of any binding that I would want to rely on, due to the E-ring and floating cant disc design. The center disc is the only metal part rigidly mounted to the board, and its diameter is minimized. Only way to get more board flex than that is to use a binding with a plastic center disc, and I just don't trust those. I think the answer is right in front of you. TD3 Sidewinder. (the e-ring is the same as the regular TD3) Yeah, you can save $190 by going with Ibex, but divide that by the life of the Bombers (10+ years??) and I think that's being penny wise and pound foolish.
  14. Yep, got a Stat 5 right here. Just needs a tune.
  15. Thanks! About 59 front, 56 rear, 51cm stance width, 3 degree toe lift and a little inward cant on the front foot, 3 degree heel lift with outward cant on the back foot.
  16. Not bad, but this is a more adult-minded forum, dedicated to alpine snowboarding in hardboots with race-derived boards.
  17. I and several others will be busy at the Sugarloaf Banked Slalom!
  18. I agree about coaching racing. I certainly wouldn't be able to coach racing, and I would discourage anyone from doing so without qualifications. But as for carving, I haven't seen AA ride or talked with him much, but it seems he is being straightforward about his ability to help someone get into carving.
  19. Has PSIA/AASI resumed certifying people in hardboots for teaching alpine?
